On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,

A: Pours a deep goldenrod with a nice frothy medium head, leaving solid lace.

S: Pungent, a huge amount of bubblegum and banana, very much to style.

T: Strong bready malt backbone is there, but the yeast steals the show. Banana bread heavy with bubblegum and a hint of clove and vanilla. Delicious.

M: Great strucuture, firm on the palate, biting but easy carbonation, very easy drinking and refreshing.

O: This is a great beer and one of the best hefeweizens I've ever had. A must try in this category.

This is a different kind of weisse true to the label.Poured into a weizen glass more clear than cloudy burnt orange/amber with a large glooming crown,it has a Schneider weisse look to it with its deep richness in color.Yeasty but not over phenolic in the nose,toasty wheat malt, fruity esters,and herbal hops come thru,one of the more hoppy hefe's I have had,maybe the most hoppy from Germany.Yeasty and fruity on the palate with a tinge of iron and toasted wheat malt,again the saphir hops play a role in a herbal finish.This is a cool hefeweizen it's yeasty but clean with a nice hop presence.

Interesting beer. I was expecting a straightforward weiss beer with Saphir hops but this has some caramelish malt to it as well. It's a cloudy amber beneath a massive head of off-white foam. It looks like a light colored dunked weizen. The aroma is caramelish as well, but the typical banana and clove yeastiness is there too. What I'm not finding in the aroma are the Saphir hops. There's some, but not much. More appear in the flavor but I've never found Saphir to be more than just another floral "noble hop" with a hint of citrus added in. It has an orange and apple fruitiness to it, and, of course, banana. Other than that the Saphir doesn't really stand out, obviously hindered a bit by the firm, caramelish maltiness. In the mouth it's medium bodied and quite effervescent. It's nicely balanced if a little bit on the malty side, and it's pleasant and satiating. Definitely different, and certainly worth trying because of it.

Dark gold into copper brown colored body, very sizable head comprised of millions of tiny bubbles. Lots of sticky lace. Scent is your classic hefe, wheat, banana, some apple. Very clean and refreshing on the tongue. Very nice wheat tones, some clove, a bit yeasty. Very active from the carbonation. Tasty hefe, very refreshing after a hot-as-ballz day here.

Appearance: pours a cloudy orange yellow color with some dark orange highlights. Big merangue like head lasts forever. Loads of carbonation bubbles rise quickly. Thick lace paints the glass.

Smell: banana, bubblegum, and a floral presence is very nice on the nose.

Taste: nice wheat tones with banana, floral tones, orange, bits of lemon zest, bubblegum, and a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp throughout with some dryness late.

Drinkability: very quaffable weisse beer that is a bit unique in the floral quality of the beer. Worth picking this one up.

The beer pours a cloudy, dark golden color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a very nice pale and wheat malt scent that's a bit sweet and fruity with lots of yeast esters. I know the Saphir hops are on display, but I'm not detecting them in the nose. The taste is decent. It has a solid hefe taste; pale and wheat malts, hefe yeast esters. The hops are present and provide a mild bitterness and a light flavoring. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with good carbonation. This is a pretty good beer, but I'm not crazy about it. I like my hefes traditional, not hopped up.

On tap at Max's the other day.

The beer pours a tannish honey color with very good head retention and lacing. Nose is pretty wheaty, and I don't get a whole lot of spice on this one... maybe a bit of clove and not much else. Flavors replicate the nose pretty closely, except there's a bit more flavor then I was expecting from the aroma profile (thankfully). I get some significant bubble gum, clove and spice, which is pretty nice. Mouthfeel is medium boided at most, and drinkability is pretty good.

While nothing special, this was still an easy to appreciate and enjoy German wheat beer.

This is apparently a new beer from Mahr's. I had this particular beer on draft at a beer bar in Baltimore. Beer is yellow (dark) almost amber and a lot of haze. It forms a thick white head made up of small to medium bubbles. Lacing is really high as the head falls away and as I drink it. Carbonation is moderate to high. Looks like a beautiful wheat beer.

Aroma is yeasty with definite esters. Lots of banana and some apple flavors in the aroma for sure. There is a wheaty smell to this beer as well. Overall, I would like some more esters and less wheat in the nose but it was still a great smelling beer.

First, drinkability super high. This beer is wet (not dry) completely clean finish. There are nice fruity notes, mostly bananas, in the midpalate. Not much up front but some wheat based bitterness t the back. A slight aftertaste, overall a great beer.

I really enjoyed this beer.

500 mL bottle, no date.

Murky, orange-amber colored with a thick, creamy, white head. Sparse lacing. Interesting aroma, getting a lot of green apple with mild banana and clove. Fruity flavor, mostly apple or pear, with a bit of spice at the end. The yeast is definitely strong in this one. Lively carbonation, yet very soft and smooth on the palate. Medium bodied. An unusual hefeweizen overall, I'm not too into it. I definitely prefer them to be a little lighter in body and color without any hop presence.

Par for the uneven, oddly laid-out course. I recently conducted a horizontal of Mahr's beers, only to discover this one on the shelf after the fact! Grr. Ah, well, no time like the present, as my Pappy always liked to say.

From the bottle: "

I cannot envision a more agitated beer. It is a Hefeweizen, but when I chilled it, I noticed a heavy sludge of lees on the punt! Knowing that this would never do, I agitated it repeatedly to get the yeast back into suspension. Of course, this nearly caused the cap to Pop! off of its own accord, so I had to allow it to settle again before I Pop!ped the cap. Once accomplished, I upturned the bottle (!) into a large Weizen glass that I keep on hand for just such occasions. Man, did the foam come up! I had over three fingers of foamy, light-tan head that rose up & sat back down, becoming soapy wisps. The color was a muddy, murky, Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17). Nose smelled like a monkey was down a sewer pipe, having bananas for lunch. The reference to sewage had to do with the color, not the smell. Mouthfeel was rather thick & full, just what I needed after breakfast. Is it too early to begin blowing chunks? The taste was reminiscent of one of my earliest successes as a budding baker. I was taking Basic Foods (Foods 1) in HomeEc in high school & my kitchen forgot to secure our bananas for a Jell-O mold properly (we were actually pretty good for that sort of thing). Here comes the Thanksgiving Break & our kitchen smells heavily of bananas. The teacher went bananas & we were tasked with finding some means of disposal (other than the S/C) before the break. I was one of the few who actually read both the textbook & the cookbook, so I hit on the idea of Banana Bread. Not only was our project approved, but each of us got to take our loaf home for the holiday dinner! This beer was like liquefied banana bread. Loads of bready yeast & malts combined to make something that would make a monkey ecstatic. Sheesh! I prefer the clove esters, but it is about the style, not about me. Finish was semi-sweet, very bready & banana-like, but not overly sweet, which would have caused self-defenestration for me. Not bad, but still, not my cuppa tea.

Great beer! Poured like a great, classic Bavarian Weiss with a huge, foamy, frothy, cream colored, thick head that lasts a long time and lots of lace. Color is a hazy to cloudy, medium amber. Sediment in the bottom of the bottle, so hefe even if not labeled as such. Aroma is classic Bavarian Weiss too- highly aromatic, spicey, banana, malt. Flavor is like aroma but the additional hop bitterness and some astringency comes out as well. Great body and carbonation. Finish is like flavor and fairly long. A bit of alcohol at the end too. Session beer.

Spotted this new one today, thought it might be a fruity blueberry/huckleberry brew due to the label design (blue hop cones). "Extra Hoppy Amber Weiss" on the back label.

Deep orangey amber, huge voluminous head that takes a few pours to let settle then top off. Plenty of sticky, sparkly suds inside the glass. The retention is excellent, it's head is steadfast with little deflation.

Typical hefe aroma, banana esters, a light minerally character, and mild background spice.

Very smooth and flavorful. Deep bready malt flavors, like fresh baked banana bread with a dusting of nutmeg. The wheat gives it a pleasant supple feel, though there is a mild apple astringency upfront. Not especially hoppy, like Brooklyn/Schneider, but a fine beer in it's own right. Tasty and quenching on a warm day.

Never seen this one before, even at the brewery. I suppose it's using the newer saphir hops instead of the traditional hallertau ones.
Pours a sandy brown color. Not a dunkelweiss, but a really dark normal one, a bit like Augustiner or Schneider. I did the "swirl" for the yeast and to create a nice head.
The nose features clove and nutmeg notes along with the ubiquitous banana note, which is milder than expected. Those new hops are definitely showcased as well.
The flavor profile isn't quite as hoppy as something like hopfen-weiss, but the hops do play a pretty big role in the flavor profile. I'd say they're an equal player with the spice and fruit character. While their normal wiessbier has a lot of vanilla cream notes, this one doesn't seem to. I think the increased hop profile likely subdues that character.
Pretty good, but certainly nothing I'd choose over their normal weiss, which I absolutely adore.
Texture seems to really fade a bit as time passes.
I like the slightly experimental direction while still staying true to the roots of the style, but as a beer it's nothing to write home about.

A - Slightly hazy orange, amber with a huge fluffy white head even after a slow pour. Sticky strings of lace remain.

S - Bready with banana and light spice in the background.

T - Fresh banana bread, light spice with some lingering herbal notes.

M - Medium mouthfeel with crisp carbonation.

D - Tasty. Bought this one to see what Saphir hops were like but don't much from the hops in this one.

Picked up a bottle at Abe's Cold Beer for $3.85. This is a pretty tasty beer, but overall it's a little too mild. The appearance is a proper hazy amber, a little darker than usual I suppose. The aroma has a slight chemical aerosol note that's off-putting at first, but that fades into a spicy floral combo. The flavor is slow to develop (that's awesome), starting with a white cake and wheat bread crust. That's followed by candy clove, orange peel and sweet banana notes that eventually falls to bittersweet, but smooth, wheat and bread notes. All in all a very bready with interesting spice and fruit notes. Heck of a brew. Reminds me a lot of SN Kellerweis.

A moderate pour brings forth a huge, dense head with an off-white color. The beer itself is moderately carbonated and a turbid orange-copper color. Unlike other reviewers, I don't notice the lacing.

In the nose, the beer has subtle hints of classic wheat beer: bananas, cloves, and light bread, with something a bit fruity and yeasty, perhaps from the combination of the Saphir hop and yeast.

I pick up, taste-wise, light bread, banana, clove, a bit vinous, hints of honey, and ripe, creamy apple or Bosc pear tastes. There's also a slight hop spiciness/sharpness/bitterness in the mid-to-aftertaste. Really nice and a new twist to the style for me.

The carbonation is perhaps slightly too high to begin with and fades gradually over time. By the time I finished this beer, I may have said there wasn't enough carbonation! The finish is not overly dry, which would be quite refreshing on a warmer day, or just satisfying at any other time.

Taste & Mouthfeel: This is so smooth and flavorful, with a light body. A little bready upfront, then melds into a mild spiciness, with that unripe banana flavor that was noted by the nose. Slight dry finish, leaving you with that numbness in the back of the throat. Aftertaste has a slight warm sweetness to it.

This is a really delicious and unique beer, one that I wouldn't mind drinking quite a bit more of if I can find it.

A - Poured out a very cloudy, orange color with golden highlights. It had a huge head of white bubbly foam that took its time settling and leaving rings of lace.

S - It smelled of banana, clove and floral notes. There were good wheat aromas, too.

T - Interesting a weizen that really brings a spicy hop bite then delivers the usual great flavors of wheat, banana and clove.

M - A super dry beer that is crisp and crackles on the tongue. Like all good hefes this is a light bodied, easy drinking brew.

D - I really like this one. The saphir hop is a nice touch. I hope it takes off.

Appearance: Poured a HUGE frothy head. I'm talking a fist worth of head! Had to wait awhile and re-pour to get some of this deliciousness into the bottle.

Smell: I'm close to a foot away from the glass and the scents are pouring out. So, as I come closer, I can detect; Sweetness and spice. A bit of unripe banana seeps through too. Oh it smells so good!

Taste & Mouthfeel: This is so smooth and flavorful, with a light body. A little bready upfront, then melds into a mild spiciness, with that unripe banana flavor that was noted by the nose. Slight dry finish, leaving you with that numbness in the back of the throat. Aftertaste has a slight warm sweetness to it.

Drinkability: Not your run of the mill Weiss and I for one applaud changing it up a bit, every once in awhile. This is a very tasty brew and my first experience with the Saphir hop and hopefully not the last.

A: The beer is cloudy yellowish amber in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high dense off white head that has good retention properties and never completely faded away.
S: There are aromas of bananas, cloves and yeast in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell, except the hops contribute citrus flavors and a light amount of bitterness. There are some hints of malty sweetness in the initial taste.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate to high amount of carbonation. There is a bit of dryness in the finish.
O: The beer isn’t quite as refreshing and thirst-quenching as compared to other hefeweizens, but the saphir hops certainly make this beer unique for the style.

I picked this up at Julio's, poured from the 16.9 chilled brown bottle into a Weiss glass.

A - After a vigorours pour that was not needed about 4 fingers of whipped white foam tops the slightly dark amber like black tea w/ a golden highlight at the base of the glass. The bead is average sized and lace clings in spots

S -The aroma has a bready and slightly spiced quality. There is a yeasty fruit scent which gives a light ripe banana ester

M - The feel of this wheat has smooth texture from malt and medium body w/ subtle sweetness. The carbonation level is medium high and a spiced tinge in the middle adds contrast to the slight tang and cream of yeast w/ dry herbal notes in the finish which feels clean

T - The flavor is very good for a late spring day - a yeasty note with mild ripe banana and subtle herbal elements from the Saphir are well blended and the flavor of the hops complements the yeast well w/ the alcohol present in the taste as well. I like the way the yeast has a bit of clove and subtle mint quality which makes the beer taste even more refreshing with the wheat very mild as the high carbonation seems to refresh the palate with each sip. A very mild pine element is noted w/ very gentle bitterness. The yeast adds a bready flavor and wheat is dry, but not quite husky w/ light peppery effect in the layered taste of all components

D - I was really looking forward to this and used a few ounces in a rice recipe which has avacodo, lemon juice and fresh basil and it worked well. The beer itself is a refreshing wheat w/ slightly added strength but still easy to quaff - A great example of the style.

On tap at the Tap & Table.
A-Nice golden color, very cloudy and a 2-3 finger head that could have held a bottle cap. Lacing was prevelant.
S-Smell was bananas but very light.
T- The taste varied from bananas, Bubble gum, oranges and lemons. There is a very small bitterness also.
M -D - Very smooth and creamy feel and as drinkable as any Hefe I've had before.
