Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
With nearly one pound of real fruit per gallon, Alaskan Raspberry Wheat has the inviting aroma of fresh-picked raspberries and an enticing red hue. The flavor of the raspberries lends a tartness that balances the full-bodied wheat profile and malt sweetness. Bigger than most traditional fruit beers, Alaskan Raspberry Wheat adds an extra kick to its dry and effervescent finish.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Deep orange amber with slight reddish hue and a frothy fizzy tan head that quickly settles to a thin layer and leaves just a little spotty lacing.

S: Sweet raspberries dominate with just a hint of bready wheat.

T: Raspberry runs the show, a little mild wheat, a hint of honey, and just a touch of tartness. Nicely balanced, doesn't get cloyingly sweet like some other raspberry beers I've had.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Not overly complex, just a tasty easy drinking raspberry beer.

Nothing compares to a bowl fresh raspberries filled with half and half and sprinkled with sugar but since it's not the season for fresh raspberries this will do, and do quite well at that, since it reminded me of the aforementioned.
Thanks Alaskan for a good looking copper colored beer with a hint of red in it.
The tartness of raspberries comes through in all the aspects of this beer: aroma, taste, mouth feel, and aftertaste which I really enjoyed. The actual raspberry taste could a been a bit more but I would rather have less than overkill any day when it comes to fruit tastes in beer, thus with this beer you still can taste the barley malts which is a plus for any non-IPA beer (according to me).

Appearance: The slightly hazy pour reveals an amber beer with the color impacted by the infusion of raspberry; a one inch head sticks nicely and leaves spots of lacing behind

Smell: Wheat bread with raspberry tones

Taste: Moderately tart raspberry flavors take over from the outset, with just a hint of wheat bread providing the backbone; the raspberry flavor is somewhere between jam (with a hint of sweetness) and fresh raspberry and while the sweetness lingers into the finish, the overall impression is slightly tart and dry

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is one of those surprising beers - I wasn't expecting much but its flavor exceeded my expectations

Wheat smelling aroma with a hint of raspberries. Raspberry flavor right up front mixes well with the wheat profile. I'd like to see a little more raspberry flavoring. Overall a good balance with a little bitterness towards the end.

Had on tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl, Minneapolis
This has a strong raspberry aroma over hops and light wheat.
A slightly hazy reddish gold under a creamy white finely bubbled 1/2" foam cap.
Palate: big raspberry but the malt tastes a little thin with a suggestion of solvent and the tartness from the raspberries is not very noticeable. The keg or beer lines may be off.
Medium low body, medium high carbonation.
