Boss Tom’s Golden Bock is our seasonal offering for late spring. The smooth, soft maltiness of this traditional lager is complemented by a noticeable but restrained hop presence. The beer finishes with a lingering dryness and just a hint of caramel. The word “bock” also means “billy goat,” and images of goats are often used as a symbol of the style.

Short-lived small white head tops a golden bodied brew, slight haze but mostly clear. Pretty sweet, malty scent with some grains. Nice full malt start, grainy and sweet, toasted with some grassy tones. Light floral hops round it out, with a bit of alcohol noted. Lighter bodied than a lot of the maibocks i recall. Nothing to complain about with this one, pretty good

This is somewhat a classic to me because I used to drink it in my late teens before I got into IPAs. Something has always been so appealing about this beer to me so I had to give it a review. Poured into a pint glass from a nice and cold bottle, pretty fresh as well.
Look: Perfectly clear golden color with a lively white head. There was ample visible carbonation that swirled upwards from the bottom of the glass.
Smell: I love this smell, it is crackery, sweet, and malty with a tiny bit of floral hops in there as well. I enjoy deeply inhaling the aromas of this beer as I drink it.
Taste: The taste is a well balanced sweet toasted cracker malt upfront but with a floral and grassy touch of hops that balanced the sweetness.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp with a bit of dryness at the back end. Very drinkable with a quenching quality despite the astringency and warmth of the alcohol.
Overall: I love the character of this beer, it is unique and delicious. The ABV is respectable and sufficient, but I prefer a stronger Bock.

I am drinking this a month before its best buy date. The nose is not big. It’s clean with a hint of lightly cooked sugars and traces of light grains. It pours brilliant pale gold with a very light copper tint under a thin white head that quickly dissipates to nothing. A palate of light grains lightly seasoned with caramel and a hint of hops could benefit from a soft creamy carbonation. Medium bodied but nearly flat and the absence of a creamy head is disappointing. This beer could use more cowbell.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass
Appearance: Pours a clear, golden color with an eighth of a finger of white head that immediately dissolved away into no head what-so-ever. Honestly, it looks like a BMC beer and had I not poured it myself, that’s what I’d take it for, on appearance alone.
Aroma: Not much in the aroma department either. Some subtle aromas of toasted malt and touch of hops, but really not much at all. Not doing much to change my mind that it’s not a BMC beer.
Taste: However, this beer sure as hell doesn’t taste like a BMC beer!! Strong flavors of toasted malt, immediately followed by some caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness, finished with some nicely balanced hops. Really a great tasting beer!
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, crisp and very effervescent. With an ABV of 6.1%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.
Overall: This beer, while lacking in appearance and aroma, it more than makes up for in the taste. Delicious!!
