E & O is an interesting, upscale-ish, eclectic restaurant. We sat on the small patio on the quaint, tree-lined street (shared by the VTA light rail, which passes directly in front of the patio).

The small menu manages to represent Thai, Vietnamese, Laotian, Indonesian, Cambodian, Singaporean, Javanese and Indian food. They have some full-meal plates, but the recommendation is to order a bunch of smaller plates to eat "family-style". Despite the ambitious geography, the food is very good.

They have four house beers brewed for them by Pyramid: a pils, an amber, an IPA and a hefe. I asked the server if they were Pyramid beers; he said they were brewed by Pyramid, but were E & O's own recipes. I had the hefe and the IPA. The hefe was pretty good (better than a bottled Pyramid hefe, I'd say): quite fruity with a very grainsy finish. The IPA was a decent, citrusy west coaster.

Overall, a very pleasant experience.

The place is like a restaurant on one side and a bar on another connected. The atmosphere is international with a far eastern look.

The tables, booths, and chairs appear to be made of wood. The bar is wood with a red cover and has far eastern imprints covered with enamel. Restroom is clean.

The service is kinda yuppy-ish, concerning, and prompt.

Lame selection, no beers brewed for them and I do not care for nonrisky beers etc... obviously no cask. In fact the bartender did not know what I was talking about when I asked if they had beer brewed for them.

The food is unique with some healthy options.

Food is pricey.

After visiting their San Francisco location I find the San Jose incarnation a bit lacking in personality. The bar is much smaller with a lot less of the exotic locale feeling. I found the bartenders to be disinterested in both their beers and customers. The waitstaff is a bit better. The food and beer itself is on par with the SF location. If you have a choice take the trip north and try the E&O on Sutter in SF.

This is a very nice restaurant / brewpub. The foods predominate here and the food is very good, concentrating on Southeast Asian cuisine. The establishment-brewed beers are equally tasty and can match the foods for flavor strength. Service is very good and the atmosphere is casually elegant. Great place to spend an evening, as we did with old high school chums.
