Very dark brown in color, tan foam, and a slight reddish hue. The beer is appealing. The smell is nice...chocolate, vanilla, and raisin-bread. Nice stuff. Following the first few sips, a lot of spicy phenols come out. The beer is semi-sweet and has a pleasant alcohol warming. A bit yeasty...chocolate and vanilla in the flavor. Medium-full in body, with notable carbonation. This is a satisfying beer, although it could be a bit more intense in its characteristics.

Pours a deep rich mahagony brown beer with a thick and creamy foam head that seems like it'll last forever. This beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized ... so it's not 100% clear.

Faint spice, soft malts in the aroma and a massive cold banana bread nose.

Smooth mouthfeel with an upfront dose of malty dextrin sweetness, with some esters. A warming alcohol and its spice melds with a sweet herbal-like hop spice (tea-like), more distinct banana bread and phenols/clove. Hops aren't bitter at all, it's all spice and how it plays with the mouthfeel with this beer. Crisp, dry with a prickly carbonation feel. Notes of dry chocolate around the edges and some fruit that combines to create a faint chocolate covered cherry flavour. Finish leaves a "root beer" -like flavour on the palate.

A most interesting, complex and tasty Weisse Bock. The depth of spice character is amazing. Without a doubt one of the best -- within the sytle -- to have hit my palate in years!

Presentation: 16.9 oz long slender Euro style brown bottle, a bottled on date on the back label. This was bottled on 01-10-00. Thin layer of brown sediment on the bottom of the bottle stay compacted while pouring. Mystical looking goat holding an over flowing beer glass and licking the foam over on the front label.

Appearance: Deep and rich brown colour with undertones of amber, slight chill haze which is a given factor to ales. Big bubbles of carbonation rush to the top and help keep a pancake like head for the duration.

Smell: Smell of freshly cooled banana bread, bit of spicy alcohol and huskiness in the nose also. Phenols are big with waves of clove and pepper. Obviously fruity with esters to boot.

Taste: Full malty body with a medium high carbonation that brings a refreshingly and slightly harsh crispness, prickly mouth feel from the carbonation that quickly goes dry. Big maltiness with cracker and vague rye flavours. Spicy upfront with both phenols and alcohol duking it out for domination, neither prevail though they seem to meld into one spiciness that holds true far into the finish. Hops are innocent bystanders and only add the element of balance the big picture of wheat bocks. Mild yeast flavour brings some earthy flavours. Dry rounded husk seems lightly toasted and lingers far and wide. Fruitiness is strong but vague in variety, only banana and tangerine can be picked out. Alcohol starts to kick in with a peppery flavour and a warmth. After taste leans towards husky with a bone dryness.

Notes: So complex and so dry, does not seem like a 7.2% abv brew being that the warmth comes late. This is certainly big enough to wash down a juicy corned beef Ruben on marble rye layered with Swiss cheese. Even better with some long aged cheddar and whole grain crackers.

Turbid chestnut brown in hue and covered by a uniformly thick, seemingly static tan one fingered head. Ripe, sweet banana esters and mellow notes of clove phenol. Phenols take on an odd, napthalene like nature as the brew warms, but remain mild. Hint of spicy alcohol and bubblegum. Surprising note of mint chocolate in aroma. Banana laced sweetness upfront in flavor is ceded by grainy wheat tartness and mild notes of dry, powered baker's chocolate. Sweetness quickly resumes, but this time of a generic dark caramel nature. Subdued hint of raisins and chocolate emerge late. Moderately bodied, but just a touch thin in mouthfeel, lacking both the proteinaceous quality contributed by wheat and the creamy dextrins of a bock. Finishes lightly sweet and bready, but clean otherwise. An understated and tame example of the style, but flavorful enough to keep the palate interested. Tasty, but seemingly simplified in character.

Pours a two-fingered faint brown head, fades quickly and leaves no lace. Cloudy amber color, chunky bits on the bottom. Nose is raisiny. Starts sweet and raisiny, finishes tart but watery 6/27/2004 - did not finish watery this time. Very low carbonation and light bodied. $3.29 for a 500ml bottle.

Phenols in the aroma are sweet and a little off. Malty grains appear in background (at first). Seems like a little green apple quality that is off-putting. Eventually a little oxidized warmth and alcohol appear.
Brown amber, fairly clear. Head was fizzy and setted quickly.
Taste shows malt upfront that's dark and slightly fruity. Alcohol evident with oxidation and warmth in belly. NIce llong pleasing finish of malty dryness. Taste streamlines in time and as warms to a smooth stream of flavors that blend nicely.
Fairly smooth considering strength of alcohol. Moderate intensity to the carbonation.
Loses robustness in time, but overall I liked this. I still think that malt could be greater and of more intensity, but this is worth the effort.

Things I like:

Great bottle art with the cool ass goat licking up the beer spilling out of the glass.

Nice unique aroma...more doppelbock than wheaty...dark fruits (red grapes, cherries, prunes) along with molasses...

Sweet sticky flavor(but not cloying at all)....sweet malts and dark fruits again....

Low carbonation allows the flavors to jump out...

Things I don't like:

Really lacks weisse characteristics...I'd love to see the flavor of this combines with some yeasty banana and clove components.

Looks day old cola left in a glass overnight...

Final Thoughts:

Very unique...not up there with Aventius or Ramstein but a beer I would love to drink more of...

Pours a dark brownish black color. Clear when held to the light, but the darkness of the malts leave it appearing opaque otherwise. Two to three finger head dissipates ultimately leaving no residual head behind.

Aroma has notes of clove, cinnamon, wheat, banana, and bready malts.

Taste is remarkable for the strong banana and bubble gum notes - it presents like a banana bread beer, but there are certainly notes of bubblegum, clove and cinnamon cascading through this one.

Feel is full bodied with a smooth slick feel to it. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall its a really nice beer. Personally I don't enjoy the examples that tend towards the banana/bubblegum rather than the clove, but this one was well done and really a nice beer.

This beer is a scarlet red/ruby and has fine particles in suspention. Slight head laces adequately. Aroma is very sweet. Slightly smoky. Taste is pretty unique. A guttural smoke flavor accentuates the weizen-bock characteristics adequately. Taste is not like any other weiss bock I've had, but it's a decent taste. And it grows on you as you work your way through the beer. It's a great beer to try if your into experimentation. Couldn't see drinking more than one of these during a sitting however.

Dark brown color, and poured a fine, creamy head. Left good lace down the glass. A definite wheat-bier aroma; some sweetness there but mainly clove. Body was good, but a bit too carbonated for me. Big malty flavor, some spiciness and clove; dry finish. Enjoyable bier!

Cloudy reddish-brown color with a huge thick off white head that leaves a sticky lacing in my Aventinus glass. Fruity and spicy aromas of bananas, cloves and vanilla. Wheat flavor with sour apples, vanilla and bubblegum. Full bodied with a prickly carbonated mouthfeel, finishes sweet and sour. Alcohol very well hidden, very nice.

Poured into a weizen glass a deep tawny brown with some chunkies and floaties swirling in the bottom of the glass a foamy 1/2 finger tannish colored head atop fading into a creamy mass.Inviting aromas and quite complex notes of green apple and clove show thru most up front with hints of caramel and bitter chocolate as well and a lingering banana character,a nice mix of weizen and bock going on quite sweet with a bit of an alcohol zip to go along with a clovey,banana character its not boozy but the sweet alcohol has a presence.Solid nothing to complain about more of a winter season beer but its good no matter what season really.

Bottle. Found this in a supermarket in a small town in far North California. Full on banana esters, heavy yeast and clove. Spciy, with some lemon tang. Great relief to have a good whaet beer after the run of ban wheats i’ve had. Tasted more like a dunkle weisse, than a weizen bock to me. Still really elegant stuff.

500 ml botlle, as Mahrs Bräu Weisser Bock, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.2%. Slightly hazy deep brown colour, large off-white to beige head. Aroma of banana, caramel, brown bread, a hint of cloves. Fizzy mouthfeel. Slightly sweet flavour of brown bread with some caramel, hints of banana and cloves. Minimal hops. Not bad, but I hoped for something even better.

Very, very bubblegummy. Some lemon. Not as much dark malt flavor as Aventinus (or as good). Very creamy mouthfeel. Despite not making it to the level of Aventinus, it's still a good beer.

Dark brown and cloudy, with an earthy aroma. Kind of smells like raisins too.

Very yeasty, with some strong malt flavors and bitterness towards the end. One of my buddies took a sip and described it only as "teriyaki." It does seem to have a bit of a smoky flavor to it though. My first try of this style, and although it certainly isnt my favorite, it isnt bad either.

Pours a caramel like color and in fact reminds me of cola in many ways. Thin to no head is there upon pour and a few moments afterwards. Disappointing. Nose has a dark bread-like character. Rather yeasty & chocolatey on the taste. Easy drinking, much like a plain ole dunkel or dunkleweizen.

Thank you to Bierman9 for allowing me to try this solid German brew.

This Bier poured out a rich-looking, and very hazy brownish colour. The head was all talk initially, but quickly faded to a lacey ending. The aroma was very, very malty and sweet, perhaps citrus. After the first sip, I felt I may have initially over-estimated this Bier. However, about 1/3 of the way through, the aroma and flavor, specifically, the way the bready and almost chewey flavor melded together with the lemony overtones. A solid combination, and a great way to spend an early Sunday afternoon, watching Bundesliga action (Bochum at Borrusia Dortmund, in case you were wondering). A very, very good Bier.

a cloudy amber pour with a yeasty odor. i just had a little of this one as i did not like it all that much. as a weiss, it had a strong yeasty flavor, but for some reason it wasnt' overpowering. a new experience is all i really got out of this one
