Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

I had heard of this beer brewed in 2008, 2009 and 2012, and was glad to see it was back. The smell and flavors were especially great as a rich porter--the flavors were really layered, which is something I don't sense in every beer.

L - deep and black with a nice head that dissipates.
S - striking. I picked up the vanilla and the dark malts first. Then a roastiness.
T - I can really pick out the black cherry, and the vanilla, followed by dark roasts tempered by oak--and a touch of bitter hop along with that roast. Fairly sweet but overall well-balanced.
F - very smooth, silky, not overly thick--what I seek from a porter
O - it took me by surprise how well structured these flavors were ... though it probably shouldn't have, considering the care in craft and deep history of its makers at Alaskan.

Bottle from Albertsons. Pitch black pour, small, tight head. Heady roasty aroma, dark chocolate, smoky. Taste is deep and rich, feel is thick and smooth. Burnt toast bitterness, sticks around for a while. Just enjoyable all the way through.

Opaque, deep brown with light white head and sticky lacing.

Carbonation is light and the viscous body does a great job of conveying the complex flavors, the cherry overlaying alcohol, chocolate mixing with piney hops.

Pretty good but not great.

The appearance was a nice looking mostly dark brown color with a thin layer of white foaminess gracing the top of the beer. Lacing was few and far between. The smell started off with a big dark fruity mix leading to a slight chocolate and then after I gave it a good warming, light black licorice comes out and allows a decent vanilla. The taste follows the nose for the most part. Big sticky dark fruity aftertaste leading to the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. The carbonation seemed really smoothed out as the beer just seemed to roll right on off my tongue appropriately. Overall, really nice Baltic Porter, I'd have again.

Comes out dark brown, thin head, 1/3", lighter brown in color. Aroma drops massive alcohol blast, less dark fruit.

Taste brings the alcohol again, dark fruit bitterness, red wine notes, mouthfeel keeps dropping that bitterness. A little bit of anise. Just doesn't have the body to absorb this high level of relatively challenging stuff/style.

Found the bomber format to be expensive, excessive and not worthy of a repeat purchase.

Aged it for two years. More carbonation then I expected. Very nice smell with tons of sweet notes. Let beer warm up as it improves greatly.

Deep brown and thin brown head with no retention. Oak, vanilla, and notes of cherry in the aroma. Strong vanilla and oak with some cherry and chocolate sweetness. Light warming. Strong oak dryness and sticky linger.

Perhaps needing additional aging, the oak is far to strong finishing after a wonderful flavor. The oak sucks all the moisture from your mouth as well as the flavor and your left with only a woody stickiness on the lips. It's great, until you swallow.
