12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, dark, dark brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of bourbon, oak, vanilla and toffee. Roasty tasting with vanilla, oak and a lot of bourbon.

First one from the pack since it's the one I'm least excited about, but this is a very pleasant surprise. The sugars are relatively subdued, allowing some really nice raisin and plum notes to shine through. The barrel imparts mellow vanilla and bourbon plus a faint woody tingle.

Brown and essentially opaque or damn close to it; turned up a thing finger of brief tan foam; persisted mostly as a collar of sorts and something of a vague sheen on part of the surface...

They really did a nice job with all three beers - obviously that includes this one - a solid and well-executed Belgian strong dark ale aged in bourbon barrels. The dark ale profile is on-point - dark fruits with hints of spice and sugars, a medium-weight body with some shellac and tack, moderately sweet, with just a whiff of bittering... The barrel aging is very respectful of both the beer and the barrel - it offers up some woody notes and a bit of booziness to the juices of the fruit notes... Well-rounded and easy-to-drink... Recommended...

Bottle has a best by date of 8/21/20...

Going in I really love these guys for what they do they make very high gravity bourbon barrel-aged beers at a very affordable price. Can't say I really knock this one it's very smooth Bourbon tones mix pretty well with fruity aspects of a Belgian dark ale. Can't say I really love it but it does give me some excitement for the sweet imperial Stout I have to try within this line of beers.

Boy, if all brown ales were this good, I'd drink a lot more of them! This is a pretty solid brown ale base, but the barrel aging really brings out a full-bodied flavor, and I noticed that you get more of the bourbon infusion as the beer warmed up, so that was an interesting profile. There's a faint bourbon smell, but the taste is much stronger, which is opposite of how most beers wind up after a long aging process. Good work by Boulevard on this one.

Pours a dark burgundy-brown with a bit of murkiness to the transparency. Head is a finger of khaki foam after half an aggressive pour from the 11.2oz bottle. Aroma is big and bold Belgian dark ale notes with hits of raisins, ripe and rich plums, clove, molasses, and toffee. Just beyond the Belgian dark ale notes is a touch of bourbon and with it a zap of heat. Despite the heat, the overall aromatic display leans towards sweet. Flavor profile is sugary sweet, with plums, raisins, molasses and toffee all dancing across the tongue. As the flavor profile progresses, there is a twinge of heat and balance from the bourbon, but really the bourbon just adds a bit of chary, tobacco depth to the flavor profile, without doing much to counteract the initial sweetness. As the beer warms up, there is a touch more balance on the back end, making it less sweet. It leans towards sweet, and heavily. Mouth feel is medium-thick with an uneventful texture that carries a little bubbly, sharp effervescence up front, and a light grainy particulate in the back. Overall, while the aroma is solid, the flavor profile comes on too sweet and never really levels out in terms of balance.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 11.2oz bottle.

Poured from a bottle - Dark mahogany/carmine color with quickly dissipating vellum head leaving minimal frosty lacing. Nose is sweet with dark stone fruit and bourbon barrel wood. Taste follows with more sweet boozy dark fruit. Not very Belgian at all ,but reminds me of Kasteel Rouge.

Poured a semi-opaque root beer brown with a tan 2 finger head that dissipated slowly. Moderate lacing. Sweet dark fruit and caramel aroma with a hint of oak. Taste follows the nose with more pronounced dark fruit soaked in bourbon and vanilla. Medium body and carbonation with a smooth feel and so balanced. I was expecting more carbonation for a Belgian, but do not miss it. That makes this dangerous because at 11.9, it is so easy to drink. Way to go Boulevard!
