Boulevard Single-Wide I.P.A. is our take on a style that originated in 18th century Great Britain. This American version—inspired by our Smokestack Series Double-Wide I.P.A.—boasts a heady combination of six varieties of hops, some of which were employed for dry-hopping.

A: Appearance is light orange with decent, off-white head.
S: Aroma is disappointingly weak with notes of citrus including orange and mango.
T: Taste is similar with citrus flavors the quickly fade moving into piney hops. Balance is tipping a little more to the bitterness giving it a moderate dry finish.
M: Palate is medium-bodied, slightly thin, and average carbonation.
O: Not really a true IPA in my opinion and only an average APA.

I picked up a bottle of Boulevard's Single-Wide IPA in their variety pack at The Lager Mill. I've haven't had any Boulevard beers before and I'm happy to get the chance to try them now that they are in Michigan, so lets see see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a IPA glass.
A- Th label looks good, it had a nice design that goes with the name and it's a little eye catching. It poured a fairly clear golden amber color that took on more of a burnt orange color when held to the light with almost two fingers worth of creamy slightly off white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some nice rings of patchy lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.
S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with a slightly bit of doughy yeast being the first to show up and it goes right into the hops which impart a floral and citrus rind aroma with a little bit of a spicy and slightly soapy aromas coming through in the background. Up next comes the malts which impart a pale malt, sweet malt and caramel malt aroma and towards the end comes a little more of those citrus hoppy aromas. This beer has a good aroma, it's just what I would expect from an IPA.
T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops being the first to show up this time and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time more fruity flavors show up without much of that soapy hop aspect that I got in the aroma. Up next comes a slight bit of doughy yeast that leads into the malts with impart a grainy, pale malt and caramel malt like flavors with just a little bit of sweet malts in the background. On the finish there's a slightly higher amount of medium bitterness with a nice hoppy citrus rind aftertaste. This is a good tasting IPA, it's just what I expect from the style.
M- Pretty smooth, slightly refreshing, crisp on the slightly lighter side of being medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.
Overall I thought this was a good ber and it's a good example of an IPA, it's pretty much just what I would expect from the style and all the flavors and aromas worked well together with nothing ever seeming out of place. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple of them. What I like the most about this beer is the balance, it's just where it needs to be and it's very nice for the style. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, there isn't anything that sticks out as not being as good as the other aspects. I would buy this beer on it's own and I would recommend it to any IPA fan. All in all I liked this one and I thought it was just a good example of the style with no weak points. It made for a good first Impression for Boulevard and I'm interested in trying more of their beer, it's good example of an IPA. Good job guys, this is a good IPA, keep it up.

Poured into a nonic a hazy lighter amber shade with a a huge blooming white head that went over the sides even with a softer pour.Juicy grapefruit-like hops over top of some alcohol and biscuit malt, the alcohol was pretty large for a smaller beer.Grapefruit flavors along with fruity/gummy notes,it is a little sweet but the hops really burst out at ya.It's a little watery in the back end but it's a flavor packed ipa, again the alcohol to me seems bigger than what it is.

Translucent light copper. Single finger, good lacing. Would have liked a deeper color.
Piney, grapefruit, malt. Somewhat light, more floral than powering.
Little chewey, somewhat wet. Light malt, pine present. Something unnatural, though not harsh.
Light, abv light. Couild use a little more malt to counter act ~6%
Good. might desire some more aroma
Id move forward instead of moving back to it

12 oz bottle, best by 8/1/09. Pours a glowing hazy golden with a thick creamy head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is bready malts and grassy hops with a little pine and fruit.
The flavor is a little subdued and watery. It's got some floral spicy tarry hops with a tinge of sweet fruity malts that leads to a kind of flavorless bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with some sharp carbonation.
Overall, this IPA is not up my alley. It seems like a lot of the nose and taste is washed out except for the tarry bitterness in the aftertaste.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date
LOOK: Mildly hazed golden hue, good sudys lacing
SMELL: Piney, catty, tangerine, mango, doughy biscuits, nutty yeast, esters
TASTE: Crisp, wet, moderate body, oily hop, balanced bitterness, orange peel, dried grass, chalky, herbal, leafy, blonde tobacco, black tea, dry finish
Fresh, somewhat aggressive and quite drinkable. Bitterness is pretty high but is does not take over the palate, more than enough to let you know that it is an IPA.

12 ounce bottle, best before 12/29/12 etched onto the bottle.
Pours near clear, lighter amber. Large off white and loose head, that stays before going to a thicker collar and ample spotty lace.
Distinct note of cascades in the nose.
Well hopped and quite enjoyable IPA. Grapefruit hoppy notes, ample malts to provide some balance. Some lime soaked dryness in the finish. Nicely done...
Boulevard is on my short wish list of breweries I'd love to see distributing in the NY/CT/NJ tri state area

Poured into a Sam Adams perfect Pint Glass
Appearance: high carbonation, orange-gold in color, 3/4 inch head, clear
Smell: citrus hops--oranges and lemons
Taste: citrus--tangerine orange, grapefruit with some pine hops and caramel
Mouthfeel: light bodied, high carbonation, bitter with some sweetness in the middle and a more bitter/dry end--bitter but never mouth puckeringly so
Overall: Bitter and clean. This would be an IPA that I would reach for if I wanted an IPA. A nice sipper.

Served on tap.
A: Hazy light amber...slightly orange. Nice, big frothy head. All kinds of lacing as the head dissipates.
S: The nose offers up pine and citrus...am I detecting some lemon?
T: Very good. Nice hop bite and finishes quite clean. Pine notes are noticeable but overwhelming.
M: The feel is on the oily side. It has just the right amount of carbonation. Quite smooth for an IPA.
D: This is a very good beer. I could have several of these without thinking twice about it.
Overall: I'm impressed with this one as I wasn't expecting a lot. A bartender friend of mine brought this to me to try and I loved it. It had just been tapped a few minutes earlier and it was great! Try it if you get a chance.
