12oz can, sample purchased at store.

Nearly clear golden amber colored brew, decent amount of froth on top. Earthy herbal hop resin in the nose, some spice and citrus pith with some caramel maltiness underneath. Smooth with a bit of crispness in the semi-chewy medium body. Plenty of hop bitterness, citrus rind with mango skin and soft pine on the palate. More than enough maltiness to hold this beer together. A bit fruity, spicy, and warming in the middle. A bitter semi-sweet finish. Different than most, at least it is what it is ... clearly an IPA and a drinkable one at that.

The most balanced east coast IPA on the market between hops malt citrus and alc. Percentage this is the best rounded ipa you will find . not comparable to other beers.....simply delicous. Whoever rated this lower than 4.5 doesmt know what theyre talking about... Sorry not sorry. I wouldnt tell you youll like this. Ecause i like it... If you enjoy ipa's this is the beer for you. ❤

looks a little straw hazy with minimal head. nose is rather floral herbal and grassy to me. taste is some funk with what seems to be floral and mild grapefruit. seems like the great is putting a lot into this brew. finishes with more floral notes. overall not a bad brew but different take on the east coast ipa. more esters and herbal characteristics make this just ok for me.

Draft at a restaurant not too far from the brewery. Very pleasing copper color on the pour. Good amount of carbonation. It paired well with my meal. Seems like a proper amount of carbonation. I could return to this one; not as juicy or tasty as some others I've had recently, but in certain circumstances (like paired with a meal) that can be a plus. Good all around; nothing ground breaking but different enough that it merits a try.

Appearance; Pours hazy and amber colored, the head building to two fingers; a few strands of lacing hang around

Smell: Fruity, but more in Juicy Fruit fashion

Taste: Earthy bitterness (with a hint of aspirin) joins with caramel malt tones; the bitterness builds, through the middle but there is no discernible flavor development

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I like the artwork on the can

A: Pours a golden yellow color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves lots of sticky lacing

S: Citrus, pine, and a bit of honey sweetness along with a bit of crystal malt and mango

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the citrus and mango and goes into a light piney bitterness and honey sweetness. Finishes with on the cleaner side, with some light bitterness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very smooth

O: A solid IPA. Nothing too special, but very drinkable and straight-forward. A "friendly" IPA

This was underwhelming in all facets. With the likes of Aeronaut, Castle Island, Down the Road, etc., there are lots of new breweries putting our great hoppy beers (not to mention the big boys). It's tough, with all the selections on the shelf, for me to give them another try. First impressions in this market are huge. This one failed.

12oz can dated 4/12/17.

Pours hazy gold with a copper hue and a big, porous head. Good retention and lacing. Aromatics are less than hoppy with shades of mineral-laced malt, toasted biscuits, and a hint of pine bark. Medium bodied with slightly chewy mouthfeel. A big bitterness starts the palate with some pithy citrus and dusty malt following through. Finishes bitter, malty, and a bit astringent.

Either this beer has been abused since canning 2 weeks ago or it was never very good. Tasting very stale, bitter, and unhoppy.

Self described by the brewers as "a clean, hoppy start and a tropical fruit finish. Notes of mango, citrus, and honey. Thunderous yet funkadelic."

Look: dirty, hazy, coppery color. Virtually no head.
Smell: Absolutely nothing discernible here. Very much smells like nothing.
Taste: Nothing as described. Nowhere near as hoppy as expected, nor was there any noticeable hints of mango, citrus, or honey. Basically tastes like a bland mix of things, none of which stand out. It's very boring taste-wise.
Feel: Ok here, not great. Smooth finish, not too thick.

Overall: Disappointed in my first choice from the new Lynn brewers. Very much so underwhelming for their flagship beer. It was like they described the beer before they made it, and didn't care too much that the description isn't really reflective in the final product. If given the chance to choose between Thunder Funk and Sierra Nevada Torpedo, I'd choose Torpedo 10 times out of 10. Will definitely give Bent Water another chance at some point, though, because I'm a big fan of their attempt at redefining the culture of Lynn. I hope their products get better.

Golden color nice lace, lingers nicely down the glass little head
Bitter, spicy and warming. Hints of fusel alcohol.hints of honey dew Mellon
Full bodied and flavored
Slight oxidation
Little to no aroma beer was canned on 9/21.
Fairly easy drinking for a 7.3. Well balanced
Mixed feelings about this. Lots of muddled flavors.
Unremarkable beer. So many different flavors going on make this beer a bit of a train wreck

I picked up a 6 pack at Crosby’s Market in Manchester by the Sea while on vacation. I love a bitter IPA and selected this purely for its psychedelic paper label from a local brewery. I’m not a fan of citrus IPAs so should have read the description on the label mentioning mango and honey. People that like the sweeter tasting IPAs will enjoy this.

from a can into a teku
look; cloudy copper/burnt orange, 1" thick off white head, decent retention, curtain of lacing
smell; all over the place and i like it. vanilla orange, sugar, grapefruit, maybe passion fruit or other tropical sweet fruits, hint of pine
taste; grapefruit rind, grapefruit, sugar, pine, other fruits are there but less so than in the nose, interesting and nicely bitter.
feel; medium light body, especially for 7.2%abv, medium carbonaton, slightly puckery finish
overall; on the one hand, maybe very sweet malt and bitter hops almost too disconnected, but balances out well enough in a mouthfull and drinks well

Was happy to see a higher abv beer coming out of bent water. There other two releases have been decent so I was hopeful for this ipa. Unfortunately I found the beer to be sweeter than I would like and light on the hops.
