Incredible tick here, pulled from a 2013 bottle that was tapped at Bittercreek in Boise; murky brown pour with minor notes of off-khaki head and lace. The nose surprised me with bright citrus character right off the bat, I'm shocked I'm even thinking this but is that the hoppy Double Bastard poking through? Nice earthy, floral, and smoky notes as well. The palate continues down this road with notes of Earl Gray and London Fog, which really surprise me but makes sense with that clear lemon citrus character and the earthy, somewhat smoky oak...vanilla as well. Sweet, not boozy at all really, pretty easy to drink. A fun one to check off my Wants list.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had brown color and a murky, cloudy consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, off white head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: A pretty good aroma of hops, caramel, malt, booze, and wood.

T: Tasted of fair amount of malt (present throughout, but not a massive factor), a good bit of bourbon (and its accompanying barrel), a lot of hops (not too much, but certainly present), a hint of pine (just enough to make things interesting), and some caramel (quite sweet). A likable beer that's not overly off-putting in its booziness.

F: An average amount of carbonation with a smooth, somewhat dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This beer has its flaws, but still manages to likable. Worth a look.

Finally opened my cellared bomber with a 2015 year stamp on it on 7/18/2020. I thought this was a Stones beer, but it said "Arrogant Bastard Brewing Company" on the bottle. This was the only location that had the Southern Charred beer. Anyway, even though it poured extremely cloudy, it was very smooth with a redundantly smooth after taste. If I can get my hands on another bottle of Southern Charred, I know I won't be disappointed.

2015 vintage... poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazed viscous caramel amber pour with thin head. Modest lacing.

S: Wood, oak, booze, and caramel.

T.F: Rich... some sweet malts, caramel, and sugars up front. Vanilla and bourbon mingled with pine and some residual hop bitterness. A bit of char, some dark fruit, and resin. Medium to thick bodied... low carbonation. Oily on the tongue with more caramel and pine at the finish. Boozy.. alcohol a bit too present.

O: A well done variant on 'Double Bastard', and the whiskey and oak came through nicely. More residual pine/hops than I was expecting given the age and it almost reminded me of their 'Old Guardian'. Similar booziness and flavor. A nice 'treat' brew.

A 500ml corked and caged bottle, 2015 vintage. Poured into a snifter glass.

Appearance: Poured a cold haze rusty orange brown colour but eventually settled to a clear copper colour with a very thin orangey beige head that disappeared quickly while leaving some spotty lacing.

Aroma: Sweet malts, bourbon, caramel, toffee, oak, ginger, candied grapefruit, and some light piney notes.

Taste: Sweet malts, bourbon, caramel, toffee, oak, light bitterness, grapefruit peel, piney, resinous, citrus pith, and maybe hints of raisins.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.

Overall: I loved the aroma and there was a good balance in the flavours between sweet and bitter that make it such a good sipper.

2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Vintage

Color: Brown
Aroma: Bourbon alcohol, dark fruits
Taste: Caramel, light notes of dark fruits, some bourbon sweetness, a little tart, marshmallow, mouthfeel is medium
Conclusion: Cool label artwork. The abv is well hidden for 12.6% abv beer. This beer has been aged for 2 years so it's now a smooth drink, there is nothing offensive going on in the taste. This beer was better than I expected. I still think regular Arrogant Bastard Ale is a better drink than this, well at least it used to be because the regular Arrogant Bastard Ale does not taste as good as it used to be back when I first had it 5 years ago anyway cheers!
