12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, dark, dark brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of bourbon, oak, vanilla and toffee. Roasty tasting with vanilla, oak and a lot of bourbon.

Picked up two of these as part of an R&D sixer from TW Arrowhead 11-18-19 for $18.99. Enjoy by 21AUG2020; consumed on 2-22-20.

Beer poured a murky brown with a beautiful long lasting off white head.

Nose is raisins, caramelized sugar, some vanilla, figs, and light bourbon.

Taste is not as dynamic, figs, vanilla, and faint bourbon merge nicely with the large by light malt base with a slightly sweet but balanced finish.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and smooth in the Belgian fashion.

Overall a solid enjoyable beer, glad to have tried!

Thulsa Doom

A nice mahogany caramel color with a fuzzy head of 1 finger, light khaki in color, with lacing in loops.

Wet bourbon barrel and caramel sap on the nose, with hints of hard toffee and golden raisin. Slight dark dried fruit.

Flavor has spectres of their Bourbon Quad, but only distant echoes. This is a cousin, something entirely different but related. To be more specific, it has notes of spicy rye, caramel sauce, wet floorboard, sweet brown sugar, vanilla, slight soy, and molasses. Faint dark dried fruit. I'm stuck between a 4 and a 4.25 on this one. It's tasty, but doesn't quite get there. Hm.

Feel is pleasantly hot, with a good alcohol burn and dryness, with some surprising hop resin action and cling. Sticky finish. Nice!

I probably like this more than other people, but I thought this was a worthy entry into the 6 pack. Very nicely done and if they released 4 packs of this for $10 I'd be game on the regular. Nice cousin to their Bourbon Barrel Quad.

Dark mahogany colored with a murky profile. There’s a fingernail of beige covering the majority of the top. The aroma is of faint light Belgian candy sugar and caramel. I’m tasting lots of light Belgian candy sugar, sweet bourbon, and alcohol. The mouth is very dry, crisp, and boozy.

First one from the pack since it's the one I'm least excited about, but this is a very pleasant surprise. The sugars are relatively subdued, allowing some really nice raisin and plum notes to shine through. The barrel imparts mellow vanilla and bourbon plus a faint woody tingle.

Brown and essentially opaque or damn close to it; turned up a thing finger of brief tan foam; persisted mostly as a collar of sorts and something of a vague sheen on part of the surface...

They really did a nice job with all three beers - obviously that includes this one - a solid and well-executed Belgian strong dark ale aged in bourbon barrels. The dark ale profile is on-point - dark fruits with hints of spice and sugars, a medium-weight body with some shellac and tack, moderately sweet, with just a whiff of bittering... The barrel aging is very respectful of both the beer and the barrel - it offers up some woody notes and a bit of booziness to the juices of the fruit notes... Well-rounded and easy-to-drink... Recommended...

Bottle has a best by date of 8/21/20...

Going in I really love these guys for what they do they make very high gravity bourbon barrel-aged beers at a very affordable price. Can't say I really knock this one it's very smooth Bourbon tones mix pretty well with fruity aspects of a Belgian dark ale. Can't say I really love it but it does give me some excitement for the sweet imperial Stout I have to try within this line of beers.

Poured moderately hard from a bottle into a snifter glass, with around a finger of frothy tan head forming. Color is almost transparent light brown. Smell is a bit of bourbon and a nutty flavor, probably most similar to hazelnut. Taste is excellent, not overly strong bourbon ending with a bit of the hazelnut-like flavor. Light bodied with light carbonation. Easy to drink and hard to tell its 11.9% ABV.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with a thumb+ of tan head. No real head retention or lacing

S: Faint raisin & Bourbon, figs once warm; best apsect of this beer

T: Follows the nose, woody dryness, booze is present, but not over powering up front. Dark fruit , woody dryness, & faint boozeyness as this warms. Finishes with leafy hops, light figgyness & dryness

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, thins out a little once warm

Decent nor great BA take on the style

Boy, if all brown ales were this good, I'd drink a lot more of them! This is a pretty solid brown ale base, but the barrel aging really brings out a full-bodied flavor, and I noticed that you get more of the bourbon infusion as the beer warmed up, so that was an interesting profile. There's a faint bourbon smell, but the taste is much stronger, which is opposite of how most beers wind up after a long aging process. Good work by Boulevard on this one.

Pours a dark burgundy-brown with a bit of murkiness to the transparency. Head is a finger of khaki foam after half an aggressive pour from the 11.2oz bottle. Aroma is big and bold Belgian dark ale notes with hits of raisins, ripe and rich plums, clove, molasses, and toffee. Just beyond the Belgian dark ale notes is a touch of bourbon and with it a zap of heat. Despite the heat, the overall aromatic display leans towards sweet. Flavor profile is sugary sweet, with plums, raisins, molasses and toffee all dancing across the tongue. As the flavor profile progresses, there is a twinge of heat and balance from the bourbon, but really the bourbon just adds a bit of chary, tobacco depth to the flavor profile, without doing much to counteract the initial sweetness. As the beer warms up, there is a touch more balance on the back end, making it less sweet. It leans towards sweet, and heavily. Mouth feel is medium-thick with an uneventful texture that carries a little bubbly, sharp effervescence up front, and a light grainy particulate in the back. Overall, while the aroma is solid, the flavor profile comes on too sweet and never really levels out in terms of balance.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 11.2oz bottle.

Poured from a bottle - Dark mahogany/carmine color with quickly dissipating vellum head leaving minimal frosty lacing. Nose is sweet with dark stone fruit and bourbon barrel wood. Taste follows with more sweet boozy dark fruit. Not very Belgian at all ,but reminds me of Kasteel Rouge.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma is Belgian quad (figs and raisins, candi sugar, a hint of banana) with bourbon and vanilla. The 11.9% abv is fairly well-hidden. Mouthfeel is a little bit on the thin side with below-average carbonation. Overall it's a solid bourbon barrel quad/Belgian strong dark ale.
