16 oz. can poured into Trillium Six States glass and allowed to warm.

L: No head to speak of, no retention, just a thin light brown ring. Beer is very dark brown or black.

S: Caramel, caramel cookies (!), roasted malts, cocoa. I don't really get any brininess, but that's OK.

T: Big notes of caramel and cocoa with roasted malts. I really didn't catch much in the way of saltiness. Fairly sweet. ABV very, very well hidden.

F: Full-bodied, little to no carbonation. Construction is complex and right on the mark and it is well-balanced and drinks as well as something of this ABV can. Slightly warming, but no real alcohol heat.

O: Almost a Trillium-class dessert stout, really very good.

Appearance - The black stout poured with plenty of brown floaties at the top of the pour.

Smell - The caramel only comes through lightly in the nose, balanced with dark malts.

Taste - This is a beer that delivers on the promised adjuncts. Real caramel taste came through initial with actual salt. Dark chocolate malts followed in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - The beer had the rich full body one expects from Hubbard’s Cave.

Overall - This is the best caramel beer I have had.

2019-1 batch. Black body with tan ring that slowly fades away. Smells has toasted salted caramel, nougat, vanilla cream, and milk chocolate. Very pure caramel flavor, sweet no doubt but it should be! Huge caramel takes on the salt, vanilla, and faint chocolate but still dominant flavor by far. Feel is sweet but not all the way to syrupy, thinner not thin, and avoids cloying.

9/16/18 (Niles, IL): $8.42 12 oz snifter 12.5% ABV draft pour into wine glass at Une Annee Brewery. Pitch black pour, no lacing. Light malt and caramel aroma. Sweet caramel taste, nice malt taste, salt noted, nice blend. Nice mouth feel and texture, very smooth drinking. Overall very good offering.

16 oz can

Pours opaque black, tan film for a head.

Aroma is of caramel, chocolate, cookie, pecan and vanilla.

Flavor is cocoa, caramel, maple, pecan, hazelnut, raisin, sea salt and cookies.

Full chewy body. Light tingly carbonation and a bit numbing. Warms a bit in the belly.

Very rich dessert beer. The flavor is sweet and potent. Drinks slow and smooth. Worth trying, very tasty, but heavy and not for everyone.
