This place looks bland from the outside, although it has a nice patio out back, but inside it looks exactly like you're in a Gordon Biersch.

We were seated promptly, our server was quite bubbly and answered our beer questions rather well. Service was a bit slow overall, the food is pretty dang tasty, and the beer was extremely mediocre. We had a hefeweizen that did not taste to style at all but wasn't bad, and a seasonal IPA that had terrible balance (and being from the midwest, I'm used to malty IPAs!).

This is the kind of place I would bring the folks (who don't drink beer), but not one I would return to of my own accord.

A cool little pub across the way from State, what's not to like?

-some- of their beers are decent. Their Citra ipa is very good. A lot of their stuff is a bit misguided in my opinion. The honey pot blonde is damn near identical to their ipa. Their brown is ok. They often have good craft beer on tap. I'll gladly drink pints of their Citra back to back, but there isn't a whole lot else to blow you away. Their beer used to be unfiltered and it looked absolutely terrible: they've since fixed that problem. Their beers taste the same but don't look like rotten grapefruit juice now, thankfully.

The staff is friendly, except for one pretty sour server that shall remain nameless.

The food is good. Decent patio area, inside is cool. Overall it's a decent place that could use a bit more innovation in the brewing department, but as is they're average - above average.
