Gunpowder IPAGunpowder IPA
Notes: A bright and bold IPA that won’t burn you buds. This beer gets its aroma from Gunpowder Green Tea and citrus zest in the boil with generous dry hop additions of Citra Hops. With it’s herbal complexity and balanced backbone… This IPA is sure to please.

Appearance - The beer poured a golden yellow color with a generous white head.

Smells - amid the generous citrus notes were hints of tea.

Taste - The initial impression includes bright citrus hops. The green tea adds a dry bitterness that compliments the citrus. It seemed like a cup of citrus tea with citrus fruit. The finish was more dry than sweet, creating the urge for another drink.

Mouthfeel - The beer was carbonation the brush away sweetness, leaving a dry backbone.

Overall - This is not an everyday IPA for me, but I found it to be quite tasty.

16 oz beer poured into a pint glass no discernible canned on date.

A: Small creamy tiny bubbles white head that laces nicely as it settles. body is a deep tan turbid color.

S: Grt a touch of rotten fruit smell like over ripe cantaloupe, and some earthy herbal smell.

T: Very odd. you get a little fruit, a little tea, a lot of rotten fruit, some almost tobacco like flavor, weird spice.

M: Medium to fuller body super low carbonation.

O: This beer is not my cup of tea. The flavors are muddled but it does have a lot of earthy tea flavors, which do not lend to the Hop citrus flavors and resin but seem to clash with them.

Very solid IPA with a slight twist. Beautiful hazy orange pour. Smell is just meh, but the taste is really balanced well with citrus, orange, pine, and a tea finish. Feel is spot on but could use a little more body to match the pour. Well done.

This beer pours an opaque orange with a large head. The aroma features notes of orange peel. white grape, and oddly, leafy greens, and basil. The flavor is semi sweet with notes of orange peel, green tea, strong vegetal notes, pine, and mint. The mouthfeel has a fullish body with bold carbonation. Overall this is a really awesome beer - pleasantly sweet, with a really appealing vegetal quality.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 1 pint can on January 29, 2018. West Coast Style IPA brewed with gunpowder green tea. Look is bright. Smell and taste is citrus fruit and herbal. Feel is clean and smooth.

This beer pours a semi clear golden color. The head is fairly frothy, white, and has nice lacing on the glass.
The nose is nice and citrusy, and I can also smell a hint of the tea.
Taste is fairly standard for an IPA, but there's an added ayer due to the tea. It works well together, and the flavors do not clash.
The feel is a bit more watery than I'd like, but not too bad.
This beer works wel together, just wish it had a better body.

Pours a clear yellow golden color with white head. Citrus, other light fruits, green tea, and some light pine notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with green tea, citrus, and a little pine.

16oz can, no apparent freshness date, poured into a pint glass
A: Light orange/pale brown with a lingering one-finger head
S: Green tea, mango, grapefruit
T: Caramel/malt, absent on the nose, provide the initial flavors. Those are followed by green tea/dried florals and hints of tropical fruit/herbs
M: Medium-bodied, dry
O: I like this. The tea/herbal notes add enjoyable flavors while making it drier than the typical citrus/fruit-forward IPA. Unique and pleasant to drink

Look: Pours a hazy light gold, with a fingers worth of head streaming towards the top of my glass. Gunpowder reminds me of a Toppling Goliath IPA: not east coast haze, but definitely not clear.

Smell: Citrus, slight melon, sort of a mango pineapple scent. A little swirl gives me a grassy note that I attribute to the green tea.

Taste: Initially the green tea grassiness hits me, with some melon shining through, and some fruits. On the second sip, more of that mango comes through, but it's certainly not a tropical fruit bomb. The green tea seems to contribute to the finishing flavors.

Feel: Medium to medium full feel, not especially bitter or dry, but there's a slight bitterness in the finish.

Overall: I've been working on this four pack for a few weeks, and was super impressed with the first few cans; however, I think age is hitting into this. The other cans were very mango forward, but this is reminding me of old hops and green tea. When fresh, this beer is worth every penny. If you see Gunpowder, grab it.

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a medium golden body with a slight orange hue, one finger white head, good retention, bits of lacing. Smell is citrus, caramel, grainy malt, touch of herbal notes. Balanced nose between the hops and the malt. Flavour is similarly balanced; nice citrus, grapefruit, grainy sweetness, light resin, herbal notes on the finish. Presumably this is from the green tea. Mouthfeel is medium lighter bodied, good carbonation, a solid IPA to sip on at home.

A pint can with no visible date poured in a 12oz. tulip for the review.

Look- Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a generous finger of creamy white lingering foam. Generous lacing is left clinging as it settles.

Smell- Grapefruit, floral, herbal tea and sweet malt.

Taste- Floral up front along with grapefruit and tea. A hearty dose of malt soon follows.

Feel- Creamy smooth and slick.

Overall- A good IPA that leans towards the malty side. I feel it would benefit from a stronger hop profile. It tastes like an old school IPA with a green tea addition. It's drinkable, but not memorable.

Very pleasant aroma of pine and citrus.

Deep gold color...nice clarity...

Great hop flavor without a ton of bitterness...pine, oranges, light herbal like flavor late. Also a light dry finish.

Enjoyable beer. Love the flavors to this. 6.8% but drinks like a pale ale. Very smooth and loaded with flavor not biting bitterness.

The deeper in you drink the more rich/sweetish it gets and becomes a little too much. Wouldn't drink more than two of these at a time.

Dont like green tea! This IPA surprised me to no end. Great mouth feel, thick and juicy. Citrusy and bitter to cover the malt perfectly. Great job to the brewer!! Had this again and then again. GREAT BEER! Hidden gem!

Can (No date code)

hazy orange, maybe from the green tea?

smells of citrus zest and pith

first impressions of exotic herbal and tea rounding off into a nice bold citrus flavor

Rich and smooth with mild and very unique bitterness, again maybe the green tea?

overall very easy drinking beer. might be a good into to ipa. reminds me of an herbal and more complex fresh squeezed.

Cloudy orange from a can into pint glass. Ok lacing.

Nose isn't very pungent. You get hints of things, but nothing that begs what's to come.

Taste is almost herbal and sweet off the bat. Slight pine, citrus, and grass come in with a nice lingering floral bitterness that stay pleasant.

Mouthfeel keeps this easy drinking. Doesn't lay too heavy on the palette and lets nuanced flavors play.

Easy drinking and really nice effort from this new brewery. I'll buy this again.
