Brewed by:
Boulevard Brewing Co.
Missouri, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

I’ve had this bottle in the back of my fridge for a couple of years; I wonder how it held up. This pours a medium amber color with a fairly fluffy head that leave great lacing. The scent is very hoppy, very inviting for an IPA. The texture is thin and smooth. The taste is crisp yet has hints of sweet toasted malts before it finish with a dry, bitter after taste. It almost has some oak characteristics as well in it.

A - A cloudy deep amber orange with sediment floating, with a huge 3 fingers of head and lots of sticky lace left on the glass. This is what a DIPA is supposed to look like!

S - A huge blast of piny and citra hops.

T - A well balanced blend of citrus and piny hops, but citrus dominate. Not bitter at all. Tasty! Wow, and and well balanced!

M - full bodied, medium carbonation, and very smooth down the pipe

O - A very tasty DIPA. Now that it is in 4 packs locally, I will pick this one up whenever I can find it. Well done!

12 oz brown bottle into... whatever you call the new Flying Dog glass. Best before 1/27/13

Appearance: Pours a hazy burnt copper. Nice two finger beige colored head. Great retention and some sticky lacing throughout.

Aroma: Has a bright citrusy hop aroma. Apricot, orange, pine and tobacco. Toasty biscuity malt.

Taste: Not quite like the aroma would lead on. Malts are unexpectedly present throughout and provide a solid backbone and balance. That being said, plenty of pungent piney and citrusy hops. Some herbal earthy flavor going on. The ornage and apricot flavors are there. It's a fairly standard but well-made DIPA

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth carbonation. Somewhat dry.

Was a more malt-heavy DIPA than I typically prefer but it's also a well-crafted DIPA without many flaws.
