50cl bottle poured into Spaten seidel

BBE 25 March 2013

A- Mahongany body with excellent clarity. 3 finger creamy tan head produces good lacing and retention, leaving a solid crown.

S- A little toasted malt and yeasty tang as noted by previous reviewers.

T- A little metallic munich toasted malts with that yeastiness coming through. A litle doughy with a touch of hop bite in the lager clean finish. Overall flavour profile is there but a bit weak.

M- Thin mouthfeel with a moderate carbonation.

D- Forgettable stuff really. Flavour/aromas are there but just too faint.

Half liter bottle poured into a mug at the brewery in Bamberg! Always happy to try a new dunkles, especially when it’s made by a brewery of this stature. Rich, roasty, chocolatey malt bill with superb drinkability. A strong finish that coats the mouth with charred, roasted malt, and even a bit of smoke. I was warned by the server that it’s a strong beer, likely in regards to its flavor, which is funny but probably because she knew I was American. Big flavors for such an approachable body and clean feel, but that's why this has been one of my favorite styles while living in Germany.

Had a 0.5l glass of this at Mahr's on 27SEP21.... Cost was €3.80.

It was a dark, clear, deep chestnut color, with some garnet/ruby highlights. Up top was a creamy, frothy beige head. It kept the beer covered well, and had nice lacing. Nose had light caramel and hints of a nutty character. Body was near medium, and it was decently smooth.

Flavor added more caramel to the palate, with a touch of brown sugar. was almost like the brown sugar had been caramelized. Had a smidge of choco but was hardly showing any hopping at all. Not bad.... Prosit!

picked up a bottle from that nice off license on baggot street, i regrettably picked up a bottle from the shelf not realising there was some in the fridge, think this may have been sitting there a while, doesn’t taste overly fresh, probably not giving this beer a fair review as a result but it’s what we have, lovely looking beer anyway, chestnut brown with one finger off white head, aroma is bready and malty, nicely sweet too, malteasers and caramel, nice chocolatey flavours, brown bread, ovaltine, toffee and caramel, slight nutty character, light bitterness on the finish, beer is light bodied with medium to high carbonation, thin, all in all it’s a nice enough lager for a cold wet autumn night, but i feel like it could be a lot nicer

A fantastic,rich,quaffable Dunkel.
Surprisingly takes more after a Munich Dunkel rather than a Franconian Dunkel.

De Mikkeller webshop. En copa hefe de Bavaria. Con papas fritas Moyano. Jugando a Eventide 3. Dunkel más corpulenta de lo habitual, con cierto toque a galleta y excelente sensación en boca, llenándote la a la vez incitandote a darle el siguiente trago

Many thanks to Snowcrash000 for this bottle.

A - Deep chestnut brown color with nice clarity and creamy, frothy off white lacing and foam.

S - Nutty, plumbs, and dark fruit.

T - Plumbs and dark fruit from start to finish with a subtle toasted malt base and ends balanced.

M - Robust body, silky viscous texture, and a wet finish.

O - This beer is much more deserving than it's current 3.73 overall score.

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.0%. Beautiful deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts with some caramel and notes of bakery, fair enough. The malty flavour has some sweetness, but not too much, still with distinct notes of caramel. Moderate hops, as expected from a dunkel. A pleasant dunkel to drink.

Pours a clear hazelnut brown color, with a decent, fluffy white head, which holds up for ages.

Offers a distinct, rich, whole grain bread foundation, with a potato peel sweet hint to it. A whiff of copper and wood bark, together with heated hazelnut add a nice depth to the robust malt profile of the beer.

Has a lively carbonation, while the beer remains pleasantly drinkable throughout, with a malty refreshment to it. Drinks utmost smooth, with a coppery malt finish, while not giving up on its softness.

Begins with whole grain bread, which later on gets a toasty note to it, wrapped up by a soft minerality and dry earth. While maintaining its profound bread profile, malts add a toffee hint, gently balanced by wood bark and earth. Finishes with dextrose amped up malts and a coppery quality, while earth holds the overall sweetness pleasantly low.

I appreciate the beers focussed malt character quite a bit, maintaining its rustic earth and bread character till the end, while allowing subtle changes on the palate at the same time, adding necessary depth. This results in an easy drinking Lager with enough body to it to convince my palate.
