Jet black body with a small brown head that quickly fades. Smoky chocolate, vanilla, date, and malt in the smell. Taste has big semi-sweet chocolate, with accenting vanilla, dark fruit, slight coffee, warming booze and smoke. Feel is thick, lush, and dark, but does teeter on the edge of booze burn as it warms

Appearance - The beer poured an inky black color with a mocha colored head.

Smell - The nose had no lots of fresh ground rich coffee.

Taste - The initial impression was rich coffee. It was almost like melted ice cream with a marshmallowy texture. Notes of black licorice and a little spice follow toward the back with a slight warming sensation was also present.

Mouthfeel - The beer was so smooth, it was almost like nitro.

Overall - Without any sexy adjuncts, this stout what’s up very well.

16oz can, 12% ABV, label is dated 2019-1. Thick black body with a thinner brown head. Boozy aroma with plenty of dark chocolate; vanilla and roast in the background. Sweeter flavors, very boozy, lots of chocolate and vanilla; caramel, toffee, coffee, nutty grain, and modest earthy hops round out the flavors. Sweet & sticky full body, modest carbonation, sweet finish with chocolate lingering. Good but it's on the too sweet side for me.

Excellent head retention, dark and muddy. Sweet malty smell with a slight tangy buzz underneath. Roasty malt taste with a mildly sweet vanilla flavor. Full mouthfeel with a mild oiliness.

Looks and smells excellent. Lots of lacing with a thin cocoa head. Nose is plenty of roasty notes with hints of cocoa, coffee and caramel. Taste is the Achilles' heal, it's just too sweet and hurts the balance. Feel is well done, light on carbonation but not flat. If it was a bit drier to match the nose, it would be so good. If you're into sweet stouts this will be up your alley.

Drank from a 1 pint 9.4 fl oz (750ml) bottle purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA
2018-2
Served in a tulip

Viscous, dark brown/black appearance. The oily looking body was topped by a small, finely beaded, saddle brown head that rose to be just shy of a finger tall. Within seconds, the crown fell to a thin collar. A few tiny streaks of lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was pretty uneventful. Malty and slightly sweet with a touch of wet paper-like oxidation. Moderately roasty. A bit smoky. The oxidative notes intensified as the beer opened up.

The flavor profile was drastically different from the nose. Super malty and sweet. Nice melding of caramel and roasted malts. Huge brown sugar presence. Loads of mocha too. There was a strong maple-like quality as well. Bit of vanilla. More roast on the back end and the finish. A touch of oxidation also showed up here. Notes of roasted malts, earthy hops and brown sugar lingered after the swallow.

Outstanding creamy, viscous mouthfeel. Completely full bodied for the style. This reminded me of heavy whipping cream. The liquid contained an ultra fine, zippy effervescence that turned super fluffy on the palate.

Accident In Hubbard's Cave is really enjoyable beer and one of the best (and only) non-barrel aged and/or adjunct-infused imperial stouts I have tried in quite a while. Nice to see a brewery doing an impressive take on the style without the usual bells and whistles.
