Our fall seasonal beer, Bob’s ’47 Oktoberfest is a medium-bodied, dark amber brew with a malty flavor and well-balanced hop character. With this Munich-style lager we salute our friend Bob Werkowitch, Master Brewer and graduate of the U.S. Brewer’s Academy, 1947.

Clear copper color. Great bubbling beneath a a two finger head after the pour and a thinnish film for a few sips.

Clean and crisp, thanks to the hops, but very malt forward aroma. Toasted malts exude bread crust and biscuit crackers.

Starts with very malty toasted mlats biscuits, and bread. The middle is weird, clean, bitterness that has a metallic twinge. The finish that lingers is metallic then malty.

Smooth mouthfeel through and through, but there is some odd bitterness that pops up here an there that is a little off-putting.

Pours amber in the middle of the color spectrum for a Märzen. Smell is dominated by malt. So, unfortunately, is the taste. I get precious little of the hoppy bitterness others note. I detect some in the aftertaste, but is it at a level akin to an American Adjunct Lager.

This beer is too one-dimensional for my taste. I had not bought any in at least 15 years. Now I remember why. Boulevard makes some of my favorite beers, but this is a miss. Where’s that Bully Porter?….

It's an Octoberfest and fits the mold. Smells is very light to non-existent. Feel is solid but the taste is very light. Makes it sessionable.

12oz bottle pours a relatively bright orange color leaning to brown with a small cap of light tan-colored head that recedes down to a thin ring around the edge. Smells of caramel and toasty malts. Flavor has notes of toasted malts and caramel and isn't very complex. Slight sweetness and a grassy bitterness that is markedly more than you would expect in a Märzen. Light and honestly overly thin-bodied with a mild carbonation mouthfeel. The hop bitterness is overbearing and very present in the aftertaste alongside an astringency that feels out of place.

This was a pretty mediocre beer. It feels like a slightly experimental version (which I often appreciate!) of the Märzen style that just ends up not working well at all. The flavor is too one-dimensional, the bitterness excessive, and the body too thin. Will avoid in the future.

12oz bottle poured into a pint

A- pours a deep clear amber color with a two-finger foamy off-white head that has great retention

S- smells of caramel, bread crusts, brown sugar, raisin, light peppery & floral hops

T- sweet and malty up front with notes of caramel and doughy bread. Mid-palate gives notes of floral hops, as well as some raisiny undertones. The finish gives toasted bread and more caramel

M- medium body with moderate carbonation lead to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a slightly creamy, yet crisp finish

O- a full flavored, yet well balanced marzen

L - Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Glass. Good golden light brown clear color. Huge tan 3-finger head from an aggressive pour. Head is billowy and reduces very slowly to finish the pour. Fluffy two finger head remained for a few minutes before I went for a drink. Moderate lacing once the head finally goes down and allows for drinking.

S - Sweet and malty up front scents. A light bread or cracker. Some metallic smells.

T - Taste follows scents but fuller and more balanced together on first taste. The bready maltiness is there, but a little smokier or toastier. A mild sour/bitter on the finish. The hoppy sour/bitterness is more present as you drink. Agitation balances the flavors back a little bit but I prefer the initial tastes over the later half. That may be due to temperature change as I drink it.

F - Good mild-frothy feel with medium fullness. Smooths out as you drink it. But halfway through it presents a dry feel.

O - Overall this is a good beer. I’m a fan of Oktoberfests, and this one seems fine for the season. It’s a little smokier/toastier than I’d expect/prefer but it’s worth giving it a shot. I recommend trying it, but I’ll stick to other Oktoberfest offerings

Ok fellow beer geeks !!!! I have been drinking this beer for many many years and it has always been a delicious treat for my taste buds. I know I know it's not a not a Paulaner or a Hacker Schorr > Blah Blah Blah . It's a delicious too say the least take on the O- Fest style.

For starters it has a delicious toasty malt and fruity ( think Cherries ) aroma that is rather intriguing. Smells delicious >

The taste is still the same after all these years. I think it may even be a little better this year !!!! Slightly amped up or maybe it's my taste buds. The minuet you take the first sip you are greeted with a nice maltiness that is well tempered from the rather generous hopping ( 27 IBUs ) this year > I swear it used to be 30 but not a bad thing and I could be wrong. Toasty malt's with a fruity hop twang that lingers long on the palette. Plenty of hop bitterness to balance out the toasty malts. DELICIOUS !!!! Have to be careful because of the big flavor paired with the drinkability the six pack can go really fast > And I love the 5.8 ABV !!!

I love , savor and have tried almost every O-Fest beer I can get my hands on over the years and this one has always been
in my top 5 - 10 for sure > Do not let the negative reviews fool you into not trying this > This is a delicious and robust take on an all too familiar style that many breweries FAIL TREMENDOUSLY AT !!!!! This is definitely a winner > Seek it out while it's fresh and enjoy.

Smell !!!! Taste !!! And carbonation are world class !!!!!

Maybe one of the last Oktoberfests of the season? It's been a banner one for me. Pours headless and auburn in color but picks up some steam in the nose with big caramel and sweet brown malt notes. Flavor is solid for the style, but maybe a touch watery in the finish. Nothing special, but reasonably priced (sixer of bottles for nine bones) and a decent drinking marzen for a Friday night.

Poured a clear copper color with a one finger off-white fizzy head that dissipated quickly to a partial thin film. No lacing. Nose is almost non-existent . . . just a faint cherry malt. Taste is more cherry and caramel malt but quickly is overtaken by a metallic and salty taste that lingers on the finish. While this does not render the beer undrinkable, it is a strange taste and certainly not up to par with many of the German brews. The mouthfeel is also a bit strange starting with a lighter body that is wet and finishing heavier with a somewhat dry finish. Carbonation is fizzy. I am a bit surprised by this beer from Boulevard as I expected it to be better. Perhaps a bad bottle?
