I generally avoid big stouts aged in Cabernet barrels, preferring to go with those aged in bourbon or rye barrels. However, this was a very pleasant surprise.
Smell and taste were: dark fruit, tobacco, leather and chocolate, percolating around the tasty base stout.
Mouthfeel was full and a bit drying on the finish.
A unique and very delicious double-barrel aged big stout. Like drinking a cherry cordial. Highly recommended.

L- dark with a medium to light tan head with some sticky lacing. Not cloudy at all, can see the clarity when held to the light.
S- cherries, figs, coconut, bourbon, roasted malt.
T- figs, vanilla, cherries, toasted coconut, chocolate. Layers of flavor unfold as the beer warms and the spicy bourbon lingers with a cherry cordial like after taste.
M- Chewy, velvety, the sweetness is countered by the spicy bourbon.
O- An amazing beer that evolves as you sip.

Served in a snifter glass from 750ml bottle.

Appearance: Semi thick dark black with medium bubbles to the body creating a darker tan head rising lightly just about a notch below half a finger's length.

Smell: Deep red wine and butterscotch scent which hits the nostrils like a mom's home cooking. Caramel woody aroma which makes the beer hard to put down.

Taste: Sweet whiskey and notes of rioja though granted I know no rioja was used to make this beer. Woody feel is seriously smooth feeling a bit barelywinish.

Mouth: Full body with medium carbonation, very sticky and a little dry but I can live with that.

Overall: Trying to keep this post clean but should've grabbed another and another, very good complex beer which seriously delivers.
If you're ever so lucky don't ever let it go...grab it. Salud!

insane how much red wine comes through such a robust base beer. this is awesome stuff, one of the best i have had from boulevard in a long time. surprised to see its as strong as it is, it doesnt drink hot at all, and while it sure is sturdy and warming, its never particularly alcoholic believe it or not. the aroma on this is incredible, its delicious, rich, heavy, woody red wine, tons of oak, dark berries, blueberry and blackberry and currant, black cherry, sharp tannins, enormous body, and then roasted barley and a coffee note from the grain, the amount of wood and wine on this is about as much as i have seen, especially in a dark beer. it all comes through in the flavor too, this is meaty and heavy in feel, but somehow the complex fruitiness of the cabernet is right there in the front. the oak has a vanilla sweet element to it which balances some of the bitterness of the base stout, and there are hints of almonds and walnuts, dark chocolate, chocolate covered blueberries, and rich red wine for miles. this is complex and awesome, the wine with the huge stout is a great combination, something i am surprised we dont see more of. so much wine and wood here that this is almost a beer/wine hybrid to me, incredibly developed flavors, so smooth and full going down, i cant put it down. i thought this was exquisite, i hope to drink this again some time...

750 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 6/14/17, had 12/23/17.

Pours a dark brown, opaque, with a one inch quickly dissipating head and some soapy lacing. Aromas of malt, oak, bourbon, grapes, figs, dates, toffee, caramel, a little varnish, um, in a good way, some wine. The taste is similar- malt, grapes, oak, bourbon, dates, caramel, red wine, figs, raisins, light vanilla. Smooth, a solid full body, well carbonated.

The Cabernet and bourbon barrels share top billing, everything comes together really well. For me, this one really hits the sweet spot. 4 packs of this would be great...

Misc.: I believe there was a bottled on date and a best by, but I forgot to mark it down

Wife picked this out for me, although my father-in-law paid for it. Was super excited that she went to the trouble of looking at Untappd to see if I had tried it. Bottle description read, “This astonishingly complex Imperial Stout spent almost two years in oak barrels that first aged Groth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon before moving to Kentucky to finish Jefferson’s Reserve straight bourbon whiskey. Cabernet Cask Imperial Stout is resplendently decadent with notes of chocolate, espresso, fig, tobacco, leather...damn!” Looked amazing. Kind of a rushed review.

Poured very dark color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki tan frothy head. Average spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled red wine barrel, plum, oak, leather, bourbon, dark chocolate milk, sweet caramel, toffee and earthy tobacco. Rather boozy on the nose. Had me wanting to try it. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted better than the smell. Got red wine barrel, oaky leather, smooth warm bourbon, plum, dark fruits, sweet caramel, milk chocolate, earthy tobacco and a touch of espresso. (Taste - 4.50)

Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. (Feel - 4.75)

This was incredible. So many nuances with it and very complex. Looking forward to trying it again sometime. (Overall - 4.50)

Easily the best barrel aged stout I've had. Whiskey notes with a dry red wine finish. Backed up by the chocolatey base stout. Nice sweetness and carb to balance out the booziness/wine. Solid.

This is a spectacular beer. Pours almost black - with a slight light brown head - exactly what I expect a great imperial stout to look like. The smell was great! A slight odor of berries, chocolate and coffee. Slightly sweet - enabling us to anticipate the amaizing flavor. Taste was over the top! The Chocolate, coffee and fruit flavors were perfectly balanced - a slight bitterness at the back end - reminiscent of a really fine dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is solid, weighty and smooth. Had this beer on a fall afternoon with a great cigar - great beer!

Batch #061417. Best by 6/14/20.

Dark pour with a reddish hue around the edges. Effervescent bubbles rise to the top and huddle in the outer ring. Smooth, silky feel coats the palate but has a dry finish with some warming heat. Some chocolate, coffee and red wine rise from the glass. Flavors of fine red wine, freshly pressed espresso, and bittersweet cocoa highlight the taste and the aroma matches. The complex flavors of this beast are amazing... Overall, one of the best brews I have ever indulged upon. Cheers!
