Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Lately it occurs to us that if, back in 1989, you planned on starting a brewery in the back of your carpentry shop, you'd been wise to seek out someone like Harold “Trip” Hogue. A collector of ancient Volvos, Trip was well qualified for the make-do engineering required to coax recalcitrant equipment out of retirement and into making the first Boulevard beers. Today, he is our longest-tenured employee. We offer this rich, golden Tripel in grateful tribute to dedication, everywhere.

Bottle poured into a large tulip glass

L- straw with a nice foamy white head. Minimum lacing. Not much retention

S- typical for the style. Clove, banana, lemon

T- follows the nose with a little black pepper as well. Bitterness is perfect

F- light bodied. Lots of carbonation, just on the right side of over doing it. Fine line.

O- very good beer. I typically don't drink a lot of Belgian style beers. But this might change that.

Lovely dense head sitting atop a pale golden ale. Some tracing.

Spice and hops in the nose, and that characteristic astringency present in the style.

Bland on the tongue. Too sharp to pick out finer details.

Scouring yet cloying in the aftertaste. Bitterness more than anything. It's not terrible, just lacking in the characteristics that make Belgian tripels so appealing.

750 ml bottle into Belgian ale glass

A - 3 fingers white foam over a slightly-cloudy body of gold; high visible carbonation

S - Belgian funk (clove & banana), spice, hint of lemon

T - banana, clove, tropical fruits, peppery spice, touch of alcohol warms the palate

M - light/medium body, highly carbonated, bone-dry finish

O - excellent representation of the style

From a bottle into a snifter

Pour is a deep golden color with orange hue when held to the light. Very effervescent! When I piped the cork the foam threatened to overflow onto the floor. 2 full fingers of white foam in the glass

Smell is spicy with lots of pepper. Tons of clove and banana make this exactly what you want for the style.

Taste follows the nose exactly with heavy banana and clove up front and peppery bitterness for balance. Really a fantastic combination.

Feel is very bubbly with light to medium body. Kind of odd for a 10% beer. I would have expected heavier feel.

Overall a fantastic example of the style.

Bottle. I think this had some age on it. Dark golden color. Well put together Tripel. You get exactly what you would expect. Yeast spice, fruits, a bit of booze. Flavors of honey, phenols and the like. I guess I am rarely in the mood for the style.

Possibly the smoothest beer ive ever had, these guys seem to know exactly what they are doing in every style they produce. This looks perfectly golden, smell is fruity and slight booze, taste is similar to smell but with definite fruity tinge to it, then it drifts away as easy as it came, dare i say it, the best tripel ive ever had. Boulevard do not f#ck about. Top class.

Poured in a Ballast Point tulip-style glass. Just started receiving Boulevard brews in AZ, and so far I'm very happy we are.

Look: Pours a grassy-hay color with a tinge of orange. Billowy, effervescent head fills a few fingers worth into my glass. Slowly dissipates into about a finger of foam, nice and bright white atop the liquid.

Smell: Smell is what you would expect from a fine Belgian-style beer. Banana and some clove, spicy and peppery. Some hay and lemon in there as well.

Taste: More of the same notes from the nose. Some banana and clove with a little peppery bite. Insanely drinkable and delicious.

Feel: Bubbly mouthfeel but just right, not overly carbonated. Fairly light body to this one that is great for a brew almost hitting 10% ABV. Finishes dry on the palate just asking for another sip.

Overall: I am a total sucker for Belgian beers and this is no exception. Very happy to have Boulevard here in AZ now! Glad to pick this up when I need a Tripel anytime!
