Sensei (Double Dry Hopped) is a Triple India Pale Ale & the BIG brother of Master of Karate! Sensei is fermented on our house yeast then hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo, & Galaxy. Notes of citrus, mango, pineapple, & pine with a creamy mouthfeel. Think candied oranges.

Picked up a single from The Blue Door Bottleshop in Hendersonville 2-9-23 for $7.00. No discernible canning date; consumed 9-6-23. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured orange with a nice white head that has some flotsam.

Nose is very nice, bright citrus and tropical fruit are vibrant.

Taste is a huge, sweet malt base that displays a lovely combination of orange, mango, and light traces of gooseberry. Hops do not stand out in the finish as i am left with a good amount of sweetness and lacking a hop bite; 3/10 on my bitterness scale. And there is some residual alcohol noticeable.

Mouthfeel is rich, thick, and creamy leading to a very smooth sip each time.

Overall this is too sweet but perhaps some of the finishing hops have faded over time. I find the Aslin TIPA's are commonly this way.

16oz can poured into a snifter

A- pours a hazy golden color with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention

S- smells of grapefruit, pineapple, pine resin, tangerine, ripe melon and some herbaceous mosaic

T- juicy mango, pineapple and citrus zest up front give way to a sweet malty undertone that gives some light bready notes. Mid-palate gives that candied orange note, along with more pineapple. The finish is juicy citrus and pine resin, with a light malty linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into a silky finish

16oz can from Tavour. Thick, murky dark golden with a thick, fluffy , white head. Leaves lacing all the way down. Zesty, fruity aroma, citrus, light tropical, hint of stone fruit. Taste brings some bready malts to hold up the fruity blend that finishes with a zippy bitterness.

Pours a very hazy dark orange with a medium sized fluffy smooth head and a lot of lacing.

Smells of floral hops and slightly tart citrus.

Tastes of grapefruit, orange and pineapple with a slightly bitter finish.

Medium body with light carbonation. Lush smooth mouthfeel.

This is a delicious juicy brew where the high alcohol hides way too well.

Dark Orange creamsicle appearance. Extremely cloudy, light fluffy head but strong fluffy lacing. Notes of orange, pineapple and mango on the nose. Taste is tangy citrus notes of the above fruits with a mildly dank pine background. Medium bodied, soft, slightly creamy, alcohol is well disguised. Excellent,

A: Dark milky gold-orange is a haze delight in the vessel, exhibiting a dense showing of dancing yeast particles from the excited carbonation factor. A milky off white head is soft and cushy atop, standing one inch with a fairly good hold. Good lace ring on the glass with a even more noticeable yeast layering covering the bottom of the vessel. Reminds me of my old home brewing days.

S: Fresh green melons exhibit a good fruitiness on the aroma paired with a strong display of grapefruit-citrus around the edges. Fresh peaches and apricot juice come secondary in nature. The overall strength is moderate, even toned, and good in delivery, just a little light in the complexity department. There are absolutely no signs of the 11% abv to be had with a finale of dried tropical pineapple upon some warming.

T: Spicy warm alcohol comes out to play on the flavor, unlike the nose. Spicy tropical alcohol combo of pineapple-citrus delivers a big kick to the taste buds. Some grassy pine hop resins are a bit sticky, mixing well with the lactose and dry double dry hop bitterness on the tongue providing a flowery bite and edge. Some wet grassiness comes on the swallow along with some dank pineapple citrus for the finish.

M: Milky medium texture and body, dry and flowery hop cones with a spicy tropical-citrus alcohol kick behaves well.

O: Tons of spicy tropical alcohol flavor combines with the double dry hopped bitterness to make a smooth, slow sipping triple ipa. While the flavor was well conceived considering the high abv, it was a little shallow in complexity, and just didn't give me that wow factor, making it fall just short of the outstanding possibility for me. A solid, great beer none the less. I'm a sucker for the big juicy haze appearance every time, the beer's best feature.

Murky/hazy orange with a huge cream head. Smells of orange, mango, pineapple, peach, lychee, and grapefruit pith with piney and floral dry hops. Tastes as it smells, very juicy and almost sweet up front with the fruits, back end brightens up even more and dries out a bit. Bright, so soft and smooth, bordering on resinous but stops short.

Traded for this a few weeks back as the person I got this from knows how much I love Aslin's beers. This was in line with what I've had from them before as it was a solid, tasty beer that didn't feel that strong at all. If you can handle the booze and like the Master of Karate, this would be well worth seeking out!

This had a good pour to it as the amber hue looked like amber and was somewhat thick like it as well! A sufficient head topped it off as it was quite voluminous at first but settled quickly into uneven foam. Lots of uneven, soapy lacing was left behind as I worked my way through this although no rings were readily detectable. Quite a nice aroma to this with lots of sticky mango, deep citrus, sweet malt, and booze (!) in the nose although I didn't feel it anywhere as much in the taste. Apricot, guava, and hints of deep weed emerged once this fully warmed up as this was a potent and sticky beer that left an impression of deep forest behind once I finished it off.

Not a lot of carbonation here as this was nicely slick but strong enough to warm me up well before my last sip. A ton of candied sweetness and deep tropical fruit had me wanting more but one can was more than enough for me to hold at a time. No date on the bottom of the can but besides that, this had plenty going for it. Worth seeking out if you have the time to enjoy this beast!

Aroma is on the sweeter side with a sweet malt base and citrus. Sweet malt base with candied citrus, spicy citrus rind, and pineapple. Finishes on the sweeter side and the ABV is totally undetectable for 11%.

Recommended.
