Notes: First release: November 2010

Lukcy Basartd Ale was first released in November 2010 in celebration of the (lucky) 13th anniversary of Arrogant Bastard Ale. This powerfully complex beer is an amalgamation of three Bastards—Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard Ale and OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale—unceremoniously thrown together and then dry-hopped to excess. Those Worthy souls who possess the nerve to try it will be rewarded with a delicious assault on their taste buds.

Draft poured into snifter; nice mahogany color with small head; modest carbonation. Malts, toffee and slight earth tones to nose. Medium body - subtle citrus notes, hops and light bitterness on the palate. Others commented on tobacco and I can concur with that; very subtle. I really nice beer.

I finally tracked down the last Bastard! ... Which is simply a blend of the bastards I HAVE tried... but also DRY-HOPPED! I can't wait. It says "DIRNK ME NOW" and "DON'T CELALR"... Too bad. I DID cellar it for one night (and I'm sure it would age wonderfully for over a year, too, based on my experience cellaring Arrogant Bastard). But I will drink it now, cellar temperature, in my snifter.

Like every other bastard beer I've beheld, this one is a gorgeous sight. That familiar frothy tan head complementing a deep, shining garnet hue. Awe-inspiring.

It smells of dark cherries and raisins, with accents of pine, citrus zest, vanilla, and a little smoke and leather. A non-specific berry scent too, I think. And of course, DANK HOPS. Love it.

Okay the flavor took me by surprise a bit. A bright, astringent blend of citrus rind and well... DRY hops hits hard and fast like a ninja. We're talking an initial hops assault on the DIPA level here. In the aftermath of this I can taste some caramel, nuttiness, and a dry breadiness wrapping things up. What a ride!

The body is decidedly full, which I am decidedly happy with.

Being a blend of beers I'd already tried, I wasn't sure how distinctive this would be, but I think the dry-hopping made it stand out. Truly an ale worthy of being associated with Stone's prestigious family of bastard beers. It IS the progeny of tho others, after all.

A - Pours a beautiful deep ruby color. Very clear. 2 fingers of a beige head which dissipates slowly and leaves some excellent lacing on the glass.

S - Rich caramel malts. Pine and earthy hops present. Very nice.

T - Caramel, toffee malt flavors up front. The hops are very earthy, then its like chewing on pine needles. Finishes bitter. Lovely. The alcohol is masked by all of the flavors.

M - Medium bodied with medium to medium-light carbonation.

O - Very good beer. Pleasant all the way around. The alcohol is hidden very well, so this becomes a dangerously drinkable beer for its strength. I would absolutely pick this one up again.

Just when you thought the arrogance and bastardization of ales has met its limits, Stone somehow finds new heights of intimidation and brashness in a beer.... and doing so with such beauty, elegance, and refinement. Not unlike an elegant balerina- turn porn star.

High aggression of pine resins, citrus piths, and sharp spruce lead the hoppy nose into a swirl of hops with malty notes of bread crust, lightly scorched caramel, and sun-kissed barley kernels. All of which scream brashness and assault.

Pouring a deep amber color, the beer carries a hazy glow with a dense and sturdy yellowish head. Very mousse-like and sticky with lace/legging. Maybe the beer should be served with a fork and knife.

An on slaught of dense malt flavor begin with deeply caramelized barley, toffee, and molasass. Not to be outdoane, the rebuttal of hops balance the mean spirited malts with sharp pine, resin, white grapefruit flesh, and a pithy/sappy taste unlike anything ever found in a beer.

Heavy, full, and creamy early, the beer takes ultimate fullness to malty dryness, arid hoppiness, and alcoholic warmth in a hurry. This makes the beer way too drinkable for such strength and power.

The insestual nature of these Basards give the right contributions from each while giving the beer a fresher dry-hopped aroma, fortified hop flavor, and intense bitterness. If not for the paint thinner-like alcohol taste and shear power in flavor, the beer could reach perfect- even if a bastard.

I recognize this beer has had many good reviews, but I find it to be very harsh and difficult to drink. Poured the rest of the bottle down the drain. I love the bottle and the hype they build in the writings on the bottles, so I was really wanting to like this one and the original arrogant bastard. While I appreciate the complexity and cleanliness of both, I can't recommend or purchase it again. Sorry Stone, I love your other brews!

22 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 10/3/16, had 11/16/16.

Pours a ruby/medium amber, with a one and a half inch head and some soapy lacing. The smell is pine, citrus hops- grapefruit, for one, malt , yeast, toffee, oak. The taste starts out with grapefruit and pine, but becomes more malt forward as it warms. Caramel, more oak than the nose, a pretty strong bitterness throughout. Smooth, full bodied for the style, well carbonated.

Lots of oak, pretty well balanced between the hops and malt, although it leans to the malt, a treat like all of the Bastard beers. Can be yours at a great price for the quality, it's well worth a purchase.

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high beige colored head that died down, consistently leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: An interesting mix of caramel malts, citrusy hops, pine resin hops and oak is present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the hops are more prominent and lend a moderate to strong amount of bitterness that lingers through the finish (especially the piney hops). Hints of alcohol and vanilla are also noticeable. Once the beer warms up, the vanilla flavors become stronger.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied, crisp and very dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. Some alcohol heat is perceptible.
O: This beer is like smelling salts in that tasting the hop bitterness will definitely wake you up, but there's an interesting enough mix of flavors to make it something you can sip and savor. It definitely tastes like a hybrid between an imperial IPA and a strong ale.

Excellent hoppy beer. Pours golden with a foamy half inch of head. Citrus hop aromas. Aggressive hops that are muted by a great and substantive malting. Citrus and light fruity tastes. Oh so drinkable.The hops do act to wear down the taste buds somewhat.

Beautiful but small off white head. Body is a gorgeous clear amber. Smell is very hoppy and florally. This does taste like the beers from which this is born, but i enjoy it better. There is a great floral quality and much more malty sweetness than the others. This is also very well balanced. Feel is tingly and medium. There is the slightest drying effect. The aggressive bitterness prevents this beer from being super drinkable.

I saw a representative from Stone said this should have been consumed fresh and not aged. This one has been sitting around for a few months.

Pours a murky dark brown with a 2 inch light tan head that fades to a small cap. Decent rings of lace around the glass. Smells of brown sugar, toffee, caramel, and citrus zest. Taste is of sweet brown sugar, caramel, and biscuit up front with a citrus zest hop bite on the finish. Mild bitterness lingers on the palate after each sip. Beer has decent carbonation and is somewhat smooth going down. Overall, this is a very good beer that is an interesting blend of 3 of Stone's Bastard releases. It would have been a good idea to have one of these fresh though.

Some how my review got erased or not saved but I'm going to note what I remember and update this if I end up getting it again which I hope I do sometime.

This beer seemed to be much more tame than the double bastard and have more character than the dirty bastard.

Pours a thick, brown cola-like color with a moderate white head. The head has decent retention.

The smell is strong and there's lots of it. Kind of reminds me of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Has a semi-sweet smell to it, with mostly citrusy smells dominating, particularly pineapple.

Pine and citrus dominate on the palate as well, with some malty undertones for balance.

The pine and citrus gets you attention first, but it quickly turns to a hoppy bitter in the finish, which only gets stronger as the beer warms. It's never an over the top bitter, just enough to let you know the beer is for real.

This thing has big alcohol, but there is no heat from the ABV and it never feels like you're taking a shot. It's somewhat thick and creamy, but goes down smooth.

22oz bomber. Pours an orangey brown color with a medium-sized frothy head. Tons of sticky lacing. Hell of an aroma. Mostly hops and citrus but some oak as well. Taste is of big hops, orange, and oak. This beer packs a lot of flavor. I must say I am impressed by this Bastard. It is disappointing that this is a one time brew, but I'll be grabbing some to age. This is a really good beer and it certainly has characteristics of the 3 types of Bastard used to make it. Well done, Stone.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle labeled "best by January 31, 2013" into a tulip- pours a clear mahogany/amber color with 1.5 fingers of head, decent retention, really nice lacing.

Definitely some earthy pine hops in the smell, a little booze, some oak. A little murky smelling, but not altogether unpleasing.

Taste is much like the smell- a thick boozy, molasses-like flavor pervades. Moderate bitterness and earthy pine hop notes up front, followed by the molasses-like flavor to really ride the rest of the way out.

Mouthfeel is OK- full bodied, moderately carbonated, very syrupy, chewy, resinous. Perhaps this is better fresh. I like all of the other Bastards on tap and they're fine in the bottle. I'm not crazy about this one but again, maybe better with a fresher bottle or on tap.
