This is located in a renovated grocery store in the Maplewood township, about 10 - 15 west of downtown. This place is much different from the Tap Room in many respects. It is usually more crowded, has different food (I prefer the food here), has different beers on tap (check out http://stlhops.com/beer-lists/ for what's on tap), and has an overall different feel to it.

Most importantly, there is always something on tap that I haven't tried before, or have tried and love coming back to. They always have seasonals, brewery-only releases, and their flagships on tap. Secondly, making a decision from the food menu is always difficult for me as there are many things I want to eat there. Plus, the focus on locally grown produce and ingredients (they even grow stuff in the garden attached to the building) is one of my favorite things about this place.

When visiting St Louis, it would depend on where you are, but I would suggest coming here over the Tap Room. Better food, livelier crowd, and usually good music on the weekends.

Huge building with a bar rail and ample seating inside, and a large covered patio outside. Had 15 Schafly taps and also some cans. The choices were mainly the mainstay beers with 5 seasonals. No barrel aged choices. Kind of a cool place to have a Schafer beer and possibly some food.

Tucked alongside the Maplewood neighborhood for St. Louis, which is renowned for its beer, and right along Manchester Avenue (Route 66) - this is one difficult to miss. Just outside the front door is a massive covered patio. The main building's large exterior structure presents patrons with a view of the brewery and gift shop immediately upon entry. From here, it spiderwebs out, with a bar area off to the left with a stage for live music, a larger seating area for dinner and quiet conversations and a classroom/theater in the back right. The center vein is the gift shop, which features both distributed and nondistributed Schlfaly and Ibex Cellar beers. Space is well appointed feeling cozy despite its sprawling size and nature. Tap selection is heavily focused on Schlafly's flagship beers; however, some Ibex Cellar beers and limited stuff is available via bottles. Staff was fast and friendly upon our visit on a busy night, but they were busy enough to not indulge in conversation or chatter - serving up drinks to keep everyone's night flowing.

it was fun to finally make it in here after driving by what seems like a hundred times over the years. its a huge spot, apparently where they are doing most of their production and packaging now, but they have done a good job making it feel welcoming and modest, as big as it is. they have what appears to be an epic patio area with space for events and live music and such, but it was all closed up for the season, looks like it just blasts off in the summer. inside is a typical bar room feel, some wooden adornments, a little dated feeling, a cool looking draft system, and a full pub menu. before that though in the sort of foyer area is a view to some of the brewing equipment, which looks substantial, and a nicely laid out shop area, featuring tons of clothing and beer to go, inviting overall, low key, more or less what you want in a brewery taproom. we all good some food, and none of us were overly stoked on it, none of it bad, but it just seemed uninspired and just not that good from a quality standpoint, filled us up, was fine, nothing special. fortunately though, the beer was awesome. these guys always do a good job, but i was again impressed with their pumpkin ale, and enjoyed a sour i hadnt seen before either called local oak that was solid. the selection was a nice mix of the classics and some newer ones, and the service was also very good. i think to really get the full experience here you would want to come when the patio is rocking, but we had a good time in here anyway. these guys are iconic in saint louis, and its always good to check in and stay current with their beers. worth a visit for sure, but i prefer the ambiance of their downtown spot, and i remember the food being better there. ill hit the patio next time though!

Massive beer complex … restaurant, bar, gift shop, music, and the weekend I was there a big pig roast in the parking lot with beer tents and fire pits. Great place in a great beer town.

Visited on a Saturday after the lunch rush, chose the restaurant side. Service was great, there's a wide tap selection, and the food was good and plenty. Outside the front door smelled like the sewer grate nearby was about to erupt. Will return anyway.

Clean, bright, and vaguely industrio-rustic. You can smell the operations there, which isn't terrible but it's not good either. Schlafly makes good beer, and they seem to keep at least a dozen available here. They have a generous flight, a great way to try something(s) from the largely seasonal offerings. As for food, I've had their biscuits and gravy and burger, and both were very solid.

The place is solid, with a great selection of beers, and a solid menu that delivers. I had a very tasty BBQ chicken pizza, and the sampler was full of tasty beers. I'd return, for sure, the next time I'm in St. Louis.

Visited on a Monday around lunch time. Not too crowded. It was a beautiful day so the insider part of the restaurant where I sat was mostly deserted.

V – This place is a big open bright place that is more German beer hall than craft beer hideaway. Lots of tables. Probably a great place to bring a big party, but not the type of place a rate highly or consider as a place where I go to have an introspective geeky beer discussion. 3.75

Q – The Schlafly brewery is on the other side of the wall - can’t get any fresher than that. 4.5

Ser – It was slow, but I received quick attention from the server as well as the manager later on after my meal. I ordered a beer with experimental hops and I liked being given the opportunity to write down my impressions for the brewers. 4.25

Sel – Just Schlafly beers. No guest taps. Disappointed that there was not an opportunity to drink some of their more unique beers that are only sold in a large bottle format. 4

Food – The rainbow trout was good, but the boiled and then deep fried potatoes that came with it stole the show. 4

This location has a decent dining area, with a merchandise area that includes all the brewery smells. The beer selction was ample, with about 12-16 varieties on tap and a vibrant, if limited, food selection.

Excellent selection of beers, though flights were limited and one was hard-pressed to obtain samples of anything not already included in the fixed-selection flights of six in the restaurant and four at the end of the tour. Still, they had an excellent Scotch Ale available on tap that is not available in bottles and was not offered at the Tap Room (at least not at the time this review was written). The tap list for both the Bottleworks and the Taproom is available online at Schlalfy.com, and I would recommend checking out the selections there before venturing to either location. The food was good, though not traditional pub fare. For instance, bison was a common fixture on the menu (i.e., spaghetti with bison meatballs) though I ultimately opted for a turkey burger with a brie spread and cranberry chutney (which was AMAZING, by the way). We sat on the patio and there were a large number of families with small children; particularly impactful on our experience was the table of small children sitting directly behind us who continued to shriek and wander around our table throughout the entirety of our stay. Perhaps this would not have been the case if we had sat indoors by the bar, but we wanted to enjoy the nice weather and thus it detracted from our experience somewhat. Nonetheless, highly recommended.
