Pours pitch black color with 1-2 finger foamy light brown head that faded slowly and left minimal spotty lacing. Not great looking, but the nose makes up for it.
Smells of very strong burnt coffee grinds up front, then charred grains, cocoa nibs, coffee, vanilla and then the pecans and faint toasted coconut. Very complex while keeping the sweetness in check and hiding the alcohol completely.
Like the nose the flavor was very burnt coffee dominant, with cocoa powder, soy sauce, molasses, charred grains, vanilla, cocoa nibs, syrup, a dark coffee bitterness, pecans and nutty notes, then toasted coconut which fades with dark chocolate and a cola sweetness. Really complicated and different with each sip, Aslin has mastered putting ingredients together that work in harmony.

A really thick sweet beer. Incredibly tasty but not a beer I could drink beyond 6oz. worth max. More like an after dinner chocolate liquer.

The beer has a nice look to it. It is a dark syrup black.
The smell is pretty good. It has a good and strong pecan note to it. The cocoa adds a good milk chocolate sweetness. There is also some lightly roasted coffee notes that adds a good contrast and breaks up the sweetness of the notes. There is also a good creamy vanilla.
The taste is fantastic. There is a good toasted coconut and pecan note mixed in with a chocolate syrup note. The coffee is still in the taste but is a bit lighter than the smell.
The feel is good. It has as heavy body but with a syrupy texture to it. There is only very light carbonation to it.
Overall, this was a fantastic and indulgent beer. It was definitely as advertised as a liquid German chocolate cake.

A: Beer pours a dark black body with a cappuccino colored head. Head retains well on the beer and a nice amount of lacing remains while drinking.
S: Prior to the pour I could smell vanilla and coffee after opening the can. Once poured I noticed a sweet chocolate aroma. Coffee smells seemed to go away as beer warms.
T: Rich dessert chocolate flavors coming from the beer. Also could taste slight vanilla and coconut. But the main flavor was of sweet chocolate.
M: Very thick mouthfeel on the beer. The beer was almost cloying in the mix of thickness and sweetness. ABV is hidden well. Only noticed a slight alcohol burn after drinking.
O: Very sweet stout. Labeled a German Chocolate Cake in a can; labeled correctly in my opinion. Head retention hindered drinking at first and mouthfeel was too cloying at times. However, as a dessert stout this is spot on for what it supposed to be.
