Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown. The head fades quickly, leaving a minimal lace.

Smell - A distinct but simple coffee aroma, with just a subtle hint of chocolate.

Taste - Like iced coffee after the ice has melted. Not much else. Nothing offensive, just a weak and simple flavor profile.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium body. Weak carbonation.

Overall - The best part of this beer is the aroma. After that, it's all downhill.

By far the worst craft beer I've had. Would not wish this on my enemy. I've Never ever done this w any beer, but I actually dumped more than half of the bomber down the drain. I really tried to find something to like about it. Not sure how it won a medal. Maybe it was the only beer competing that year.

On tap at the brewpub.

A: a very durable creamy tan head leaves some sticky lacing. Clear but nearly opaque dark brown.

Aroma: mix of medium- and dark-malts with light-roasted coffee.

Flavor: Mix of medium- and dark-malts with light-roasted coffee. Excellent balance between the coffee an the malts. Faint hop presence.

Feel: near medium body with medium soft carbonation.

O: well-crafted coffee porter.

Overall the look and smell of this beer at its best attributes, but it is a very drinkable beer, just not something that has much complexity or intrigue. You get coffee and you get sweetness from the porter, but not much else. It is almost like drinking an Americano, it just happens to have alcohol in it.

Poured very dark brown from a 22oz bottle, with a light tan head. The first thing you notice is a very strong coffee and chocolate smell, which is very pleasant.

The taste is where this beer falls a little flat for me. The taste is good, as I like coffee, which is by far the dominant flavor, but the Kona coffee gives the beer an almost over-roasted bitter flavor, essentially what happens when you get some of the coffee grounds in your coffee. After that there is pretty much nothing to this beer, which was disappointing, but not bad.

If you are a coffee lover you will like/love this. If you want complex flavors that include coffee you will be disappointed. Overall I liked this beer, there is just nothing that is going to get me to come back for another.

Infused coffee, like cold coffee but not bad. Pretty basic underlying porter which is just sweetness, very little bitterness. Drinkable. Deep brown body, no head. More chocolate, body, roast would all be additions. Thanks for hooking me up Stephen, fresh bottle from the brewery.

22oz bottle served in my FW snifter glass
*Notes from 04/13/13

A: Pours light and thin in appearance with a dark hazel brown hue. Takes on a much darker black coffee color once fully collected in the glass. Topped with a smooth whip of low retaining dark khaki head that leaves some nice waves of splashy stick throughout the drink.

S: Fresh roast Kona coffee beans blend with dark grains. Aroma imparts a bit of ashy char on the nose and is slightly sweet with some burnt sugars there as well. Nice overall with some delicate yet firm coffee noted.

T: Rich coffee flavor is surprisingly fresh tasting. Dark toasted grains and charcoal notes. Slight brown sugary sweetness with a subtle coconut flavor coming through. Has a lingering smokiness as if they may have actually utilized some smoked malt additions. There is a very low hop bitterness present and any alcohol flavors are lost on me. I am getting a minor sharpness from the coffee additions. Not unlike the tart pucker of drinking a black coffee. Flavors are pretty nice otherwise with some decent balance.

M: Lighter body with a nice smooth and creamy mouth feel. Rather dry brew with some low astringency on the palate. Finish is a touch wet despite being mostly dry all together.

D: Not a shabby little porter by any means. Nice coffee flavors from the Kona additions. A bit thin with some cutting bitter components but factor in the very sensible price tag and I could see myself going for this one again.

Bottle from this new to me brewery.

A very dark brown with a dense, brown head with solid retention and lacing, this looks good. The nose is plenty of creamy coffee, toast, caramel and toffee. Not as roasty as I like my porters. The palate opens with sweet creamy coffee with chocolate, a very mild fruity acidity and a mild roasty flavor. The mid palate is unfortunately a little watery. Drying on the finish with a mild roast flavor and fruity coffee, this beer is solid. Not as robust as I like my porters to be but solid nonetheless.

Attractive reddish brown in the Leffe goblet. Modest head, but pleasant enough mouthfeel. Fairly sharp and thin. It doesn't taste very strong with alcohol.

A nice of blush of sweet malt on your lips with each taste. The coffee is definitely there, but not too strong. Tastes almost like it has coconut and a touch of vanilla. The aftertaste is just a little too much like bitter dishwater, however. A little sharp and spicy. Some burnt malt along with the bitter coffee twang.

From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Avenue Liquor in Coronado.

Appearance- pours a deep brown with a moderate light brown half finger head ( after a vigorous pour). looks kinda like a cola in the glass.the cap gets real thin but there is some lacing as i go along

Aroma- coffee of course but earth and date/fig also maybe a touch of prune?!

Taste- the taste has that coffee bit or sourness (not a bad sourness) but its not bitter. i don't get the depth and the earthyness that the nose provided. The nose made me think it would be deep like an espresso, but the taste is more of a blonde roast drip.... if you get me !

Mouthfeel- I think this is what makes it an award winner, despite the lack of head retention its not too effervecent its also not too oily as i think some coffee stouts/porters can be. It could seriously take the place of a morning cup of joe! No alcohol warmth, no oilyness no sting!

Overall- this with a stack of pancakes and a side of bacon, yes please. I still think cismontane's black's Dawn is more my speed in the coffee/beer department but i would order another of these for sure.

Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee bean aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and brewed coffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid coffee presence that makes this one much better than the base beer (Moonstone Porter).

When poured into a pint glass, the color was a deep brown, with a little tan foam, but, loads of lace on the side of the glass from top to bottom. The smell of roasted malts and roasted coffee had a very pleasant aroma. The taste was of roasted malts and coffee. A little bitter on the palate and a touch of sourness. But overall a very pleasing coffee portor.

Coming from a 22 ounce bottle on to the beer;

let's make this short and sweet, this is a very dominant coffee tasting porter. It's a black colored beer with fluffy head and good lace. Coffee and mocha dominate the aromas. Meanwhile the taste is very dominate with the coffee, with just a kiss of the porter mixed in. Good for the coffee lovers who wants just a little beer.
