I was elated & an attendee a few years ago at the Press fete in PHL for the announcement that Boulevard B.C. beers of KC, MO would now be available in PA! My enthusiasm has not waned in the least, but I have a sufficient amount of their beers in the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody that I am conducting a Coup de Boule(vard) today for New Beer Sunday (Week 663). Hang on, it's going to be quite the ride!

From the bottle: "57 IBUs".

How is it that I have never reviewed this beer until now?!? It is nice to finally join the crowd. I began by Pop!ping the cap & performing a slow, gentle pour into my awaiting glass. It formed a modest head, but that was not enough to satisfy me, so I performed an in-glass swirl. This resulted in two fingers of dense, foamy, tawny head with very good retention that created nice sticky lacing as it fell. Color was solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very citrusy, primarily grapefruit, but also some lemon and orange for good measure. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very juicy, more towards oranges than grapefruit, but with a light biscuitiness and a mellow overall tea-like quality. I really think that the earlier Extra Pale Ale was closer to an AIPA while this was closer to an APA. No big deal either way, but this beer might leave some hopheads disappointed. As for me, it is closing in on the end of another marathon NBS so this was a good penultimate (I think) beer. Finish was dry, but the bitterness was kind of low for the style. I liked it well enough, but it just lacked the kind of Oomph! that would cause me to recommend it to others.

Pours clear honey, looks filtered, with a medium head that dissipates relatively fast and leaves just spotty lace. Nose is quite mild with just a little orange and bread notes coming through. Bit disappointing so far. Taste is certainly bigger. Distinct canned mandarin orange along with a rather solid malt backbone that gives it very good balance. Bitterness is just the right amount to carry a long finish without leaving an astringent flavor. Overall, a mixed bag with a poor nose and great flavor.

I purchased this one on the shelves here in northern France.

Poured into a neutral Teku,

Color is amber/orange with a thick head with great retention and leaving some laces.

Nice aroma with notes of lychees, fresh oranges, grapefruit, biscuit and caramel malt and mild pine.

Citrusy flavor with notes of grapefruit, spices, mandarin, slight toasted malts, 3C hops, tea leaves, orange peel, lemongrass and lime.
Dry and bitter aftertaste.

Light body with appropriate carbonation.

Pretty decent American IPA, although it is not that fresh still conserved well its characteristics.

Overall this was pretty good but there are dozen better American IPAS to hunt these day's.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was somewhat hazy yet also slightly clear copper/orange body with a one finger white foamy that once it starts to die a super nice foamy lacing appears to grace the sides of the glass. The smell had subdued hops through some piney tones, slight maltiness comes out as the beer warms. The taste is sweet and smooth through the previously mentioned flavors, bittersweet aftertaste and finish. The palate is light, sessionable, carbonation is good for the style and for me. Overall, pretty nice DIPA that took me a couple of bottles to try to actually warm up to on my own.

A little cloudy amber beer. Not very foamy.
Fruity and hoppy smell.
Like most IPA, hoppy taste but still quite subtle.
A little astringency at the beginning and a bitter end mostly due to the hops.
Overall enjoyable beer.

I am sure this is not a bad beer. It just tastes very bitter to me- like that old-style white grapefruit juice they used to sell in the little cans - only this is prettier and has fizz.
I like very rich porters and stouts, which are supposedly bitter. They do not taste bitter to me, but this does. Pairing it with various sweet or savory flavors did not help much. Was better out of a glass than the bottle.
I've rated it according to my taste for my future reference, not according to the quality of beer.

Bought a single poured into a pint glass. Nice amber color but with very little head. Smells more like a pale ale than IPA. Tastes like a good pale ale and has very little after taste. Overall good, but more of a pale ale in both IBU and ABV.

355 ml bottle, M and S, Bristol - Pours clear golden with a medium white foamy head. Medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma - citrus to the fore - grapefruit, orange/mandarin. Taste - Same as aroma at the front, light malt feel leading to a crisp light bitter finish. Solid APA.
