Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a traditional pint glass. Particularly a fan of the classy label, as well as the bottle itself. "Oregon's Oldest Craft Brewery" is embossed above the label in the glass. Cool.

Appearance: The color is a gorgeous hue of golden orange, with a thin off-white head. Aside from the color, the first thing I notice is the huge presence of sediment throughout the beer. Unfiltered beer is always promising.

Aroma: This is a very aromatic brew. A deep draw into the nose reveals citric and grapefruit tones, as well as a healthy amount of hops. The label's description does promise an aggressive use of hops, which is making my mouth water.

Taste: Grapefruit, grapefruit, hops, grapefruit. Although very heavy on the grapefruit flavor, the taste is not overpowering. After leaving the mouth, there is a pleasant hoppy aftertaste. I would have preferred more of a balance between the two flavors.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, slightly sticky. Any IPA that can pull that off is A-OK with me. From an Imperial, I would still expect it to be even stickier, so in that respect, this brew is a little lacking. However, I quite enjoy it the way it is.

Overall: An easy-drinking IPA with a good hop taste. Especially for the price and the ABV, this is one hell of a buy. Although this is the first time I have reviewed Hop Czar as I drank one, I have enjoyed this brew numerous times, and continue to regularly purchase it.

Poured this one into a tulip glass, and Hop Czar makes a strong finger thick off white foam presentation, and the body of the brew makes a copper colored appearance with a lot of haze.

The aroma is hop centric, with grapefruit and orange peel (or peal?). Very arid in the way of a breeze of fresh air.

Taste wise it hits with a good solid caramel back bone, and the hops impart a sling of lemon, grapefruit, and metallic qualities.

Feel medium in body, and not warming in the end. I'd venture to say this is a solid IPA, but not a DIPA. Nonetheless, a great beer.

12-oz bottle into New Belgium globe

A - 2 fingers of off-white head rest atop a transparent body of orange amber; moderate carbonation bubbles, decent lace trail

S - floral hops, citrus notes, suppressed malt, suggestion of alcohol

T - floral bitterness with a hint of pine, malty backbone somewhere in there, alcohol; dry, bitter finish

M - slick, chewy medium body, medium/high carbonation, alcohol warms the finish

O - Hop Czar is a very decent DIPA.
