You ever make a really bad, inexcusable, incredibly offensive mistake? Like, the sort of mistake that even your best friend wouldn't forgive you for? And--it's not that this mistake was really malicious, just so insensitive and mind bogglingly stupid that it's unforgivable. You used to be Mark, or whatever, but then after making this mistake you became That Guy Who Made That Mistake.

Maybe one time you accidentally killed your mom's dog (total accident, like you sat on it), and then instead of telling anyone about it you went next door, huffed butane, and knocked up your friend's 14-year-old sister? Or maybe you meant to fart in the pool only, whoops, out came poop, a lot of it, and you didn't tell anybody, just went inside, all poopy butt, swim trunks still on, and sat down Indian style on your uncle's expensive Persian rug and played a few games of Uno.

Those are bad things, man. But you know what? I got you some redemption. Drinking a full bottle of Shergill IPA is such an unimaginable, scary thing--such a life defining mistake--that it will supersede any and every other awful thing you've ever done.

This looks, smells, and tastes like poison. Please pardon the lack of beer technicalities in that description--it's just that this doesn't in any way even slightly resemble beer. It's like some someone filled a bottle up with roach spray and it just got mislabeled at the factory.

Aside from Colonial Pub Pints Hefe, this is the worst tasting beer I've ever had. It's inexcusable. Every person who was involved in its manufacture and sale should ben ashamed of themselves. Just buying and attempting to consume it has made me a worse person.

This isn't just a bad beer. It's an experience.

330ml single - no way am I getting suckered into buying a case of this, given its heritage. A surprise find nonetheless, not 5 blocks from home, but on the, um, other side of the proverbial tracks.

This beer pours a hazy, smoggy, medium orangish amber colour, with two fingers of foamy off-white head, which settles quickly, leaving nothing in the way, shape, or form of lace in the vicinity. It smells of butterscotch, stale fleshy fruit, and earthy, dead flower hops. The taste is sweet sugary caramel malt, very mild earthy hops, and a slight metallic alcohol astringency. The carbonation is on the low side, the body too light to claim medium weight, and a little overly tacky to be considered smooth. It finishes sweet and airy, a stirring booze warming lurking at the gate.

Hard to really classify this as an IPA, of any ilk, but the label sez what the label sez. While not quite the abomination in style and nomenclature as Alexander Keith's, heh, 'IPA', this offering still lacks the requisite hop profile by a long shot. Other then that not-so-small quibble, the rest of this beer's structure fares much more favourably - too bad that, overall, that dooms this as a malt-bomb, with only a bit of booze to feebly attempt balance. Still, by far the best beer that I've ever sampled from the Minhas clan - relativity indeed in play.

Shergill is apparently just an south Asian surname. The elephants on the label aid in the English IPA classification. The prominent hop cluster imagery on the label does not.
