As all the reviews have detailed...this is a mighty fine, no non sense kinda fine beer bar....a load of freshie cans and bottles available to go....a quality range of brews available for crowler/growler fills and for enjoying on premises....options from places like Aslin, and Hill Farmstead were enough to tell me this place was legit.....professional and friendly dude behind the sticks....all in all, very well worth visiting ..... no time for me to eat, but the menu spoke of interesting snacks and bar bites as well as sandwiches....good for a bite, or for lunch, bot not the spot for a dinner date

Vibe: This place had the most neat and orderly bar that I have ever seen - it was immaculately clean and everything was lined up in order. The highlight of the bar is its record player and collection of vinyls. There is a small shelf next to the record player displaying the cover of the song that is currently playing. The place is a long rectangular space but is located at the corner of the street so there are a bunch of windows that let in natural light.

Quality: Beers were served in a variety of glassware including pint glasses and snifters.

Service: I sat at the bar, and service was very prompt and cordial. I particularly liked it how they gave you a glass of water without asking.

Selection: The place had 15 beers available on-tap (the 16th tap was a cider) and the selection consider of a wide range of breweries including: Bellwoods, Burley Oak, Fair State, Fox Farm, Grimm, Hill Farmstead, Hofbrauhaus, Jackie O's, Perennial, Plan Bee, Root + Branch, Schilling, Temescal, and Upland. Beers were also available to-go at a window at the end of the bar in crowlers or growlers.

Food: I didn't try anything to eat, but it looked like they had an interesting selection of meats and cheeses to choose from, as well as sandwiches made with these ingredients.

Quiet inside on a Friday afternoon with some great tunes playing on a turntable. I asked the bartender what the album was and he brought over the vinyl for me to see. U.F.O.F. by Big Thief; "easy listening afternoon music" as the bartender put it.

The setup inside is interesting but it works. A long bar with another row of bar-like seating behind it. A few tables set up in the corner of the space. 16 beers on-tap and the list is a good one. Rothaus Tannenzäpfle Pils was on there and I just had to start off with that. For my second, I was deciding between Threes Brewing Far Between (oak aged Festbier) and Suarez Family Walk Don't Run (hoppy blonde ale). The bartender was generous enough to give me a sample pour of each and both were great, but I went with the Suarez.

The bar got a delivery of cans while I was there. One of them was a Sour Mango Strawberry from Edmund's Oast Brewing and without asking the bartender poured one of the 16 oz cans into samples for everyone at the bar to try. Very cool.

I had a bowl of salted rosemary almonds to go along with the beers and they were ridiculously good. It was the most almonds I have ever eaten in one sitting and I still didn't finish the bowl. Some sandwiches were coming out of the small kitchen in the back and they looked great too.

A great bar that's perfect for a few laid back beers during the day and I assume it's just as fun with a little more action during the evening hours.

Gold Star is a tiny little place... a narrow room with a long bar on the left and some seating on the right. 50 people in here would be pushing the limit. I managed to score a place at the bar.

Beer selection is awesome. I've checked their website many times and they seem to rotate really quickly. When I was here they had stuff from Sand City and Tired Hands as well as about ten other. They also have a good selection of bottles and cans for in house or take away.

Service demands it's own little section here. The bearded bartender was quick and effective, but stil managed to engage with his customers. That is a skill that many don't have. This also spilled over to the customers, who were happy and friendly. I even got a pour of Lawsons Double Sunshine off the guy next to me after talking to him for about two minutes. Just a great, inviting atmosphere, even though it was pretty crowded.

Overall, a great little bar that I would visit again and again if I lived in NYC.

have visited twice now and love this place. the menu has been different both times and loaded with exciting options from Hill Farmstead, Oxbow, Other Half, Grimm. On my last visit I tried the Yazoo Gose (Nashville brewery that I haven't seen in NYC plus the Gose was awesome). They didn't have the Grimm Double Negative that was on the menu (there was a "sold out stamp" over it), but on my first visit had the Grimm Super Going. The keg was kicked that night.

I tried two Hill Farmstead's on my visits (Walden and the Society + Solitude #8) and one was better than the next.

I just checked their menu online today and it is almost completely different than when i was there just two weeks ago. Not just different breweries but different styles too. It's an exciting place.

i didn't rate the food because i've only had the basic bar snacks, but all 3 i've tried were good and only a few bucks.

Lots of reasons to love this place:

The Beer Selection - varied, exciting. Always something new, eclectic, delicious, and sometimes weird to try. Best beer curation in New York right now, in my opinion. Of course there will be pilseners and IPA's for less catholic moods, but there will be adventurous smoked, oaked, peaty, wheaty, sour, and funky beers, plus ciders, the occasional mead, and other weird and wonderful visitors. (All presented in a friendly way - not intimidating or aloof like some beer-nerd bars can be.)

The Vibe - quiet, neighborhoody, clean, no sports on TV, nothing to detract from a relaxed time. Music generally played a whole album-side at a time. Relax.

The Staff - they will offer samples and give you opinions. A bunch of friendly and knowledgable people who will make you feel welcome and unintimidated, if you are not a beer-samurai like them. They will make sure you have a glass of water and all information you need.

A limited but excellent selection of snacks. I recommend the cheese plates, or the jerky when it's available.

Top notch in every way.
