Wish I hadn't waited so long to try this. If you like a Stout with a heavy coffee taste at the finish this is for you.

Nearly no foam, pitch black color. Chocolate, toffee and smoky whiskey, alcoholic bourbon aroma is very present. Has an medium body with an oily, slick mouthfeel. Espresso flavor, going along with heavy bourbon, highlighting an usual aggressive alcoholic presence for a stout. Feathered by chocolate flavors, soon getting overpowered by an upcoming bitterness in the end. Also unusual high carbonation, with a metallic hint in it. Strong coffee finish, but not very long lasting.

Pours a dark black, minimal thin off white head. Smells of oak, vanilla, coffee, some cocoa. Strong bourbon characteristics at initial taste, coffee, carob, oak and vanilla notes. Mouthfeel is incredibly thin for a stout – as previous reviewers commented – more akin to a brown ale or porter. Fair amount of effervescence.
Not unpleasant – but seemed to lack many of the characteristics I find important to a stout. I’ve got 5 left of the six pack I bought – I’ll probably take them to a party and throw them into a cooler – never to be seen again. Not my cup of tea. (Note – I was a little sad after drinking this beer – I had such high hopes. . .)

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass

A - Massive frothy tan head on this beer even with an easy pour. Head dissipates quickly. Some carbonation clinging to sides of glass. Carbonation bubbles rise quickly. Beer is opaque and black. Very slight tint of mahogany around edges. 3.5/5

S - Very heavy aroma of vanilla extract followed by espresso, dark chocolate, and molasses. Slight hint of sugary dairy creamer as well. Very dark roasted malt. No real hop presence in the aroma. 4/5

T - Vanilla, oak, and bourbon whiskey are the first notes that hit my tongue, all in quick succession of one another. Following those are a slight hint of caramel and then velvety smooth espresso and dark chocolate. Boozy up front but once the caramel and espresso come in the alcohol flavor fades away. No real hop presence in the flavor. This beer tastes very clean and earthy throughout. There is some coffee to this as the bottle says but the vanilla, oak, and bourbon are truly the heavy hitters in terms of flavor here. No real lingering flavor leaves a clean impression on the palate. 3.75/5

M - Not as carbonated as initially expected. Velvety smooth for the most part with a bit of carbonation burn up front. Heavy but carbonation does lighten it a bit. Leaves a velvety smoothness in the mouth. 3.75/5

O - Interesting stout but this beer tastes more like bourbon than beer. I love my bourbon. I love my beer. I'm just not convinced that I love bourbon beer. Barrel aging makes for awesome beers but IMHO it should either enhance and/or diminish flavors without imparting such an obvious presence of bourbon to the beer as this one does. The balance is just thrown out of whack on this one with its heavy slant towards bourbon. 3.75/5

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout

This beer is black with a small khaki colored head. It smells of dark roasted malts with a little vanilla. It tastes like a good stout with light vanilla, oak, and almost caramel like notes coming through from the bourbon barrels. It has moderate carbonation on a pretty light body. Overall I think it is a well-made bourbon barrel stout that isn't too high in abv.
