Pours a cloudy orange with a big two-finger head, lots of bubbles and and quite dense. Smell is fruity and quite sweet, not to mention very floral. It's definitely unique, although I don't know that I find it very appetizing. Taste is strange. Not bad per se, just different. Sweet, but strangely heavy on the swampiness. It also ends very bitter and it is a lingering bitterness, not the good kind that can wrap up a sweet taste like a cymbal crash. Other comments seem to hint that this weird mildewy sock taste is a trademark of BridgePort brews. I suppose you have to be known for something, but I am definitely not going to go out of my way to try more of this swamp juice.

hop czar is a very solid beer. a major driver for the bridgeport line. this is not a low-alcohol beer, but is somewhat modest in abv relative to other double (IIPA) india pale ales. bridgeport is interesting.

Deceptive. pours a resinous, translucent amber, and then fades to a shining, burnished copper. i... i guess it's got a shimmery, slippery, tart mouthfeel, which comes with a deep, practiced, classic hop-bricolage of a taste. Generous and sharp. For smell, naughty, sappy, actually quite unique, though not pleasant, notes fumigate off a funky, tufty, off-white head. Grapefruit predominates. Do note: maybe it's been my glasses, but on occasion this beer can fall off into a coors-y, frankenstein-esque territory halfway through, -if- you let it sit too long. at these points, i found myself motivated towards binge-y, hard hitting gulp-fests to get this one down, despite its density, and, quite frankly, quality.

Sorry for the lack of capitalization. Overall, a successful, interesting beer from an interesting brewery..

The malt backbone in this one takes over. The is also a strange astringent tea like flavour coming through that pretty much ruined this beer for me. There are many other beers that are better.

Mostly clear but semi-hazy copper with pink or yellow hues in different lighting. Head is tan, fluffy, foamy, chunky, and retains well. Lacing is pretty good. Very dank, brothy, spicy, and vegetal aroma. Hard but not impossible for me to distinguish from Bridgeport's Kingpin Imperial Red. If anything, more resin, and more orange or grapefruit character. On the palate, more spice and pepper than the Imperial Red, but overall still very stew-like. Also, somewhat piney and rindy, with a date-like sweetness. Over-steeped tea aftertaste, dry finish. Medium-bodied, medium carbonation, kind of slick, with expected amount of peppery alcoholic warmth.

S- smells alittle weird... kinda dank smelling with citrus and maybe pine. Has a stinky feet smell about it.
T- bitter, in a good way I think. herbal. hard to elaborate. Has
F- medium body
O- very different. not sure if its within date because I don't see one. would be interested to know if this beer was still within its appropriate life span.

Maybe something was wrong with my beer, but this was honestly one of the worst ones I've ever had. Worse than the Chupacabra, somehow. I do not plan on ever drinking this again.

22 ox bottle. no bottling info

Pours an orange body with a white head. Little retention, little lacing

Smell is malt, some pine and ... that bridgeport smell.

Taste follows the smell leading to a nice hoppy bitterness... Bridgeport IPA's just have a certain unique signature. I have heard it described as a medicine smell/taste. I think this is an accurate description... It reminds me of the taste you get when you lick an envelope. This may sound crazy but it aint necessarily bad.. It's just that Bridgeport thing....

Nice medium feel

Overall Good, not great

This beer looks very nice and full. Cloudy red-orange brown with an enduring head that leaves plenty of lace once it finally subsides. At 87 IBUs, it's very strong on the hop, almost as strong on the malt, for an overall robust flavor. As it hits different parts of the tongue, its varying elements distinguish themselves very clearly. There's an element of sweet at the front, but bitter toward the back, and spice that I can't quite identify. Overall, this beer looks and smells very good; objectively, I think it presents well and is nicely crafted. This is what makes it strange for me to say that I do want to like it, but personally speaking I don't think this is one I'd repeat once my supply is gone.
