Vapor Wave is an experimental IPA brewed with acidified malt which adds a nice tart acidity and sea salt to give it a complex flavour profile that is both balanced and refreshing. It was then triple dry hopped with Citra, Lemon Drop and Motueka hops giving it a big citrusy hop punch that reminds you that that beer you’re crushing is actually an IPA.

473ml can - why can't an IPA just be a freaking IPA anymore?

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mildly bubbly bone-white head, which leaves some splattered sudsy lace around the glass as it slowly wafts off into the ether.

It smells of mixed domestic citrus rind, gritty and grainy cereal malt, sea salt, some indistinct tart fruitiness, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is softly soured grain, further gritty and biscuity pale malt, saltine crackers, some dried orange, red grapefruit, and lemon peel, a damp minerality, and more floral, piney, and herbal verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satiating frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and actually fairly smooth, with a wee aerosol creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the malt and mixed fleshy citrus notes lingering with the most chutzpah.

Overall - well, the sour and salty essences thankfully bail out as we proceed, rendering a nice frooty IPA in the end. Crisp, and with no sign of the elevated ABV, a pleasure to put back, once thoughts of gimmicky brewing techniques are safely in the rearview mirror.

Can: Poured a pale yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with OK retention with some lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops with light tart notes with some subtle salty notes. Taste is a fantastic mix of light salty notes with some tart notes and floral citrusy notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. I wasn’t sure the mix of flavours would work great but it was actually a great mix with great balance.

On tap at the Alibi Room, served in a 10 oz hourglass. Hazy lemon yellow with a fleeting white head, but terrific rings of sticky lace. Fresh, clean aroma: citrus, clean laundry (in a good way). Spare biscuit malt body with bright lemon citrus, faint pine needles, and a subtle hint of salt. Closes crisply with a soft, unassuming bitterness. Light to medium body and moderate carbonation. A bit of Gose meets IPA, blending the best of each - savory and refreshing salt and citrus with just enough hops and malt.
