Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Alaskan IPA is honey gold in color with a fruity, citrus aroma. An enticing blend of hops and our dry hopping process, in which hops are added directly to tanks during fermentation, give this brew a very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing hop finish.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: Bright yellow glass with a lot of haze, holds a thin white cover of foam that leaves some lacing.

Smell: Not a lot going on, a mild hop note, mild clean grainy, almost corn note.

Taste: An APA, not an IPA, the hops just aren't up to the level expected. While everything here is well made, the hops are a bit grassy and earthy where I prefer a citric note. There is a slight metallic aftertaste that is annoying as well. Finish is sweet, where I should be getting a dose of hop oils.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, prickly carbonation, bit frothy.

Overall: Not my cup of tea. There is a woody, difference about this that I could see being a love or hate kind of thing, but it doesn't do it for me.

Icy Bay is a nice sessionable IPA....little heavier than the Founder's All Day IPA...and probably more flavorful. The beer poured a clear golden with nice white head that laced nicely. The scent carried some fresh hops that leaned toward piny and citrus. The taste was an great balance between malt and hops. Starts smooth...bitterness kicks in the center then mellow again. The mouthfeel was light to medium in body with decent carbonation. Overall this is a great beer.
