Brewed by:
Boulevard Brewing Co.
Missouri, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

A-poured into a Boulevard snifter. Pours a dark copper color, slightly hazy with a huge rocky off white head that retains long after the pour, leaving moderate lace behind.

S- citrus and piney hops with a tropical kick of pineapple and peach nectar, some sweet and slightly bready malt at the end

T- citrus and fruity, the tropical notes on the nose continue through the palate. Just enough sweet malt to be noticed, the finish is clean, dry and bitter with a bit of fresh mint. Alcohol is hidden tremendously.

M- medium body and carbonation, super creamy mouthfeel with a smooth and crisp finish, superior drinkability

O- a very drinkable DIPA with a great mouthfeel. My only complaint was that I was looking for just a bit more malt. Solid overall.

A - orangish brown with clingy yellowish head

Fruity , malty nose

Medium mouth feel

A malty and mellon, fruity taste with pine cone, hoppy finish. Very balanced malt / hop taste. Thin finish. The malt fruit hop taste is nice if somewhat one dimensional. I'd have it again but it won't knock your socks off. Think of it as an easy going Double IPA.

Appearance - One finger of barely off white frothy head. Deep orange color. Solid carbonation is visible through a somewhat hazy body. Excellent lacing.

Aroma - Kind of a sweeter smell for an IPA. Some roasted malts, dark fruit. It doesn't seem to have an overpowering IPA smell. I get a little bit of floral hops on the back end.

Taste - Floral hops, hint of raisin, fruity but not citrusy. Not as much malt as is evident in the aroma but it still has a solid presence. Small notes of noticeable booze. Nice bitter finish through a short lived aftertaste.

Feel - Great feel to it. It's thick enough to linger across the palate, yet its carbonation helps it find a great middle ground between syrupy and too light. Easy to drink for a DIPA.

Overall - Solid DIPA. I'll definitely get it again if I ever come across it on tap.

I poured this into a stemmed glass with a wide opening. There was quite a bit of foam on the initial pour. It died down to about a finger and a half, but the stickiness led to some really good lacing on the side.

The nose on this beer is a little different. You get the typical citrus found in many DIPA's out there. There is also some sweetness and a little venous quality.

The flavor is a hop bomb. You get a lot of the citrus in each sip. There is also a pretty good balance in this one. The bitterness is not overwhelming.

I liked this beer. This makes for a pretty good "get" in the long line of very good DIPA's out there.
