On tap into a nonic glass at the brewery. Reviewed from notes dated October 16, 2016.

A-The beer is slightly hazy and orange-golden in color. A sticky white head is about one and one-half fingers tall to start. The head fades steadily but a thin cap of foam hangs around for a while. Not much carbonation is visible.

S-The aroma is nicely floral with hints of tropical fruit like mango. Bitterness is medium and whiffs of orange zest and tangerine reveal the citra hops used in the beer. Pine notes are subtle, but there is a little sharp flavored greenery lurking in the background. Hop heavy with just a little malt for balance.

T-The taste is similar to the smell. A touch unbalanced toward the hop end of the flavor spectrum, but perfectly appropriate for a new-school IPA like this. Floral notes and tangerine juiciness provide some tongue cleansing acidity, especially on the finish. Bitterness is medium.

M-The body is moderate in heft and the beer leaves a slightly sticky, resinous coating on my palate. Carbonation is soft.

O-A nice flagship from Westbound and Down. Nothing mind blowing, but this IPA drinks well and pairs nicely with the food on offer there.

First, one of the cooler places to grab a beer. Currently I am staring at a waterfall with garage doors open, breeze blowing on a sunny 68 degree day (could affect my score...)

To the beer.
L- Bright gold which I love but very little head retention and lacing.
S- great nose of citrus and tropical fruit. A hint of pine toward the back with moderate but very enjoyable bitterness.
F- well carbonated, which gives it a prickly feel with the bitterness.good stuff!
O- one of the better pale ales in the state. Fans of Citra will probably love this beer, as it really shines here. Well done!

this one sort of rides the line between ipa and pale ale, its really hop driven, still tries to be balanced, but overall is definitely not one of their best beers, its the belgian and wild ones that have impressed me most so far, not the hoppy stuff! it has a clear brassy look from the tap, not much head, but the bar was busy and i didnt see how long it sat there waiting for the server to bring it to me, could have dropped off over a few minutes. it smells like pine and a little bit of lemon cleaner, northwestern higher alpha hops, smells like pellets too though, green and vegetal, fresh enough, but also with some minerals or even metallics to it, not my usual cup of tea, but it gives it an almost english vibe, not sure what yeast they use, but thats how it presents itself in the nose. the flavor has a similarly tinny thing happening, not an off flavor necessarily, but not something i love in the style. there is a little malt sweetness too, but its bullied by the bitterness, which sets in early and stays late, piney and citrusy notes to the taste, but its the bitterness that stands out most. medium bodied but a little slow to drink on, and it doesnt warm up great. i had higher hopes for this given the recent awesomeness of the wild beers i have had from these guys, but it ends up being a pretty average high bitterness pale...
