500ml bottle dated brewed-on 2/4/2004.

Poured an almost clear golden yellow. A few inches of soapy white foam rapidly subsides to a film and no lace. Smells sweet and grainy; perhaps a touch of banana and honey, but not much else. Very thin and only slightly carbonated in the mouth. Tastes quite bland; honeyed grainy sweetness with a slightly astringent metallic finish.

Hazy dull yellow. No carbonation is evident. Thin froth of dirty white sits on top. Lace is minimal. Aroma is a little phenolic. Sweet. Banana. Spicy. Notice the taste is tangy and a little phenolic right off the bat. The tanginess to this extreme I could do without in my hefes. Some sour pineapple accents. Spritzy mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Not a hefe I'd return to.

bottle that i mixed and matched into a six pack at city wide in south bend. looks ok...a bit like pee but i use that only as a visual analogy, not a description of the quality of the beer (as so many others do). massive banana ester odor. very sweet smelling and fresh. wheaty, banana taste goes down easy...kind of like drinking a banana soda. i really like bananas though so this is good. refreshing too...tasty. solid mouthfeel. actually too banana-y to drink tons of because that would get old fast. i think its a good beer to have after you've already had a beer.

Cloudy golden color with a large foamy, sticky head. Lots of lacing. Really sticky looking and nice. Aroma is strong on yeasty phenols with bananas and cloves as well as some citirc tannin notes. Taste is fruitier and more herbal than the aroma would lead me to believe. The body is dry throughout. Soft notes of spice linger in the background. Lots of banana in here as well. Some bitter orange notes cut through the finish. Quite an extraordinary offering from a fine brewery. Maybe I'm just sick of these oversweet wheat beers we have in America but the dryness and spice this beer had to offer was terrific. I could easily session this.

I've got a little renewed interest in this style lately, and in my book Mahr's can do no wrong, so I picked this up the other day. Vibrant orange, fading to a bright yellow around the edges of the glass. Big and foofy white head, long lasting. Crazy scents coming off this one: plenty of citrus zest, lemons and oranges, with a nice fruity banana vibe as well, and some sweet and savory spices, pepper and cinnamon. Taste is plenty complex too, with plenty of those qualities previously mentioned transfering over to the taste. It's always disappointing when a beer smells good but then the taste falls short, as I often find in hefs, but this one comes through all the way. Lots of sweet banana bread, lemon rind, spicy clove and an herbal hop boquet meets a sticky, doughy, wheaty, pile of malt. Definitely on the meaty side. I think it's a seasonal thing, and I'm itching for this spring weather to really turn over, and a nice refreshing heffer is just alright with me this time of year.

Unfocused ripe banana with sheets of bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. The head is cotton white, large-bubbled, rumpled looking and nicely sticky. Thin bridges of foam run from head to glass and leave meandering strands of lace when they break. I prefer yeast-riddled hefe weizens, but this one clears within seconds of each pour. I've seen better.

The nose is well above average for the style and definitely isn't shy. It's moderately heavy on the sweetened banana esters with a complementary amount of clove spice. There's also a musky hoppiness that adds olfactory interest.

Things aren't quite so wonderful on the palate. For one thing, the beer is too sour. I don't mind a little (or even more than a little) wheaty tang, but this one is sour to the point of being lemon juice-like. Thankfully, the weizen character isn't lost, but it is wandering around and refusing to ask for directions.

A little more wheat malt would help matters. Banana isn't nearly as noticeable in the mouth as it is in the nose, so I'm going to go with a hefe weizen banan-o-meter score of 2.0/5.0. When lemon fruit fights monkey fruit for supremacy, you know the yeast strain is something less than world-class. There's isn't much clove either; further evidence of a less than kick-ass yeast strain.

I like my hefe weizen mouthfeels to be creamy above all else... and this one isn't. That's the main reason why I asked for more malt in the previous paragraph. It's light-medium for the style with no sense of expansiveness. It's saved, however, by a lightly coating finish and by an acceptable amount of carbonation.

Mahrs Brau beers, in my experience, have been uniformly good, though nowhere near great. Mahr's Weisse follows the path trod by its forebeers, although 'good' may be stretching the truth just a little. There are many, many German hefe weizens that I'd grab before this one.

The beer pours a hazy light gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a light wheat and pale malt scent along with a slightly fruity yeast aroma. It doesn't have a very intense banana scent; more of a clove smell. The taste is decent. It has a very citousy flavor that goes down easy and refeshes, but isn't exactly what I'm looking for in a hefe. It has interesting earthy finish. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a pretty decent brew, but there are plenty of better ones available.

Poured from a .5L bottle, this German brew had a rich, golden color with a medium sized head and on-going carbonation. The smell was of traditional Hefe's: bananas, wheat and earth. The taste was pleasant, but sharper than I had expected; with a long, lingering aftertaste. The mouthfeel was a bit on the lighter side, but that only added to this beers' easy drinkability.

.5 L bottle. Mahr's Weisse pours out a cloudy yellowish color with a small head. The aroma is wheat with bananas and apples. Thick wheat flavor with nutty yeast. Just a little bit of apple and lemon fruitiness. Lots of clove and pepper spiciness. Some sweet caramel flavor too. Finishes dry and a little hoppy. The mouthfeel is creamy. This is a delicious weisse, crisp and refreshing. I could easily drink 3 or 4 bottles.

Beautiful head, very creamy. Yellow orange colore, quite clear, very hazy. Some greenish effects. Good appearance.
At the nose light banana, cloves, wheat. Not bad, just a little sweet. After a while, light citric, e lighltly acidolous.
Very citric at the taste, and lightly acidolous. The sweet is under. In somewhat, not well amalgamated. Sour cream.
Maybe the smell is a little better, but overall, it is not well amalgamated. Ties.
Acidolous in the aftertaste, and lightly tart.

Muddy, brownish-yellow appearance, without much head.

Spicy clove odour, with a touch of fruity esters.

Has a slight spicy taste, with a bit of fruit... though the flavours seemed a little muddied as well. The flavours were there, but they didn't stand out.

Light mouthfeel. Could be a good session beer... though it wasn't all that thirst quenching.

Cloudy honey-gold with a moderate white head settling to a ring.

Wonderful smoky, spicy nose. Banana and clove. Quite tempting.

Light spritzy mouthfeel. Sweet to start, gentle yeast or breadiness, citric tartness to finish. Pretty easy drinking beer, maybe a little too gentle but interesting across the board and worth a try.

The pure scent of yellow banana belies a lean, tangy and dry taste. Despite this beer's forceful grip of chalk and lemon on the palate, it oozes a glycerin-rich texture. The color is a light yellow/gold, lighter than most boutique Bavarian wheats to be found in this market. The top is noisy and seltzer-like in durability. Mineral and alkaline floral aromatics leverage deeply savory impressions of dry cider and sourdough. Nutty, herbal notes tease the tart finish.

Fans of fruit-cocktail flavored wheat beers can pass on this one. Fans of traditional lambic, cidre, Berliner Weisse and Gose won't want to miss it.

Hazy light greenish yellow cast with a big and active charge and a very white-colored head. Leaves very little lace at all. Aromas of pineapple and estery dusty cinnamon and clove. Lightish mouthfeel, made more so by very spritzy and lively carbonation. Flavors of cotton candy, leaning toward a spiced bubblegum sense with a citrusy background. Solid yeastiness throughout. Tangy finish, elements of continuing esters into the full aftertaste. Refreshing and relatively true to style, could use slightly more body and fewer bubbles for my normal tastes in Hefeweizens.

Pours with a one-finger white head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Cloudy amber color and some yeast left in the bottle. Light bodied and light-medium carbonation. Nose is slightly malty. Starts cidery - different for a wheat, prickly finish, better as a summertime beer. $2.25 for a 500ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

50 cl, Bottled 06/01/04. Pours a clouded golden orange-yellow color with a big white head that is lasting for a good while. Some sweet malted wheat, banana and lemony citrus esters and plenty of clovey phenols. Light tartness in the finish, sweet wheat malt up-front. Lots of esters and phenols. Delicious. One of the better hefes I've had recently. Extremely smooth and satisfying, especially on this warm, sunny afternoon.

The bottled date on the back of the bottle just has the number "two". I have no idea what that means. Mahr's Weisse has the typical cloudy golden wheat color of a hefeweizen. Head is fairly large at first, but doesn't stay around as long as some hefes. Carbonation is moderate. The aroma is moderately strong and clovey. The taste is very good with no element really dominating. A tasty mix of wheat taste, cloves, banana, lemon, and spiciness greet my palate. Everything is nicely balanced, yet interesting. This one stands out from the few hefes that I've had and is entirely too easy to drink.

Misty harvest moon juice secretes aromas of washed rind brick cheese, preserved lemons and wheat crackers. A draught is spacious and playful as it skips across your buds leaving prints of easy citrus peel and cream puff. I'm not what you'd call a wheat beer enthusiast but I'll readily admit the Mahr's Weisse is a lighter sort and certainly one I'd choose to down over other standard wheat drinks.

Pours a hazy yellow-gold topped with a two finger creamy white head, leaves webs of lacing, fully cloudy with the yeast swirled and added in.
Lemon, and slightly spicy aroma, grass and wheat, light vanilla, clove.
Similar in taste, lemon zest, wheat, grass, citrus and clove.
Light and crisp, easy drinking.

A nice find, to be sure. The more I try this style, the more I am learning to appreciate its nuances...

This straw yellow brew - yet rather murky - left a vigorously bubbly head upon a solid pour from the bottle. The aroma was filled with fresh-cut wheat, some hints of citrus. Chewy in its wheat texture, this one was a pleasure to sample. Paired well with a Bockwurt and some spicy German mustard...

Prosit!

Pours a very pale straw color with plenty of yeast haze. The head is typically enourmous for a hefe, and it lasts the entire glass. Peculiarly theres no lace at all. The aroma is fragrant wheat malt, some banana esthers and lots of lemon and other fruits. The taste is very boldly citrusy with that nice hefe banana flavor but very little clove. It seems a little unbalanced. The malt is also a little thin. The mouthfeel is medium and almost gooey, that sound crazy but I cant think of a better discription. Maybe theres tonnes of wheat malt in this or something. Overall this is an OK Hefe, though not the best one Ive tried, probably the worst one actually.

This wheat beer from Germany is a very pale yellow offering with a very short crown leading to a very thin ring.
The body is a medium and the carbonation is very light.
The added cloudiness to this product makes it a very unappealing brew to look at, let alone consume.
The nose is lightly yeasty.
The taste is very sweet and lingering.
I did not enjoy this brew...nor is it close to my favourite style...others think highly of it.

Pours a hazy apricot color with a 2" head that was slow to drop any (a dirty glass is suspected) eventually dropped to 1/4".
Smell is sweet, orange, malt, and grapefruit.
Taste Is grapefruit & orange, malty, earthy with an alcohol presence late.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a light effervescence all over the mouth and a slight warming in the throat.
Drinkability is very high. Good flavor (could use a bit more though) & balance with no downsides at all.

This brew is a hazy orange brew, with a big white head on top. Nice banana and lemon scent, the usual german hefe. The traditional flavors are all present, a little more lemon zest than the banana end. Nice wheat malts, yeast, not the best out of all the german hefes, but its damn good.

Appearance: Hazy peach golden hue very carbonated brew that forms a large white head that dwindles down leaving fine scattered lacing. Aroma: Sharp citrus with banana esters with the malted wheat making a mark on the senses as well. Taste: Great overall flavor perfect mix contains every characteristic that I love about weizens sharply sweet wheat notes with banana, clove, and some citrus notes adding to the harmony of flavor. Mouthfeel: Light medium bodied with spritzy carbonation. Drinkability: Definitely one of the most drinkable hefeweizens I've imbibed on.
