355ml can, the 'Kentucky' (sigh) Bourbon barrel-aged version of their Ichorous stout, with toasted coconut, and aged for 198 days.

This beer pours a solid black abyss, with very faint amber basal edges, and two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly brown head, which leaves some waves crashing on shoreline rock lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of semi-sweet, gooey caramel malt, some toasted coconut and rich milk chocolate that is almost evocative of Bounty candy bars, a soft Bourbon County whiskey barrel essence (vanilla and boozy rye grain, for the most part), subtle anise spice, and some plain earthy, leafy, and dead floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, treacle, bittersweet cocoa powder, muddled and stale copra, still understated Bourbon notes - more vanilla and generic rye graininess - black licorice candies, and more very tame leafy and gently perfumed floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite meek in its barely-there frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess seeping in as things warm up a tad. It finishes on the sweet side, with the caramel and chocolate predominating.

Overall, this is one of the more pleasant Bourbon-aged big-boy stouts that I have yet to come across, as the barrel character is subdued, but not lacking, the guest coconut equally genteel, and the 23-proof and change alcohol not exactly making a nuisance of itself. Great stuff, guys, and keep up this kind of thing, even if you are getting those trendy foeders you always wanted!

I don't like coconut and this is still one of the best barrel aged stouts I have had.

Pitch black with mocha head.

Heavy smell of Bourbon and oak with some sweet hints on malt.

Thick on the mouth with strong coffee and caramel flavors very subtle coconut adds some welcomed freshness. This might be even better as it mellows with age.

This Bourbonized version of Ichorous is truly a special beer. The barrel aging adds aroma, flavor and depth to an already impressive beer. As I slowly sipped and enjoyed, I was reminded that this could easily be my favorite style of beer. It's rich, it's potent, and it's absolutely worth seeking out.
