Pours a golden yellow color with a minimal head that lasts quite a while. No discernable aroma. Tastes of citrus and hops. Finished with a decent hoppy bitterness; noticeable but not overwhelming. Opened my can after cutting the grass so I can honestly say it's a good working outside beer.

16 oz. can that pours clear golden color with a decent white foamy head that sticks to my glass. Strong hop aroma, medium bodied. Tasty citrus - cheese hop flavor, very aggressive. Nice crisp mouthfeel, finishes clean and bitter.

Picked up a single from the Kings Beer & Wine cooler 1-16-20 for $3.69. Canned on 11-25-19; best by 4-23-20; consumed 4-19-20. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured golden with a decent white head that has some hang time.

Nose is malty with no characteristic i would expect from the style. A tad fruity from the hops.

Taste has a touch of breadiness and gets quickly overwhelmed by the alpha hops used, some grapefruit, somewhat herbal. Finishes very bitter for the style; 9/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly refreshing.

Overall, from a style perspective, a bit disappointing, but not a bad beer. If you like in your face hops this beer is for you.

Stone's specialty is pale ale. This is their "pilsner"... right... It's decent at best as long as it's cold. A solid 3 in my book. It's got some real profile, but certain flavors are just too pronouced. I think a bourbon ale would be more Metallica's style but hey, that's just me. Always room for improvement, hope to see it \m/ \m/

Clear yellow colored beer with a tall white head.

Smells extremely hoppy. Probably another Stone over hopped beer. Smells of willow tree and aspirin. Some scorched sugar malt scent.

Starts out bitter with a burned sugar taste. Some sweetness after the initial shock of the bitterness. Nobel hop is in this but it is way over hopped.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall ANOTHER over hopped beer from Stone. I can't recommend this stuff.

Poured from a tall can into a tall tap glass.

Pours nearly crystal-clear and medium gold with decent head that subsides quickly but gives way to decent lacing. Rising but not streaming carbonation.

Floral and grassy aromas prominent with honey, clean-malt grain, and bready notes.

The brew has a touch of honey-sweet malt up front but gives way to floral, grassy, and then citrusy hops. White pepper, lemongrass and woody apple flavors as well. Somewhat overhopped for the style.

The brew has a nice medium-light body with a somewhat drying but not crisp (and that's fine) finish.

A solid pils, even if it is a bit hoppy for the style.

This is good enough to drink, but not to buy again. It tastes more like an IPL, which I guess I should have expected from a Stone pilsner. Unfortunately, it's not very well balanced. It's bitter for the sake of bitterness, not for a complete flavor profile.

16oz can, enjoy by 03/12/20. Effervescent, slightly hazed, golden body is capped by a persistent frothy, white head. Aroma is floral hops, citrusn amd biscuity malt. Flavors are easy drinking with notes of biscuity Pilsner malt, floral hops, and lemongrass. Light-to-medium body, higher carbonation, balanced and clean finish. Pretty good German Pilsner.

From the 16 oz. can dated 07/31/2019. Ancient as of December 13, 2019 when I tried it.

It looks like a Pilsener with its yellow color, bubbly carbonation, white head, and good clarity.

The aroma is grassy, slightly stale, grainy, herbal, and a vegetable oil sensation. Probably too old.

Light yet smooth body.

The taste could have been sweet and grassy but it seemed stale and boxy. Sadly, I should have had this 5 months ago.

Pours a crystal clear light golden, with a fast dissipating foamy head. Smell is reminiscent of musty bread, hops, grains, a certain earthiness and mild dankness. Taste is bready cracker with a mild spicy hop bite.Feels medium to light body with a ample carbonation. Overall this is a weird interpretation of a German Pils. Not as floral or spicy as I would prefer. Mildly astringent. Somewhat grainy. Sort of strange. Not a drain dumper, but there are many other authentic German pilsners that are more representative of the style.

From a 3-week-old can (thanks for dating it!), pours a clear straw gold. A couple of fingers of soapy white foam leaves decent lacing. Smell and taste are on target for a pilsner, though it seems a little more aggressively hopped than German examples—and this is one of the things I like about it. This is a beer I keep coming back to. Especially like the 6-packs of 16 oz cans.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, medium golden color with a strong white foamy head. SRM of 6. (4.00)

Aroma: Lemon, grapefruit, pulpy pineapple pith. Some grassiness and hay. (4.00)

Flavor: Lemon then some bitter grass and hay with some pithy grapefruit rind. Finishes dry relatively bitter, but still tamed to the German pilsner style (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied. Clean and crisp. Alcohol is detectable at 5.7%. Leaves a grassy, bitter astringency on the tongue. Not all that bitter, but more of a grassy and pithy (maybe even slightly sour?) astringency. Almost sulphuric, stale butter/bread, or cardboard. Just strong pithy & grassy bitterness. (4.25)

Overall: A hoppy and heavier pilsner. A little stronger alcohol, so not as clean and smooth as some other pilsners. You can feel the alcohol warmth as it goes down. Lots of stale and grassy bitterness that reminds me of a Zwickel, yet this one is more bitter. Yet I'd compare it most to a Zwickel. Still it's incredibly delicious and I'd rate it as a great pilsner with an imperial flare. For those of us that enjoy pilsners, this one could be a pioneer for the Imperial Pilsner style. (Final Rating: 4.08)

Decent beer, though the taste is far to flowery and bitter to have much in common with a German Pilsner and much more in common with an IPA. If your ok with that you might enjoy it, otherwise do yourself a favor and search out something more representative of the style.

Thanks, Gregg!

Got this and six other random beers from Gregg via a hookup at Stone. Surprisingly I hadn’t tried it yet. Most of the can description was trash, like most of the Stone cans and bottles. Online description read, “In collaboration with Metallica, this beer represents the cataclysmic collision of two uncompromising supernatural forces. It's a crisp and refreshing Pilsner that, much like the band, transcends genres, shatters preconceptions and challenges convention.”

Poured a pale yellow-to-medium yellow clear color with five fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass at really fast speeds. Outstanding foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled floral, lemon zest, grass, hay, fresh baked bread, Cheerios, hints of honey and Noble hops. Even better out of the can. Really nice on the nose. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste was not nearly as good as the nose. Still solid though. Got grass, hay, black pepper, Noble hops, floral, lemon zest, grapefruit, fresh baked bread, herbal, bitter green vegetable, wood and Cheerios. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.75)

A very good pilsner overall. Better than I thought it would be. (Overall - 3.75)

16oz can poured into a pint
Canned 6/24/19

A- pours a clear golden color with a one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a thin film floating on top

S- toasted pilsner malt, bread crust, biscuit, floral & leafy hops, peppery yeast

T- light floral and citrus hop note up front, followed by toasted bready malt at the mid-palate. The finish gives more hops with citrus notes poking through, lingers of toasted malt with a hint of spicy yeast

M- medium-light body with medium biting carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a crisp finish

O- clean and crisp, with more of a hop bite than a traditional pilsner, good stuff

For a while there during this hot, humid Summer, I just could not get enough Pilsners to slake my thirst. Finally, I ran dry in my backlog & so I turned to other styles, but this recently surfaced and as The CANQuest (tm) likes to say, "No time like the present!"

From the CAN: "In Collaboration with Metallica".

You CAN just imagine what was playing on YouTube as I Crack!ed open the vent to begin my slow, gentle C-Line Glug. In response, it seemed to roar up with foam, forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was quite biscuity, clearly malt-driven, but with a solid Sazz hops hay-grassiness also in evidence. Mouthfeel was medium. They really seemed to have cranked up all of the ingredients in this one! It beCAN with a crackery, biscuity maltiness & then the Saaz hops just went wild! It was t-h-i-s close to being in the Boho Pils range, but they exercised just enough restraint so that I did not have to flip out or flip a coin. Flip like Wilson, yo! Finish was semi-dry, very refreshing & just the sort of thing that I would want to have in my hand during a CANcert. YMMV.

It is hard to be objective with this brew...since I have been Arrogant since the invention of dirt.
With that being said, you just have to take a roll in the mud and try it...you wont be disappointed. I mean it, because I know, and I'm the best !!!! And don't you forget it !!
All kidding aside... it is a very tasty pilsner with a nice body and very pleasant to drink and definitely "WORTHY"of a try.

Pours a clear golden color with a large soapy and lathery head. It displays good retention throughout.
The nose first highlights the malts, grainy and bready and with a touch of sweetness. Noble hops aromatics evoke grass, mint and floral notes.
A grainy malt taste, lightly toasted, bready and cracker like. Clean, deftly crafted and delicately flavored, the malts offer a temporary biscuity sweetness. However, the noble hops soon takes center stage. It provides an assertive earthy bitterness, along with grassy, minty and peppery flavors.
Medium to light bodied, crisp and with a lively carbonation. Dry finish with a lingering hops spice.
Pretty good for the style. Glad to see Stone putting out some solid Lagers.

I got this just for novelty sake but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Golden yellow in color with a white frothy head that quickly fades leaving decent lacing. Lemon and floral with some faint citrus scents, the taste adds little hop flavor. Maintains a light-medium carbonation which keeps the feel interesting as it is pretty light. Not bad, but the sales pitch on the can is cringe.
