PedigreePedigree
Notes: Introducing Pedigree, or “P” as it was first known. Strange that looking back. Anyway, it has a fascinating aroma. Palate of biscuit malt, spicy hops and light fruitiness. It was renamed in a staff competition back in George Peard’s day. He was our head brewer back in the day. Cheers George!

Had on tap. Pours clear, copper in color with one third inch head. Taste is pale English malt, caramel, drak bread and earth. Medium light bodied, moderate carbonation, and sweet. Makes for a really good English bitter.

Bottled ale is my daily tipple. I'm not overly fussed about colour, "feel" etc. and don't think of myself as a beer aficionado but I AM fussy about taste. I thought I'd try this because it was cheap and then found out why. I've had more flavour from supermarket canned lagers.

Bottle. It is almost two years out of date, so bare that in mind.

Pours clear nice head that lasts. Good carb.

Light aroma, toffee, stewed apple. No hop aroma remains.

Taste adds a touch of burnt sugar. Some bitterness remains. No hop flavour at all.

Good mouthfeel.

Overall i was surprised just how well this bitter held up. Yes it shows its age from oxidation, but not unpleasant as I was expecting.

L: Quite a cloudy/hazy look due to the bottle conditioning, golden amber colour, decent initial head, some lasting lacing
S: Earthy notes, perhaps a bit of cucumber, citrus peel, bread roll, spices
T: Mild citrus, vegetable notes, pleasant bitterness at the back
F: Low-medium bodied, very drinkable

Kind of a dull pale reddish ale, with light cereal and roasted malt feel.

Had Marston's Pedigree Amber Ale in the Beer Garden and in the very pub-like Bar & Restaurant of The Bank House Hotel, Uttoxeter, England, on draft into Marston's Pedigree logo pint tumbler.

Pedigree pours a deep amber with clarity, and a very attractive creamy half-finger head, leaving a coating of lace down the glass. Aroma and flavor are primarily of mild caramel malt, and the beer drinks smooth and sweet before a mildly drying but not bitter finish. A classic example of an English Pale Ale, from the oldest brewery in the town where English Pales were born.

I've been picking these up from the bargain bin for three weeks now at my local Lidl. Seems my majority muslim neighbours don't like their English ales. Opening one or two after work. No expectations, thought it was a Lidl contract brew.

Develops a nice caramel coloured head for a Brit, but looks a bit like liquid soap foam.
Very faint odours, need to inhail deep to get any sensation. I get some malty caramel, clearly sweet and herby.
Colour is a copper red seethrough.
Taste is weak. sweet caramel tries to mask a metallic sensation. Upcoming aftertaste saves this beer. Becomes drier, more bitter and hints of yeast. Resembles the sensation in the mouth after eating hazelnuts.
Aftertaste is dry and bitter hops, bit of yeast, with malty caramel playing as wel. Not unpleasent at all.

Perfect for an afterwork drinker in front of the tv.

Cerveza de color ámbar, con una pequeña cabeza espumosa. Aroma a malta, naranja y un poco herbáceo. Al beberla tiene un sabor agridulce, un poco seca en su final.

Bottle conditioned, so a careful pour.
Pretty dark amber color, no head.
Caramel aroma, some sweet fruit, floral hops.
Taste follows the nose. Mostly caramel, faint cherry, late mild hop bitterness.
Light-bodied, easy drinking.

Pours a clear, deep golden amber coloration with a small, creamy head. Smells of sweet, grainy, caramel malt and lighter grassy, herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet, grainy, caramel malt and lighter grassy, herbal hops, with lighter notes of toffee, dark fruits and just a hint of coffee. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grainy, herbal notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Quite a decent brew with a good balance and complexity, yet remains quite easy-drinking.

A: Amber, slightly hazy, small tanned head faded quickly, not much lacing.

S: Earthy, barley.

T: Slightly sour cooking apples gave way to lingering, bitter finish.

M: Low carbonation, medium body.

O: A solid bitter, not particularly memorable.

The label says it's an amber ale, BA tells me it is an English Bitter... it is 4.5 and luckily enough this one is a bit less watery than its common counterparts, although this one is also watery in it's character - is this how English Bitters are supposed to be? Slightly bitter and more than medium carbonated, and though malty and biscuity, it is somehow a bit dry in the end. Not bad, but by now I know that English Bitters aren't my favorite type of beer...

Can't tell how fresh the bottle was but there was not the slightest amount of hoppiness or bitterness in this beer. The aroma is of honey and the taste is much like water with honey and some bubbles. Not appetizing at all.

Marston's Pedigree Amber Ale | Bottle | 4.5%

Bottle conditioned. Brewers says to look for biscuity hops, spice & fruit.

L3.
Amber as described. Not much else to say.
S3.75
Very subtle. Sweet & malty, like a friendly bourbon.
T2.5
No huge flavours. Hops come through slightly. Rather bland.
F2.5
Watery somehow.
O3
Pretty drinkable but lacking character. Not getting the promised spice or fruit, but the hops do shine through.
