Sampling a cellar temp 16 z can poured into my snifter. The beer is part of a trade with my buddy Craig, thanks man!
The beer pours a dark cola brown with no light passing through my glass. A dense spongey tan head foams up 1 cm even after a fairly assertive pour. The bubbles fade slowly and leave a sturdy surface layer that remains for most of the sampling.
the aroma is rich and malty with some toffee, brown sugar and molasses notes. I also get a lot of vanilla, cinnamon and some citrusy zest. This smells like a gingerbread cookie to me! No hops. And not boozy either, which is surprising for a 13% brew.
First sip reveals a pretty thick and chewy brew with very fine carbonation that is tingly on my palate yet is fairly gentle overall.
Flavor is again all malt with brown sugar, molasses, vanilla and cinnamon up front. I get a little bit of dark chocolate and some fig notes as well, but no hops here either. The 13% is well hidden and I think this could be dangerous. The cinnamon and citrus zest lingers on my palate long after each swallow.
This is a nice complex barleywine and I enjoy the malt forward profile a bunch. Im sure to be feeling the booze when my glass is empty but Im not noticing it yet. Very nice brew that I am glad to have poured into my glass.

Appearance: Pours espresso brown with a thick, one finger head; webby lacing

Smell: Caramelized aromatics emit the adjunct tones of cinnamon, fig, orange zest, vanilla and cocoa nibs - each and every element distinguishable

Taste: Brown bread, fig and caramel forward, with the cocoa nib tones adding a chocolate element; underneath, the cinnamon is quite pronounced, almost obliterating the vanilla which doesn't really emerge until the finish; the middle brings on the orange zest to provide a countervailing bitterness

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: A really interesting barleywine which I enjoyed thinking about more than consuming, truth be told; it's not that I didn't enjoy it - I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would after delving into the aromatics

Thanks, Frogger27, for the opportunity

Smell has orange zest, figs and cinnamon. Taste has a ton of flavors, but they play nicely off each other. I am getting chocolate, vanilla, figs, and light notes of spicy cinnamon. This guy drinks way too easy and is super smooth and cream, but also full-bodied.

Appearance - Pours thin black color with a nice thick tan head that settles to an 1/8" cap with spotty lacing around the glass.

Aroma - A wonderful meld of the main ingredients. I am getting the cinnamon and orange zest big time in the nose. I was not completely sure what a fig smelled like mostly dark fruit, rich aromatic which I get from this. The vanilla also adds some richness to the nose which is pretty dang rich. The cocoa nibs come out very nice as well.

Taste - The taste is very smooth, no sign of the 13%, rich chocolate hits me first, the vanilla and figs come in afterwards. The cinnamon comes in more towards the finish but adds a great spiciness that I love. The flavors play very well together and are well balanced.

Feel - Smooth full bodied very creamy with just a touch of heat.

Overall - Love this beer, great flavors dangerously easy drinking.

Can: Poured a murky cloudy brown color ale with a dark brown foamy head. Aroma of caramelized sugar, cinnamon and orange zest with some toffee notes is interesting and unique. Taste is also a good mix of caramelized malt, toffee notes with some residual sugar notes, some cinnamon and some orange zest. Cocoa and vanilla are harder to detect but can be noticed. Body is super full with good carbonation and alcohol is not overly detectable. Enjoyable beer though unique and complex with loads of different flavours.

The beer pours a really nice looking brown head that dissipates quickly but still leaves a good mocha brown head around the inside of the glass. The beer itself is a nice black color with a brown hue to it.

The smell is damn good and strongly resembles pudding. It has a good baker's cocoa that mixes well with the stronger sweet figs and vanilla. The cinnamon is light and doesn't come out very well and I can't really see the orange zest in all of this.

The taste is pretty good and a bit more interesting compared to the smell. The same notes come out with the orange zest and cinnamon fully popping out to make things a bit spicy compared to the smell.

The feel is good. Although, it's a bit light for the style and a bit more carbonated than one will expect.

Overall, a pretty good and intense beer that's worth getting one's hands on.

Lots of fig and malt in this one. Very strong with alcohol. Body is too thin for my taste. Overall, it has a rich pleasant flavor, but the other qualities diminish the whole.
