Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Alaskan IPA is honey gold in color with a fruity, citrus aroma. An enticing blend of hops and our dry hopping process, in which hops are added directly to tanks during fermentation, give this brew a very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing hop finish.

Pours clear, gold in color with 1/2 inch head. Taste is herbal and soapy hops with some grapefruit rnd. Bitter, light bodied with moderate carbonation. Beer does taste better as it warms. Icy Bay is a really easy drinking IPAs. There are several other beers from Alaska Brewing that I prefer, but this one is worth a shot.

16 oz can with a June 2017 BB date stamp on the bottom.
Pours clear amber in color, with a creamy bone-colored head that leaves patterned lacing on the glass and has very good retention.
The aroma is evident in the pour: citrusy hops with herbal notes. The flavor follows but the herbal elements are less obvious and some bready malts appear.

Feel: medium body and lively medium+ carbonation. Crisp with a dry finish.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a standard pint glass. Hazy golden copper color, with a three-finger white head that left some nice sticky lacing. Aromas and flavors of light malt with a grassy and herbal hop character. Lots of peppery bitterness on the tongue, with a pleasantly dry finish. A very good beer overall.

Pours a nice deep golden amber that's not really hazy but not clear. Not much of a head from my pour. Smells fresh with some citrus and pine, really light smelling. Taste is hoppy with hint of both citrus and pine. Hops fade fairly quickly and a bready malt takes over on the back end.

I like this IPA, very interesting.

Bottle best by end of July, 2017:
Pours a lovely clear straw golden. Head doesn't grow too hish on a normal pour, but is still atop the beer midway through. Thickish collar with some lacing.

Nose is a crisp malt with light grain and hay, and a seemingly grassy bitterness, a light hint of spice.

A crisp, clean opening, slightly more prickly than tickling carbonation. A light lemon citrusy note with a malt prfile that reminds me of shredded wheat cereal, for some reason. The beer gets a tad strange in the middle - like it's trying to figure out where it wants to go. The grassy note from the nose wins out but it's a bit more earthy than spicy. Clean ending.

This is near the end of its freshness, I am sure, but still has a nice cleanness to it. It's borderline APA/IPA in bitterness at this point, but presumably was a little stronger in this sense when more fresh.

This was poured into a pint glass numerous times, always the same. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to yellow color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds leaving a light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer. The smell had a decent sweet to bitter citrus rind and caramel malts running in and out of each other, (separated from each other). The taste was basically the same. Bitterness doesn’t seem to blend with the malts. The aftertaste is caramel sweet to light citrus. It leaves a semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation comes across fairly harsh and the bitterness shows its face slightly. Overall, I say this was an okay AIPA, better in the taste, but wishing the aroma smelled together.

Alaskan Icy Bay IPA | Alaskan Brewing Co. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this has a three finger thick head, with solid lacing, and a deep golden body.

Smells like citrus and tropical hops.

I taste bitter and flavorful hops with a clean and refreshing hops.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I'll rate Alaskan Icy Bay IPA | Alaskan Brewing Co. with an overall 4.25
