Atop a pale yellow colored beer rests a white, quickly to leave head. Small bubbles. Aroma is almost sour with a hint of roasted cereal. Flavor has a citrus begining, a good dose of malt and roast barley, finishing with a small bitter whip, brining your tastebuds back to the starting point. The brew is a slightly watery, doesn't feel quite as full as expected. Super quaffable, awesome summer brew

I bought this because Arrogant Bastard Ale was out, so I thought I would give it a try. Just last week I was visiting an old friend, a veteran of the pre-history of micro-brewing in 1970. Now he drinks Rainier (another old story), and he offered me one. I remembered the taste. Then I got this Haymaker, and had a bottle. It tasted like Rainier. Now I don't think Bridgeport will appreciate this, but it's what I noticed. So I went down and got a 12-pak of Steel Reserve 211. If you're going to spend your money on Bridgeport, I say get their stout. This beer is too average.

I liked this beer though I thought it was pretty mellow compared to their IPA. The flavor was kind of grassy with a bit of bitterness to it. I'd say it was also a fairly clean beer and my girlfriend liked it too. Nice light gold color and a good head. We had this with pizza and it went well with our food.

This was a beer that I enjoyed for its unique flavor and aroma, but I don't know if it is something I would share with friends.

It had a fairly weak head even when poured vigorously, but there were many bubbles that attempted to make up for that deficit. In all, the appearance is nice and clear, but the color is just not aesthetically pleasing to me. To each their own!

The smell is what really grabbed me. The label says "extra pale ale", and also something about "a glass of sunshine" or something like that. I grabbed this beer hoping for a semi-sweet malty experience, and was surprised at the hoppiness. The hops almost have a smoky tone to them.

The taste itself is smoky in a way, and knowing how closely smell is associated with taste, it almost (ALMOST) has the character of a German Rauchbier, although I hesitate to characterize it as such. It just has a certain flavor to it that is ineffable. This is going to be the flavor which creates a "love or hate" situation for its drinkers.

The mouthfeel is just fine, but for those who read the label and expect a beer that is refreshing on a hot day, they may find it a little bitter. The hops do present themselves in this brew, although not as much as in Bridgeport's Hop Czar offering, which may be the result of a hop volcano exploding on their vats. It is by far less insulting to the palate than that creation, but the nose can be intimidating nonetheless.

The drinkability depends entirely on your perspective. If you like a hoppy beer, you will not hate this, but if you REALLY like a hoppy beer, you may be disappointed. It's not an IPA, it's an EPA. This seems to be a category which is not well-defined.

Overall, it is a beer with a quite unique character, and for the style it seems as though they have really diminished the malt in favor of the hops, which may seem to some as a fault, and perhaps to others as a boon. Reviewing this beer is like describing what a banana tastes like -- it's next to impossible to characterize it completely. You have to try it for yourself. It has a smoky flavor, but it is not a Rauchbier. It's not a pale ale, but it's not an IPA, either.

Not a bad beer, very light and unoffensive. Good party beer. Also good for enjoying on a picnic or something similar. Very easily drinkable, and enjoyable if you don't care to explore the complexities of beer. I'm starting to think that the IPA is the only thing really defining from Bridgeport. Could be worse, but I probably wont buy this ever again, especially as the same 7 dollars can get something much more interesting in the grocery store.

Another Great Beer from Bridgport Brewing!

This is a very light fresh pale ale.

This pale ale would be a great beer to bring people into craft beer or a great lawnmower beer.

It is a very light straw colored clear beer.
White head that quickly goes away.
Fresh smell with a hint of fruit.
Great very light taste also with a hint of fruit.
Mouth feel is maybe a bit over carbed but then again it goes well with the very light taste.

This is a great summer beer.

Give it a try if you get the chance.

From a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The apperance is a gold/ straw color that is very transparent. Cannot get much out of the nose of this beer, mabey just a little bit of hop. the taste is not bad at all, some hop and something sweet that I just quite decide what it is. the mouthfeel is very light and easy. This beer is very drinkable, but there are other beers I will drink before drink many of these. Not bad but I am glad I bought this in a mixed 6 pack and only got one.

Light in color, very refreshing, but not very complex. A very good summer session beer.
Out of a bottle, it had very little aroma and only a slight malty taste. Out of a glass it was a better experience. Nice golden color, small tight bubbles. It's aroma was earthy and it's had a slightly sweet, malty flavor. Though it is not my favorite, I'd definitely have it again.

Served in a bottle purchased at a local grocery store. Nice label good bright yellow color with a picture of a cock drinking a pint.

Got it home poured it in a pint glass. Pretty nice head about a half inch thick, nice creamy white color. Pale straw color with a nice inch or so of lacing.

Smells of straw and light hints of honey and corriander. Easy on the nose.

Taste is good very refreshing. Light hints of straw and malts. Not much maltiness. Not much after taste.

Very easy to drink. Would be a great beer for the river on a hot summer day or pretty much anything that involves sun shine and good times. The no after taste is nice because you don't need anything to wash the hoppy taste out of your mouth. It goes down easy and at 5.3%abv it comes on nice after a few in the afternoon sun.

Not the best beer from Bridgeport, but a great summer time selection.
