Local lager! Wonderful option to have on the shelves, especially as the months warm.

In many ways the archetype of craft lager putting out product on par with the best of the style. Golden hue with impressive clarity, flecked with bubbles from the lively, but appropriate, carbonation. Fairly light head after a normal pour.

Aroma of grain, cereal and grass - nothing too sweet or anything off.

Clean, crisp, refreshing - it's a great lager, and it should be rated as such...

Gold colored and nearly clear. The server poured the beer gingerly from the can so there was little head but there was still some spots on the glass.

The smell mostly of raw barley grain. The malted portion must have been fully fermented as I get no sugar to the nose. No notable hop.

The taste mimics the smell with a lot of grainy notes and little hop. The body is quite rich for the style which saves it from being a pure lawnmower beer. Moderate carbonation. The finish is brief with a mildly sweet aftertaste.

The USS Fulton (AS-11) recently had a mini-reunion in New London/Groton, CT & naturally, I went on a prowling scour for new CANs in support of The CANQuest (tm). I hit the jackpot at the Universal Package Store in the New London Mall. I used to haunt that mall as a young man with nothing else to do & being back was like old times.

From the CAN: "Exactly where you need it to be."; "Whether you’re catching the game, conquering the trail, or walking in the door from your commute home, sometimes you just need a beer. Brewed distinctively for the everyday, this classic American Lager is light and crisp, and will have you reaching for another sip. So kick your feet up, breathe easy, and crack into a can of this liquid bliss."; "At Castle Island, beer is a reward. For a job done well or a new endeavor, you're holding a delicious, liquid pat on the back. We're here to put our spin on classic styles and discover remarkable new flavors with purpose and without pretense. So have a crack at Castle Island. You've come this far."

I am so happy to have so many Lagers, especially Pilsners, to get me through this Summer! I CAN't wait to Crack! open the vents & start my usual slow, gentle, C-Line Glug, leading up to a cold, or at least cool, beer. In this instance, I transcribed information while the head erupted to form just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with great retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). I hate to dun any beer for a lack of brightness, but it is part of the style. Sorry. 8=( Nose had a bready, malty sweetness with just a kiss of the hops. I love this sort of thing! Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly far past it, either. The taste was much like an earlier iteration of the style - bready, malty, lightly hoppy, but very refreshing, Finish was semi-dry, still refreshing & a good way to cool down on a hot, humid Summer's day. It is unavailable locally, but c'est la guerre. Otherwise, I would happily fill a beach-bound cooler with CANs. YMMV.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; with a fairly aggressive pour, less than a 1 finger white head that receded quickly to a thin collar; no lacing;

S: sweet, light malt;

T: follows the nose from start to finish; no hop character; mild bitterness at the end;

M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: refreshing;

16oz tallboy can, sample purchased at the brewery.

Love that the lager has infiltrated the indo-brewery scene. Yup, sometimes we want out beer to be yellow and fizzy ... and for it to taste like beer. Sure, its a great looking beer ... smells and tastes like beer. This is exactly what I want to go at when I'm out drinking and need to get away from the rest of the trends or hops I can't yet pronounce. Looking forward to acquiring a whole lot more during my next visit to the brewery, most certainly I will make room for this one in my beer fridge.

After consuming a can of this new product, I happily concluded that Castle Island had reintroduced taste to the world of domestic Lagers after it had been essentially eliminated by most of the macro brewers. In a world of hoppy IPAs, it's refreshing to see a solid example of this classic style making an appearance. It's a winner and I can only hope that it will be an ongoing product rather than a seasonal or one-off.

Can. Not sure what it looked like but I bet it was fine. A lager with some balls to it. 5.2% out of a tall boy ain't a bad time. Yeasty flavor but it had it's own unique quality. Almost reminded me of a really pale Helles in a way. I enjoyed it.

a decent american lager beer, on the edge of being a little adjuncty to me, insanely pale from the malt side of things, a little corny type sweetness to it, definitely not as dry as i like this style to be, but real easy drinking in the absence of some flavors, and certainly better than anything macro. its bright yellow in the glass, but doesnt hold much head after the initial pour, despite some bubbles rising up. aroma is light honey sweetness and the bready lager yeast, but the yeast is really minimal in the flavor, and i feel its effects on this more than i taste it really, but i do like it in the nose. i get a light floral character in the taste, a crackery pils type malt base, but it seems too light for that alone, its hard to place, there could well be some corn in here. it has a lot of cream ale character too, like a warmer fermented lager and that feel you get, or an ale finished with lager yeast too, just not real dry in the end. very mild grassy hops, not bitterness at all, light metallic finish, and more carbonated than it looks. this is decent, highly drinkable, but not particularly inspired or inspiring from a craft lager standpoint. my first beer from castle island.

One of my favorite craft lagers, especially after having tried several other tallboy craft offerings. This one is crisp, refreshing, biscuity, and full of that round flavor that feels so satisfying. Will go back as often as possible to maintain a solid stock for lager-loving guests...

16 oz from the can.

Appearance: I poured a wee bit into a glass. Clear straw, big white head. Looks like a lager.

Aroma: Corn, grass. Kind of blah lager nose. Smells like a High Life, somewhat.

Taste: Oh wow, this is a dud. Corny lagerness chased by almost nonexistent hops. Faint grass. Bit of unwelcome funk. Doesn’t not smell like farts.

Mouthfeel: Watery. Little body. Not much here.

Overall: Maybe it’s a bad can, but if this is representative of this beer, it’s a misfire. Very low flavor lager a la BMC. This Mass. beer reminds me of fahhhhhts guy.

Golden in color. Clear in appearance. Toasted grain, dank noble hop, malt and grass. Light, delicate, yet bitter. Nice flavorful brew. It's a good lager.
