Brewed by:
Boulevard Brewing Co.
Missouri, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

P: 12oz brown bottle poured into a cone, pint glass.

A: VERY heady start (I would say too much), followed by a spectacle of lacing. Clear golden amber color.

S: Piny, minty and citric hop nose ... strength in that order and a burst of apricot within.

T: Smooth and slick with a full-ish body. Bitterness is aggressive but not abusive, hop flavor jumps from herbal / tobacco to pine resin to mint to citric.

M: Some heat here, alcohol is noticeable for sure but it does not get in the way. Oh yeah, there is malt here too ... slab of bread, toasted a bit. Finishes with a big hop flavor and lingering bitterness as well as the alcohol warmth.

D: While other limited batches of DIPA's garner all of the hype this sleeper has awakened my palate. Highly recommended especially at the prices it will be selling at.

Poured into my crystal mug this beer is a hazy amber, with some hints of old copper. A beautiful creamy tan head builds about three fingers high. It sticks arround for a while. After dissipating there is great lacing.
The smell is of citrus and flowery hops, some caramel.
The taste is exceptional! Fine flowery hops up front. Citrus, pineapple flavors are balanced by a malt backbone. The finish is smooth, but full of hop.
What a wonderful IPA.

appearance: Hazy amber. Thick and creamy off white head.
smell: On the floral citrus spectrum. bit of pine.
taste: Hops are more subdued in the taste well balanced by caramel backbone. The hops are still sharp.
overall: Very nice. Interesting hop profile:

This poured out as a slightly hazy looking copper color with a big foamy white head on top. The lacing is clumpy and sticks really well, good retention also. The smell of this brew has a good hoppy aroma with a hefty amount of malt too. The taste of the beer gives off a nice malt profile in the beginning, soft and sweet, then unleashes the hops in the finish leaving behind resin like lemon flavors. The mouthfeel is smooth, nicely carbonated and medium bodied. Overall this beer was really quite nice, glad I managed to get a bottle to try.

32 oz Counter pressure filled growler.

A - Deep copper-light amber body. Thin beige head with excellent lacing.

S - Dank, pine hops. This brew is super fresh.

T - Big biscuity malt bill balances out a grassy/piney hop profile.

M - More on the sticky chewy side, but far from the most sticky DIPA out there.

O - Super solid brew. Not quite east or west coast - just like Kansas City

Best by 2013. Just entered NC this week.

Its a super dark amber (almost like an amber ale). Huge head, lots of carbonation. Head is light caramel.

I get a serious resinous pine from the hops. Not like a heavy dominating aroma, but its there when you agitate it. Malt smells light and quaint. What I get is like a light version of Hopslam. Sticky honeycomb.

Strong medicinal hop bite straight away. Earthy hops come in waves. Pine resin floats in the background, but brings a pungent sprucy bite. I know the hops have faded, because there isnt a citrus note in there anywhere. The malt is light and slick, and allows what was the hops to shine.
