A 330ml bottle from Sainsburys in Pontypridd, Wales. Pours a clear dark amber colour with one finger of off white head. It has a cherry aroma. Taste is mainly dried dark fruits. Light body with low carbonation. Amazing lacing. Smooth finish. A very nice beer.

L- Dark Brown Cola like color.

S- Caramel, Brown sugar, fig, raisin

T- Fruity with a hint of caramel, Pleasant carbonation. No hints of ABV. Goes great with a nice burger

F- Smooth and surprisingly light feel

O- My go to 'everyday' dubbel. Haven't found another that beats this at it's reasonable price point

An 11.2 ounce Euro bottle poured into a shaker pint glass. Good looking bottle/label!

Appearance - A beautiful copper/ruby red color. Big root-beer-float head. Great clarity. Great stickage. A very handsome beer!

Smell - Big malt nose. Sweet. Toasty. A whiff of Belian sour. No hop smell to speak of.

Taste - Big malt-forward flavor. Sweet. Toasty. Black licorice. A bit of Belian sour taste. The hops are in the background (way back there).

Mouth - Substantial.

Overall - I like this beer. I realize that this is probably a commercialized version of a real Belgian Abbey ale but I don't care (I'm also a sucker for Leffe Brown). My only knock on this beer is that it has a bit of a metallic taste to it. Other than that, she's very chugable!

Off-putting aroma and sour finish ruin a solid and refreshing mouthfeel.

My first experience with Grimbergen was on draft at Arielle's Country Inn in Sellersville PA. It was listed on menu as "Dubbel". Although there are two listings at Beer Advocate as well as other websites for "Dubbel" and "Double-Ambree" or "Cuvee Ambree", this tasted identical to the draft so I suspect there is only one dubbel produced by the brewery. Nonetheless, it is an outstanding Belgian dubbel with perfect balance of flavors from the hops malt and yeast. If you like caramel forward beers like I do, this one is for you. Not overly sweet or bitterness from hops or roasted malt, but an overall balanced flavor with a dark fruit finish.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of June 2014. Acquired a while back from a supermarket. The ownership of the 'Grimbergen' brand has become complicated but this bottle was brewed in France, presumably by the Carlsberg group.

Poured into a tulip glass. A clear reddish-brown hue that appears almost black in the glass. Medium carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy beige foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a thin surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of sweet, fruity malt with hints of dried fruit, caramel, brown sugar, toasted grain, mild yeast esters, faint roasty notes and a touch of alcohol in the background. A shade too sweet.

Tastes of sweet, fruity malt with a sugary character and a mild finish. Notes of caramel, brown sugar, dried fruit, toasted grain, subtle yeast esters and faint stewed leaves. Pretty sweet, followed by a lingering maltiness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and a rather insubstantial body for the style. Aftertaste of sweet, fruity malt and faint yeast.

Meh - uninspired. A pity, as I've enjoyed Grimbergen beers in the past (those brewed in Belgium at any rate). Looks alright, though the head disappears rapidly. The aroma and flavour are both dominated by excessively sweet, fruity malt that borders on syrupy. Minimal development of the yeast character. Body is thin and insipid. A rather poor showing, but when a brand is commercialised quality goes out the window. No need to seek this one out.

L: gives a deep dark copper color, a small top of head that disolves rapidly leaving just some white islands in the glass.some lacing on the glass.

S: caramel, malt, toffee, candied sugar, dark dried fruits like raisins and plum.

T&F: much like the nose in the flavour. Dark and dried fruits in the start with caramel malts in the background, in the middle it tend to get more sugary flavour and it finishes of with bitterness, a decent sweet aftertaste the minus is I think the flavours tend to get a little watery in the middle and the finish.else the beer is fairly decent balanced

O: a decent and easy drinking dubble, but compared to a lot of others a little bit anonymous in the flavours. Even I probably would not turn this down if I get the chance again

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1 inch head. Smell is dominated by malts. Taste is also very malty, nutty, a bit of molasses flavor as well. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not really the flavor profile I associate with this style, but an enjoyable beer nonetheless.

This one pours a very dark brown, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like plums and other dried dark fruits, caramel, honey, coca-cola, and clove.

This is pretty solid, with a nice malt complexity. There's a lot of dark fruit flavors, raisins and plums mainly, with some sweet caramel-drizzled bready flavors.

This is light to medium bodied, with slightly syrupy feel, and a good level of carbonation.

This is a bit unremarkable for the style, but it's well done and certainly tastes good.
