Is this a brown ale? Deep copper and amber color to it, not inviting. Almost no head. Aroma was almost entirely devoid of hops, much less any dry hopping. Taste was all malt forward. English IPA with a double ipa abv almost. WTF is going on here?

Heavily roasted malt in the mouthfeel, takes on a metallic bitterness. Clearly a below average ipa, even in the janky EIPA category.

Pours a murky super dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, earth, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, earth, and pine needle flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that has more malt and earth qualities than hop ones.

Serving type: bottle.

A much darker than preferred substantial deep burnt copper color going on. Thin head.

Aroma wasn't hoppy at all. This is shaping up to be a disappointment.

Taste, all malt. Woof. I understand its an EIPA, but damn man, this is disappointing even for that style.

American hop aromas, malt and gain – more of an American IPA smell to it. Appearance: Hazy amber, shrinks to film but leaves good lacing, Flavor: rich caramelly nalts punctuated with rich, resiny grapefruity Pacific northwest hops – tastes more like an American IPA as well, a medly of flavors parade through you mouth, starting with sweet malts with a hint of fruityness from the yeasts followed by a growing hop presence, this really tastes like Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit – has the touch of sweetness to go with the bitter, then some sweet malt appears followed by resiny hop and seques into a long lingering hop bitterness soften by a subtle malt sweetness.

On tap at the brewpub.

A: attractive amber-orange color; clear with a durable off-white head and patterned sticky lacing.

Aroma: herbal/earthy hops and faint bisquits.

Flavor: Moderately bitter; woody; moderately hoppy, fiting the English IPA style.

Feel: near medium body; medium carbonation.

O: a good English-style IPA.

This is (was, reviewing from notes) one of the most peculiar ipas I've ever had, definitely an "English" style ipa. my notes read:
"brown in color, smells of citrus hops...whoa, very different, initial taste, oddly sweet... hints of caramel and toffee!! (what?! in an ipa!?) well balanced but different bitterness. aftertaste...smokey toffee taste, this beer blows my mind! reminds me more of a brown ale but still very DELISH!"

Has a dark copper kind of color going on here, a little darker than your average ipa. Thin head. Aroma wasn't hoppy. Disappointing.

Taste, hey cool, I guess I have to talk about the malt bill, because the hopping is almost non existant. And I get it, its an English IPA made in CA, but even for the style guidelines, this one is disappointing. The bitterness tastes like it comes from roasting of the malt moreso than any hop character. The metallic toasted malt flavor isn't doing me anything in the mouthfeel.

Was glad to finish this one. Not quite drainpour territory, but not impressive in the least either.

This beer pours a cloudy amber color. The head is half an inch in height, and recedes quickly into minimal lacing. The aroma is of butterscotch. There might be something else there, but if there is it is covered up by all of the butterscotch. The taste is even stronger in the butterscotch realm than the aroma. It is awful, and offensive. I really wish BeerAdvocate's ratings allowed me to give it a negative score, because this beer's taste truly deserves one. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with virtually no carbonation, and a chewy texture. Overall, this is one of the worst beers I've ever tasted. This is the kind of beer I would wish upon my enemies.
