Banana stouts are popping up around here in Chicagoland, but I think this is the best I have had to date. The smell and taste are laced with banana, though as it warms it has some banana candy elements added in the taste, where in the smell is stays more pure. Milk chocolate, vanilla, and malt are the other flavors for both smell and taste, everything binds together seamlessly. Body is medium, smooth, and has a touch of booze here and there. The best of the pot de creme series thus far

my buddy said it best, "talk about a banana in your tailpipe!" i have to confess i dont really know what he meant there, but i fully concur. there is a ton of banana to this, it almost cant be real, like an added flavor syrup to a coffee drink, not that its sweet or fake tasting, its actually remarkably natural, but that its this robust, and pungent enough to stand out like this in such a dark and strong stout, makes me think it cant be whole fruit, but i could well be wrong. it really does smell and taste like a chocolate covered banana, ripe and sweet, with a real pronounced milk chocolate complexion coming through the darker malt as well, more than enough sugar in this to balance the bitter roasted grain, and in fact, the adjuncts run away with this a little bit, certainly more than i have noticed in other iterations of this beer. its hard not to be impressed with the flavor, it really tastes like i imagine this dessert tasting, real mushy banana, cooked sugar, vanilla bean, milk chocolate, but even sharing the can around a few ways this felt like too much, way more from the sugar than the alcohol, and it was a hard one to drink for me. i also tasted it forever, burped up banana even in the morning after having this, and while i appreciate it, im not sure i personally love it, if that makes sense. banana is a weird beer ingredient, and i think they have done it quite well here, but this was more of a novelty for me than something i would want to drink on a regular basis. i have not really thought that about other beers in this series...

Banana chocolate is a classic dessert combo and nicely hides the hefty 12% abv this syrupy stouts silently stashes. My girlfriend can smell the banana from the other side of the couch, but the banana flavor is balanced and not overpowering.
