650ml bottle. All Alberta wheat and barley - I'm sure Alberta taxpayers are finally happy to hear about that, in addition to the fact that this is wholly brewed in Calgary, by new brewer for hire Dave Neilly, who has been party to a few beers that I've sessioned over the years. And it looks like they got the titular pooch to the gym since his appearances on their Farmhouse and Gluten Free labels - not so lazy looking now.

This beer pours a hazy pale golden straw colour, with one skinny finger of fizzy, bubbly, and barely foamy dirty white head, which leaves little beyond a few random specks of dotted lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of rather fruity wheat malt - sans graininess - mildly tart apple orchard offal, with a suggestion of timid black pepper, and some hard to describe umami warmth. The taste is plain, semi-sweet wheat malt - again without any real graininess, any edginess - some toned-down, denuded apple and pear fruitiness, hollow echoes of the aerosol pepper spice that was, and hints of earthy and weedy hops.

The carbonation is actually active and engaged, with a slightly edgy effervesce, the body on the light side of medium weight for the style, and generally plebeian in its smoothness. It finishes just off-dry, the wheatiness straining to fill out the requisite form, while the saddled fruit and spice just kick back and fire another one up.

Not the worst pale wheat ale that I've come across, and definitely not the best, but for this brewery, that's high praise. No skunk, no plastic, no industrial runoff (my typical descriptors for anything Minhas has made thus far) and well, good then. So it is, like its newborn IPA sibling, drinkable, without being challenging, but that's all one should really expect here - stepwise improvement.
