poured with a huge white head over an orange tan body. Loved the lengthy grassy notes and cleanness on the palate.

Less hop than anticipated, but not a bad thing

If there is such a thing as a session Saison, this it!

First beer tasted from the International Beer Collector December Series.

A - Awesome dark honey cloudy hue. With a decent head that retains well.

S - Candied sugar and some malt

T - Rather disappointing. Slight citrus and grapefruit with some malt but a little too sweet for me

M - No issues here, just about nailed the medium body and medium carbonation.

O - Two critical elements very well done, but the two most critical elements disappoint.

Fruity and spicy nose with a suggestion of light horse blanket, grain and malt. It pours hazy gold with a very rocky persistent head that produces thick lace. On the palate nice sweet fruit flavors with earthy hop bitterness on the end with a little chalk in the finish. Above average carbonation, very fine bubbles, medium body.

Solid Saison from husband and wife brewers. I find it sad many reviewers are complaining about this beer as not being "saison" like. Style nazi's are the worst slime around. This brewery and this beer featured in the seminal book on Saison Farmhouse Ales by Phil Markowski. He dissects the style and this ale is quite traditional. The recipe dates back to 1895. So to reviewers out there this is a Saison through and through. You are actually tasting what a drinker in 1895 would have been drinking at this brewery minus some stronger wild yeast notes. Time to put away the BJCP guidelines because it causes many Americans to look like fools.

Realizing the range, depth and variety that have historically been found in the farmhouses of southern Belgium and northern France; Des Geants exploits that array with a distinctly un-saison-like ale.

Its uncharacteristic dark rudish garnet hue depicts a firm yeasty haze and a creamy, low-lying tarnish head. Looking more of a Belgian dubbel ale, the nose picks up on much the same with confectioner's sweetness, dark dried fruit and mild port vinous nuances. Its early taste fare similarly with succulent hard candy flavors.

The middle unfolds as the fruited sweetness of plum, blackberry, currant, fig, date and red grape wrap around the tongue with decadence. Its peppery balance is brought to life as its espressive carbonation breaks loose the sweetness and carry above the palate, leaving an acidic carbonic bite behind.

Semi-sweet and semi-dry in closure, its medium-light body exits the mouth with a thin candied film on the tongue, lingering with peppercorn, tarragon and dry cabernet.
