A cloudy amber body topped by a foamy white head of short life. The nose is fruity giving off hints of banana and yeast. The flavor is of the same banana sense with the addition of cloves and rough spices, along with a hop component. The body is pretty decent with light to medium feel and decent crispness in the finish. Fair drinkability but a bit spicy for some palates.

Yields a bright golden color with a bubbly, big white head.
Smells of a peppery yeast profile, revealing ripe bananas among wet grass and crisp lemon peel, tied together by a pleasant tart note.
Has a very soft, medium carbonation, complimenting to the refreshing, pleasantly complex light body.
Smells of dried leaves, toffee, straw and a refreshing tart whiff. Peppery banana adds perfectly to the straw and toffee flavours, establishing a banana driven sweetness. Finishes soft, with even more straw and an aqueous silkness, while some spices still manage to cut through.
Refreshing, a bit thin and a bit too sweet with a well working, soothing finish.

A: Starts off crystal clear but gets cloudy. Large white head but not as big as I was expecting.
S: Big banana smell. Slightly vinegary. Peppy. As it warms I get lots of cloves.
T: Bananas and quite a pronounced bubblegum flavour, or something very close to the style of grapes grown in east Asia. Appears more in the finish. Bassetts Refreshers peppiness. Very dry. Better closer to room temperature. Getting a bit of citrus.
O: Love the bubblegum in this one, but I've had better. Can not wait to try this fresh in Bamberg some day.

.5L bottle:
The beer poured a darker than expected, hazy golden color that produced a rocky, dense white head, which was well retained a settled into a thin cap for the duration of the beer. The beer gave off a nice wheat, bready aroma with a very unexpected sour aroma, almost like a Berliner Weiss. The taste follows the nose almost to a T. The beer had a lighter feel (as expected), and was smooth. Overall, not sure if it is misclassed or perhaps fermented with wild yeast, but the sour aroma and taste was a little unexpected, but if you get past the sourness, a decent beer for the style.

Notes from 5/6/13. Been on a righteous hefe kick.
Foam that would settle into a rocky head gushed from the bottle when I busted the cap. Dark grainy sediment.
This beer is conservative for a hefe but refined: what's in the nose (primarily bubble gum and banana) is spot on. Candied apple flavors. A bit watery.
This one is lighter and more effervescent than Ayinger (all time fave), Weihenstaph', and the like. I like a little more decadence in a hefe, but it's a pleasure to test the variance in one of my favorite styles.

Gravity cask at Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn NY
A - Hazy yellow pour that has plenty of foam at first, but zero retention. Cloudy look from yeast sediment in the glass. Lacing is in thin rings.
S - Citrus scents hit the nose, as does a mild hoppy smell. Fresh cloves and banana show up as the beer warmed.
T - Some light grains and the yeast make this feel hearier than you might think. Spicy finish from spices and earthy hops. Minor amount of sugar but more of a tartness.
M - Raspy feel on the tongue. Fresh and clean finish. A very refreshing beer that I can only imagine being in a German biergarten and kicking back.
O - Not my favorite Hefeweisen (and with options like Weihenstephaner not the best import either) but a good example of what Germany enjoys regularly. I've enjoyed the sampling I've had fromt his brewery.
