12 oz. can poured into wide-mouthed stick ("craft beer glass" with Libbey set)
(12/7/17 born-on date printed on bottom of can)

L: reddish copper, mostly clear with some sediment, pushes up short head of 1/3-inch beige foam; no sticking or lacing

S: toffee, toasted bread, plum, dates, fruitcake

T: much earthier than the nose, almost medicinal, with toasted earthy hop flavor and some molasses, burnt brown sugar

F: surprisingly heavy, even thick, with plenty of carbonation; it's not stout "slick" or anything that big, but it's hefty

O: if the flavor produced a bit more of that notes from that good malty nose, it'd be a big winner; as it is, Satyr's Swill is good enough to have me interested in more Back Pew Brewing beers if not this one; the nose is loaded with good toasted malt aroma

Draft. Poured medium brown amber, I would agree about the same as Shiner, but lighter than some bocks. Smell was more neutral, slight sweetness. Taste was definitely sweet, but the bigger issue was its syrupiness. Flavor was a bit monotone, not enough body, not enough balance. Overall, with the right meal, I could see this beer doing okay. On its own it struggles without enough flavor and character, giving way too easily to its sticky sweetness. .

Smooth. Sweeter than I expected. Like a nice, subtle brown ale.

Thin head that disappears quickly. Nose is caramel sweetness, light bready malts, a touch of lightly toasted malt. Taste follows suit. Bready malt upfront followed by light toasted Malts and some caramel. A touch of chocolate. I haven't had meant bocks (a ton of shiner, though) this seems to have a nice slightly creamy body. Overall, tastes good but not great. But I'm no expert on bocks.

On tap at Liberty Station in Houston, TX

A: Pours a dark amber/brown color. A two finger beige head forms with good retention. Plenty of lace is left down the glass.
S: Toasted malts, light grains, baked bread, and caramel malts. Really simple, but the malt character is great.
T: Like the nose, all malts that are really well done. I love toasted malts with a caramel sweetness. Not overly sweet, with some baked bread and grains.
M/O: Maybe just a bit lighter in body than I would like. Effervescent, crisp and clean. A touch more body would do this good, but as is still really enjoyable and easy to drink. Gone in no time, and something I can come back to.

Simple and to the point, and the malt character is pretty legit. A good Bock, and there are far to few of these available. I will be looking for more of this.

Looks appealing but has a chewy, dank, yeasty quality underneath the initial sweetness, that ranks among my least favorite types of beer.

it's taste is sharp but it's swill is actually quite light as it goes on down to the tummy.

After a summer of drinking hoppy pilsners and IPA's, it was refreshing to drink a brew with such a strong malt character. The roasted malt flavor burst through, with a hint of chocolate. The appearance was glorious-- a deep, hazy reddish copper tone. There was a slightly chalky taste but it wasn't unpleasant.
